I'm just about to start adding up the results and I seriously think that's the worst weekend I have ever had. I don't even know if I got any right today, and I'm pretty sure I went 0/4 on Friday too.

Honestly I would rather Quincey over both these clones of one another. Lebda's meant to be quick and be able generate scoring chances while Meech is meant to be skillful and also handy on the offensive end. Quincey is meant to be a defensive defenceman and yet he has more points than Lebda and Meech combined and not to mention he’s far better defensively. Poor decision by Detroit. I guess pre-season doesn't mean much eh guys? Hopefully some people realise this now.

2008-2009 NBA Season Thread (Pistons trade for Allen Iverson)
Aussie_Wing replied to timothy1997's topic in Other Sports
Well great start of the new era. Price is actually playing quite well, too bad he's the only one. Johnson is doing well too for his limited minutes but we sorely lack a big body who can get 10 rebounds a game. Kwame Brown is truly horrible and I want him gone already. -
Lake Erie Monsters (4-5-1) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (4-1-3) @ The Lake Erie Monsters come to town to take on the Griffins for the third time already in this young season. The Griffins have had another long lay off having been inactive for almost a week. In their previous two encounters, and incidentally their first two games of the season, the Griffins claimed 3 of a possible 4 points. Rookie Justin Abdelkader has recently been named the AHL rookie of the month and is 4th in rookie scoring despite having only played 8 games. Ville Leino's 13 points puts him in a tie for 6th in the league. Probable line-up: Leino - Helm - Haydar Mursak - Pare - Abdelkader Ritola - Emmerton - Wilson Gagnon - Oulahen - Downey Ericsson - Jozsa Kindl - Galvin Stafford - Kolosov Howard Larsson Team Leaders: Goals: Abdelkader (7) Assists: Leino (9) Points: Leino (13) Penalty Minutes: Abdelkader, Wilson (17) Notes: • Jimmy Howard has been playing strong of late and will most likely get the start tomorrow. • The Griffins haven't managed a win from their past 3 outings.

Big goal! You've seen a lot of him, does he have what it takes to be a 4th line player in the NHL? I doubt he'll make it with Detroit but does he have a chance elsewhere?
-
Can the Kopecky haters shut up now? He's been excellent tonight.

Mursak has been scratched tonight, a bit disappointed to be honest. But it goes to show how much offensive firepower we have, quite insane. -

Griffins with 2 early goals tonight against Peoria. 1. GR Kindl, (2) (Pare, Ritola), 6:45 (PP) 1. GR McGrath, (1) (Pare, Ericsson), 7:28 (PP) Two of my favourites on the scoreboard early. -
Disagree. But in saying that, it's actually sad that we've got him but are likely to lose him after 1 season. He is an out and out GUN!
-
Filppula lost his assist, knew he would.
-
Kopecky is on fire this period! Keep it up Kopay!
-
To anyone who watched it, how the heck did Filppula get an assist? Is it a phantom assist that'll eventually disappear?

Thanks as usual! Loving these great recaps! Howard's off to a real solid start and he must really want that back-up job in Detroit next season. I can't see us re-signing Conklin if Howard shows improvement and greater consistency this season. So far, so good. Lots of positives to come from this game. -
An oddity with Leino (he's not in the GR lineup tonight)

Yeh 0/3 too, I think I should just forfeit Friday's from now on.

Let's not overreact, I'm sure he's hasn't gone home. -

Well it was a beatdown in the end, Griffins win 5-1! After falling behind after 1 period they sure did turn it on. 2. GR Tardif, (2) (McGrath), 1:47 2. GR Haydar, (4) (Wilson, Helm), 5:19 (PP) 3. GR Helm, (1) (Pyett, Mursak), 5:35 3. GR Wilson, (6) (Haydar, Stafford), 12:14 (PP) 3. GR Pare, (3) (Kolosov, McGrath), 17:09 Very pleased for a few reasons. Helm continues to dominate having now scored 9 points in 8 games. One of my favourite prospects in Jan Mursak got his first point and Sergei Kolosov got an assist and was +2. For a big, raw defenceman he's been quite promising and is now a +3 for the season. And fantastic to see Evan McGrath on the board with 2 assists, I really hope that gets his confidence up. Jimmy Howard saved 28 of 29 shots and was the games 3rd star. Also worth noting Cory Emmerton was a healthy scratch. -
The Flyers have a ridiculous amount of good young talent, adding Shanahan would be a good move for them IMO.

Seems strange. The Griffins had 6 days off and I don't recall him suffering an injury in their previous game. Griffins just scored! Helm! And Mursak has his first point of the season! -

Griffins up 2-1 after 2 periods. Not much to say as far as our prospects, except that Howard has 18 saves on 19 shots and Helm has another assist. Ville Leino is out of the line-up...? -
That's a long piece; normally I stay away from things of such length. I'll have to read it though judging by the above comments.

Is anyone else worried about Nadal's longevity? He has tendinitis in his right knee.... Who is everyone tipping to win the Masters Cup in Shanghai?
-
Semin what a machine, two goals two within about 3 minutes to win the game for the Caps. Good to see Ovechkin back in some form too.
