    10/6 NHL GDT

Agreed, I was really hoping the Wings could somehow get him in a trade. He's got insane speed, good size, and has good hands. I think he'll put up 60 points this season, a good get for the Flyers.

Voracek with the GWG for Philly. Thankyou Jakub.

    Weekend Picks: Week 1

Cool website, great job identifying it, and thanks to those who did the trial run ect. Great work. Just joined.

    Louis-Marc Aubry

Griffins I'm on the fence. I'd like to see him in GR in the sense that I'd be able to watch him play with the game feeds, but I think for his development he'd be better served spending one more year in juniors. He's still very thin, and I think putting him in the AHL now would seem rushed. If he did stay in GR, I could easily see him consistently benched/get minimal minutes and then being sent down to the ECHL. At least in juniors he'd get big minutes where he could dominate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcs9EvAZ6VY Not a great vid, but gives you a brief idea. Like the way he skates up ice at 0:21. I've got no idea why I like this guy as much as I do, but I so hope he makes it.

    Brunnstrom is signed.

I actually liked him wearing #15, shame he changed. Hopefully the change doesn't mean a change of work ethic.

    Brunnstrom is signed.

I was impressed with him in the PS, more so in the early games, but I'm happy to have him signed, especially at that price. But he's got to keep working hard every night, he job is not done. When Mursak returns, whoever is worse out of Emmerton/Brunnstrom/Miller will be waived/traded. He's starting in Detroit, and will only play in GR if Detroit waive him and he clears.

    No-touch icing

After young Edmonton prospect Taylor Fedun suffered a complex fracture off his right leg during an icing play, surely the NHL will soon adopt the no-touch icing rule? I know there is the occasional excitement when Helm races back to avoid the icing call, but to me the NHL has got to follow suit of other leagues throughout the world and adopt this rule. Too many needless, serious injuries for so few marginal exciting plays. Thoughts?

    Fabian Brunnstrom

Brunnstrom's nickname had better be Bonestorm...

    Gustav Nyquist

Can someone explain to me where the freaking heck is Chris Minard????????????????????????? Do we need a PI to go suss it out??

    Gustav Nyquist

Actually, the more I think about it, the more disappointed I get. He flat out produced every single game, how can you send him down??? I get that he's young, I get that he's small, I get that you'd have to waive one of Emmerton/Brunnstrom for him to make it, but he is that good. He is a legitimate scoring talent. I can't see how they can dismiss everything he did in the PS simply because he has options. He is good enough, right now, to help this team and that's all that should matter. The sooner this kid is with this team to help reach his potential, the better.

    Gustav Nyquist

Not even 3 months ago said this about Gus: "I think about half way through the year people are going to be hearing about this guy a lot more". Happened a heck of a lot sooner than that!! I think Gus' play took even the Wings by surprise. I'm sure they expected him to show some talent, but not even they could've seen coming the performances he put forward. As each day passed he must have made their decision a little harder, in the end he's only going to GR because he's got options. Can't wait to see what this kid can develop into.

    Gustav Nyquist

I'm still high on Kindl and have confidence he can become a 2nd pairing defenceman, but I tend to agree. If you've got a kid that can clearly make a positive contribution to the team which Nyquist can, why send him down? He performed so well in the PS and for what, the chance of a call-up at some stage this year? He was dominant most nights he played, and this started a month back at prospects camp and continued right until the final PS game. Disappointing for him that he went out there, did his best, outperformed virtually everyone, and it still wasn't good enough because he's got options.

4 Players Will be Waived on Monday, 8 Assigned to GR

I seriously hope we don't lose Conner or Exelby on waivers, they will be great additions in GR.

    No-touch icing

And the thing is, even if the forward does manage to get to the puck first, I don't think I'm being unrealistic to say that 80% of the time the opposition skates away with the puck anyway. You've negated the icing, but they still more often than not come away with the puck. It's not like you have goals galore created by the player who negates the icing call.

    The NHL injury thread

That is a horrible injury to Taylor Fedun. Could miss the entire season, and it's one of those injuries where the recovery is going to be painfully slow. It actually makes me think Jan got a bit lucky as it could've been worse. Also this: Broken shoulder blade, can anyone say OUCH. So many bad injuries already.
  16. Aussie_Wing

    Fabian Brunnstrom

Yeah, he's probably going to start as a reserve forward, and it'll up entirelly up to him whether he sticks around when Mursak returns. He's got to hustle every night and not take any nights off, look at Cleary and Eaves when they first arrived, they haven't stopped providing energy since they were signed. Brunnstrom's challenge is to build off a strong PS and play hard every night, if he does we might look elsewhere when it comes to trading/waiving a player, if he doesn't he'll be sent back to GR.

10/1 Exhibition GDT: Red Wings at Toronto Maple Leafs

I agree with everyone else, Ericsson was bad. In fact, he is bad. There's a reason he was a forward, and there's a reason he was drafted last overall. He's just not very good. He's huge, and yet he plays like he's 5'8", he turns the puck over all the time and he provides no offense. We really stuffed up on that contract. Brunnstrom struggled tonight too. Helm was totally awesome. I like Chris Conner.

    Fabian Brunnstrom

Pretty bad night for Fabian tonight. Obviously won't matter as he's earnt enough credits, but hopefully just a one off.

    Expectations for 2011/12?

Have they made decisions in regards to Nestrasil/Aubry/Callahan and Parkes yet? Even Ferraro. There is still a lot of uncertainty about the final roster.

9/30 Exhibition GDT: Toronto Maple Leafs at Red Wings

Great goal by Nyquist and Franzen needs to keep driving to the net, hate it when he stays on the perimetre all the time. That Flip-Hank-Mule line has been sensational in the PS, hopefully it can carry over.

    Red Wing Injury Thread.

Some good news... I guess that's something.
  23. Aussie_Wing

    Gustav Nyquist

Sweet goal. I see him as a 20-40 type guy in the NHL. He's just so skilled. What a steal.

    Ryan Sproul

3 assists for Sproul last night.

Cleary out for rest of preseason, hopes to be ready Oct. 7

Maybe it meant to say 6-8 days... 6-8 weeks to heal, and yet he'll be good by the reg. season start seems weird.
