Let’s not go that far! $6.7 million is still an awful lot whichever way you look at it.
-
Grigorenko, who hasn’t yet played an NHL game, is on the second line while proven youngster Filppula is on the 4th?
-
I’m not really sure what you’re saying. It takes me close to an hour to pick apart your Pirate posts. You’re starting to sound like Latrell Sprewell…
-
Terrible comparison. So because someone might want/need a change of direction in their job once every 10 odd years that’s the same as changing NHL club from season to season? Give me a break. Markov’s been in Detroit for 12 months, there’s a difference between changing jobs because it’s become stale and changing NHL clubs after 12 months because you’re flat out greedy.

What's Boyd the Void up to? Don't you miss him?
-
Agreed. It seems people like booing for the sake of it.
-
The difference is they are getting paid MILLIONS.
-
Well Lleyton was at 1 set all but up a break in the 3rd before rain once again stopped play for the day. He really struggled last night and he’s lucky he’s in the position he’s in. Made far too many errors and was a little bit tentative. I’m just hoping he makes it through.
-
Yeh you’re right. We’ve had plenty of guys take reduced salaries; Zetterberg for example would have to be one of the biggest bargains in the league. But we took a chance on Markov last off-season and gave him a chance to win the Cup. And yet after 1 season that’s it, he’s going to pack up and leave just because he wants a bit more $$$. Players that bounce from one team to another really don’t deserve a whole lot of respect.

I wonder what Draperfan thinks of this move…
-
Ok this is the way I see it. Losing Schneider is not a big deal because we signed Rafalski who is just as good, if anything a little better, for pretty much the same price. We lost Lang who for the most part was a liability out there and half the time this forum was calling for him to be dumped to the 4th line. So letting Lang go was without doubt the correct move, and let the Hawks pay him $4 million. Then there’s Calder who barely played more than 5 minutes per game in the playoffs so it’s hard to even think of him as a “lossâ€Â. The only one I’m disappointing with leaving is Bertuzzi because he gave us something we lacked; physicality. But of course Anaheim paid him more than we were willing to and they certainly took a gamble, but I think he’s worth it. Lost: Schneider Lang Bertuzzi Calder Markov* Gained: Rafalski Cap space A whole lot of losses, but really, none of them are too significant and we’re just cutting the dead wood.
-
Too true!
-
Cya Robert. More dead wood gone!
-
I’m actually shattered.
-
The guy has no loyalty.
-
I can’t believe we wouldn’t sign Bertuzzi to a long term deal. Yes it’s a risk but as someone said above, we need Bertuzzi! And Markov is all but gone too which IMO that’s a fairly big loss.
-
Cya later Matthieu you selfish, selfish man.
-
Too long, too expensive.
-
Lack of imagination! Considering he was touted as a top 5 pick and has had extremely high point totals for a defenseman, I would like to think he would be capable of putting up 50+ points at some stage of his career. Obviously he hasn’t played an NHL game yet and it’s purely guess work, but you would think he has the potential to be a great point producing defenseman.
-
Great call yet again! Mixed results for you Mac, Roddick won but Blake lost again in disappointing fashion. Hewitt and Ivanovic in action tonight!
-
Well that was a thoroughly disappointing last set. Towards the end of the second set Lucie starting making far too many unforced errors and her play in the third set was all over the shop. But she has amazing potential and can out power just about anyone on tour, but she needs to work on her volleying. She gets to many short returns because of her power and she should come into net to finish off the points. I thought she was going to win in straight sets but Jankovic just got everything back into play and made Lucie hit more balls that she normally would. Ana's my last hope now!
-
She has unbelievable power! Play has resumed!

Good post. This quote reflects that:

Well of course it’s all speculation. He was considered a potential top 10 pick until he had a bad first up season in the OHL. He’s proved that he simply struggled to adapt to the game but in the last two seasons he’s really developed. Last season he was runner up in the OHL defenceman of the year voting to Marc Staal, and everyone knows the hype Staal receives. Kindl hasn’t been talked up too much but he’s on track to be the excellent player he was expected to become.

Noooooo! Jankovic just tied the game at 1 set all. This is without doubt the best game of the tournament though. They are two of the cleanest hitters you will find. The only annoying thing is there have been so many other good matches on at the same time today that I can’t watch.
