Ilya Kovalchuk scores 3 goals in the 3rd period tonight..

The other day I tried to make a future line-up of the prospects who are developing nicely and it was awfully hard to fit them into the same team. Some won't make it, some will be traded simply because there isn't room for them all, but IMO when you've got young guys like Hudler and Filppula who can clearly play at the top level you don't trade them away. Surely you trade guys who are a surplas to your needs, Huds and Flip aren't in that category, therefore they shouldn't be traded. You're giving up a fair peice of the future and I for one aren't prepared to let that happen. BTW, still spewin' we got rid of Tomas Fleischmann.

Yes you're right, I guess I just dislike the idea of trading in general. You draft guys, watch them develop, then go ahead and trade them? I understand it's a big part of sports, and you have to give to get, but trading away so many future pieces of this organisation is a negative as far as I'm concerned.

Flip and Huds? No way! I just really hate the idea of trading away so many of our youngsters. Kronwall is about the only one I'd be willing to trade because we have a lot of defensemen coming through the ranks. Obviously Kovalchuk is an incredible player, and there aren’t many more I’d prefer to watch, but he’s appalling defensively, not that it really matters when he can put up the points like he can. It’s just that trading away 2 current up-and-coming NHL’ers, 2 good prospects, and a 1st round pick isn’t worth the return, even if it is Kovalchuk.

Sorry but Hudler goes before Filppula.

    Jakub Kindl

Kindl has 3 points in 9 AHL games, and is a -4. I'm starting to get concerned about the amount of defensive giveaways he's responsible for each night. It's all very well to put up the points but he MUST start looking after the puck in his own end.
  9. Great performance from the Pistons. Positives: + Billups re-signed! Faultless performance from him, 19 points and 11 assists. + Prince with a career high 34 points and tied for career high with 12 rebounds. Now comes the hard part, consistency. + 20 points from the bench and when Johnson's finally healthy, maybe for once we have a bench capable of producing some minutes and points? + Afflalo will be a very good player. Great speed and athleticism. Negatives: - Flip Murray is still a piece of garbage.

Filppula needs a point as he's on a 3 game streak! Cmon Flip!

    What if Hossa Were Available?

Of all the players we would potentially trade, Flip would be the last one to depart.

    What if Hossa Were Available?

NO to any deals that see us giving up Kindl, Filppula, Hudler ect. Too much to be giving away, even if Hossa is one heck of a player.

I managed to see this game today and it was a beauty. First let me say I can’t believe how good Jonathan Toews is; he’s an absolute freak! Jordan Staal might have the runs on the board but I think Toews will end up the best player taken from the 2006 Draft. I really like him and he’s a pleasure to watch. Patrick Kane I also like. His puck handling skills are phenomenal and it’s no wonder he was taken 1st overall. Another great game from him tonight. As for Williams, he played very well. He was robbed by Turco in the second period which as it turns out would’ve given him the hattrick. His first goal was due to a beautiful pass by Lang and his second was clutch but the goalie really should’ve had it.

    NBA 2007-2008 SEASON

Another typical season coming up from the Pistons. Making the playoffs, only to bomb out to the Cavs or Heat due to poor, insipid play from the same select few.

    Future Logjam on Defence

We signed Rafalski to a 5 year deal during the off season, and Lidstrom will probably re-sign for a few more years at the conclusion of this season. We signed Kronwall to a 5 year extension last year, so like it or not he’s here long term. Then there’s Chelios who at his age is a year to year proposition. Lilja is an UFA at seasons end and with the number of defensive prospects in our system I would assume he’ll be released. Lebda is signed for another 2 years. So how do you see our defensive group shaping up in the future? 2008/09: Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Chelios Lebda-Quincey But here’s where it gets tough. As long as he continues to play solid hockey then I see Chelios playing on for at least another season, but it begs the question, can we afford him to continue playing with the amount of defensive prospects we have in our system? 23 year old Jonathon Ericsson is in his second season in the AHL and he’s potentially a physical, point producing defenseman. He may need to spend another season with the Griffins as he’s still relatively new to the position. Kyle Quincey is 22 and played well in the playoffs last season. Come next season he’ll be as NHL ready as he’ll ever be. He needs to play and we risk losing him if he doesn't. Then there’s Derek Meech, 23 years old who looks as though he’ll be a solid and cheap 6th defenseman. And then of course there’s arguably our best prospect Jakub Kindl. He’s in his first pro season and unfortunately I see him staying in the AHL in 08/09 when we would be better served having him up with the Wings as soon as possible. To make things even more complicated we have Brendan Smith, our top pick in the most recent draft. He’s off to a great start to his NCAA career but is probably 2-3 years off playing in Detroit. And finally Logan Pyett, a small offensive minded defenseman who is producing points at will in the WHL. So what’s going to happen? In Quincey and Meech we have two ready to play NHL’ers, and in Ericsson and Kindl we have two youngsters on the verge of making the top level. But with 2 guys signed long term, Lebda for another 2 years, Lidstrom likely to re-sign after this season, where is there room for all of these guys? What do you see happening?

Wow that's some pretty strong stuff. For what it's worth I thought/think Legace is a more than solid keeper, certainly no joke.

Shattered I had to go out and miss the final period. I went out thinking we would lose then I get home and see Filppula scored the game winner with less than a minute remaining! What a champ! I would've gone nuts listening to it live.

Franzen's too good for the 4th line but I guess there's no other alternatives right now. Sounds as though it's been a relatively slow start to this game.
