I said prior to this season that Kindl will surprise everyone with his very solid play and will be a consistent starter after about Game 10.

Teemu Pulkkinen is tearing it up with Helsinki Jokerit
Aussie_Wing replied to Lazerbeam's topic in General
First hand reports of people who have seen him play are saying that his skating has improved, as has his defensve play. Not a great indicator, but he's a +5 through 10 games too. -
On another site, I mentioned having Eaves play on Datsyuk's wing too, and was also torn apart. I'm sticking by it, Eaves still has major untapped offensive potential. Still owns a lethal shot.

My one line reviews of the game. Kronwall sucks. Like seriously sucks. Thank goodness Lidstrom went around one more year. I can see why Janik is an AHL veteran. Franzen will score 40 goals. Filppula looks amazing, is actually shooting. Kindl shows promise. Hudler is exceptionally rusty. Howard had an average one, saved harder ones than he let in. I love Eaves.

Finally we get a game on TV in Australia and... I'm off to work for 10 hours. GO WINGS!

Teemu Pulkkinen is tearing it up with Helsinki Jokerit
Aussie_Wing replied to Lazerbeam's topic in General
Yeah Pulkkinen and Jarnkrok are tearing it up in the early going. Pulkkinen has something like 51 shots in 10 games. I feel we've got two exceptional talents in these kids, and both will prove to be steals. -
I'm loving having Hiller on my fantasy team.n Oh, wait...

Thanks kook! Got the feeling it'll be a big joint effort this year. 10's pretty bad, but there weren't too many high scores this week.
-
Great news! Best coach in the league!
-
Agreed, these would be my expectations too. I love Filppula, such a good all-round hockey player, ultra dependable.

Hilariously bad fight. The start was especially bad!

Grand Rapids Griffins (0-0-0-1) @ Rockford IceHogs (0-1-0-0) 4:05 pm CDT Jan Mursak Preivew: The Griffins travel to the Rockford MetroCentre to take on the Rockford IceHogs in the second game of the season. They lost the chance to claim maximum points in their home opener when Abbotsford tied it up with less than 2 minutes remaining before eventually winning in the SO. MacDonald was the starter and McCollum is expected to see his first game this evening. For the Griffins, Ilari Filppula made an impressive AHL debut with a pair of assists, while rookie Willie Coetzee showed off some impressive speed and hands. Jan Mursak and Cory Emmerton displayed some chemistry on the top line, and the all veteran line of Filppula, Johnson and Minard combined for 4 points. The defensive pairings are unlikely to change for tonight's game, disappointing for Kolosov who needs all the ice-time he can manage this season. Possible line-up: Pare - Emmerton - Mursak Minard - Johnson - Filppula Tatar - Andersson - Coetzee Owens - Raedeke - Tardif Janik - Smith Lashoff - Meech Amadio - Pyett (Kolosov/Ehrhardt/Piche) McCollum MacDonald Team Leaders: Goals: Smith, Johnson (1) Assists: Filppula (2), Meech, Minard (1) Points: Filppula (2), 4 tied (1) +/-: 4 tied (+1) PIM's: Amadio (5), Meech (4) Game Centre: Game Centre Radio Link

10/10 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins @ Rockford IceHogs
Aussie_Wing replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
Griffins lost 5-4 in regulation. At least some of our prospects had bright games: Mursak: G+A Smith: 2A Tatar: 2A Emmerton: G I'm glad Kolosov played, but at the expense of Lashoff? Geez Fraser, c'mon... -
So, so, so excited about this kid!!!

Abbotsford Heat (0-0-0-0) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (0-0-0-0) 7:00 pm EDT Preivew: The Griffins kick off their, and the 2010/11 AHL season, when they host the Abbotsford Heat at Van Andel Arena. The Heat placed third in the North Division last season, the Griffins finished last but will be looking for a much stronger season. They will be boosted by the return of veteran goaltender Joey MacDonald who will get the opening night start. The Griffins have a virtually new-look outfit this season, proven AHL point producers Chris Minard and Chris Minard will be asked to shoulder a lot of the offensive duties. Rookie forwards Joakim Andersson and Willie Coetzee will be hoping for successful starts to their AHL careers. The wildcard could be Ilari Filppula, brother of Flip, who could is a slick playmaker who should assist the Griffin youngsters. There are also exciting new arrivals on the blueline, led by rookie sensation Brendan Smith. Brian Lashoff is also a permanent member after having a few brief impressive stints in past seasons. Greg Amadio is also a newcomer, and Derek Meech will bolster the blueline. Just take a glance at the possible line-up below, is that line-up stacked or what?! Go Griffins! Possible line-up: Johnson - Filppula - Minard Owens - Emmerton - Mursak Tatar - Andersson - Tardif Coetzee - Raedeke - Pare (Maltby likely to be recalled by DRW) Janik - Smith Meech - Lashoff Pyett - Amadio (Kolosov/Ehrhardt/Piche) MacDonald McCollum Game Centre: Game Centre Radio Link

Thanks mate, unfortunately for some reason, can't listen to WXYT these days. Yeah mate I think this season I will. I could manage listening to WXYT, but now that I can't even listen to that, must be a blackout for intl listeners, I think I have no choice. We doubled our internet cap just recently too, so that'll help.

Gotta love being a hockey fan in Australia sometimes. Can no longer listen to WXYT and can't find a stream.

Derek Meech stinking it up in GR...

10/8 GDT: Abbotsford Heat @ Grand Rapids Griffins
Aussie_Wing replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
From what I can see, the forward lines are: Johnson - Filppula - Minard Pare - Emmerton - Mursak Tatar - Andersson - Coetzee Owens - Raedeke - Tardif Griffins clinging to a 2-1 lead with about 8 minutes left. Good first period, lackluster after. Very impressed with Coetzee, he's quick, he's aggressive, good signs in his pro debut. -
Pretty nice rush by Flip after the good block.
-
It seriously is. Hudler-Modano-Cleary on the 3rd line. Geez!
-
Too much passing. Looks like a permanent PP.

Griffins retake the lead on a PP goal, 2-1. Filppula is very, very impressive. -
