Sure as heck got a better chance than Modano does.
-
He'll be traded before opening night! We're not going to carry 15 forwards. And yes, he would be claimed off waivers. Young, hard working skillful forward, on a dirt cheap THREE year contract. Laughable that you'd want one year of Modano over say, 5+ years of Ritola. He's hardly an unknown btw, we did sign him for 3 years, obviously rate him. Taking that known commodity in Chelios over Quincey worked a treat didn't it.
-
And how does he go about proving if he's NHL quality unless he gets a shot? Modano 1 year, vs countless years of Eaves/Ritola? I struggle to see how that's great management, especially considering this one year of Modano won't even be anything remotely special.
-
Agree mate. People who want Modano must feel that way because of his name. He isn't producing anywhere near as much as he used to, he's 40, he's got maybe a year left in him, and yet for that amazing package they'd want to see Eaves and Ritola leave. They are 26 and 23 respectively and could be solid Red Wings for many years to come.
-
Yeah awesome, lets sign a 40 year old and dispose of potentially many years service of Eaves and Ritola.
-
Tell me this is a bad dream. Mike washed up Modano? Are they serious???
-
Nice and cheap, which is always good, but this better not be at the expense of Eaves and Ritola. And why we're even contemplating Modano is absolutely beyond me. Ritola isn't all about points. He's great at puck possession, is strong defensively, he does hit (is way more physical than people give him credit for) and he's got a great work ethic. I'd be shattered to lose Ritz on waivers, because it'll be devestating to see someone who has work so hard to make the Wings roster only to end up elsewhere because we're obsessed with washed up players like Modano who are good for 12 months max. Big picture Holland, big picture.

If he plays to his potential he is. However if he plays like he did for the second half of 2009/10, then no. ALl things considered, I'm happy with the deal.
-
That "I think he has some hockey left in him." quote is very old. Let's not go jumping the gun.
-
Did George just read my post? My link I had it about right anyway! I am good aren't I?
-
So I'm guessing his amazing potential wasn't qutie so amazing afterall?

With Tardif likely to return, we're slowly starting to get a picture. Rissmiller (?) - Filppula - Mursak Tatar - Emmerton - Pare Tardif - Andersson - Coetzee Owens - Raedeke - Vigilante Not sure about Rissmiller, Owens and Vigilante, the rest are certainties. Doesn't look like Williams will be back, a bit of a shame, we could do with his shot. Armstrong and Owens might be around. We're looking a bit better now but we still need 1 or 2 veteran signings.

Nyquist has already spent two years in the NCAA. I'd say one more then straight to Detroit, he's that skilled that I think he could skip the AHL.

Red Wings make qualifying offers to nine players

Good for Grand Rapids, he finished last season really well. Pumped to see Kolosov get another contract. -
Is it over yet?
-
Oh man, Cheechoo is HORRIBLE. Do not get near him.
-
No love for Joakim Andersson?

I'm stoked about this pick, I really am. He's got so much potential, all he needs to go is to get stronger which will allow his game to really take off. And listening to his intereview, sounds like he has a great attitude.
-
I wasn't so crash hot on the pick when I first heard it. That is often the case on draft day as you've got your hopes set on picking someone else for whatever reason. At the end of the day the vast majority of these kids are at least 2-3 years, maybe even longer, away from ever hitting the NHL or making any meaningful contribution. You've just got to back your talent scouts to see something in the player they selected. This is what Ken Holland had to say about Sheahan: The thing is, everything about his game is pretty much sound. He's a great skater, he's tremendous defensively, he can play PP and PK, he's got good size, so taking all this into consideration you'd imagine at the very least he'd develop into a 3rd/4th liner. However he does have offensive potential, it just didn't quite surface last season but he showed it in juniors and he has fine playmaking skills and can finish. As Holland said, should the offence come around he'll develop into a beauty.

I smile when I think about Nyquist. 121st overall was it? What an absolute joke! In a good way of course! I believe he is our top prospect, just so much upside.
-
I'm excited about his size, and seemingly his willigness to use his size to hit, but the lack of offence is a pretty decent concern. It could come this season as he grows into his body, but I'm going to reserve judgment on this one for a while.

Is this me posting? I’m not joking, that’s exactly what happened with me. The refreshing to see Pittsburgh had made their pick and Teemu was left, the gigantic fist pumps when I saw we drafted him, it's all what happened to me.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/6131 Sounds like a very, very decent get with a 6th rounder. Good speed, obviously some playmaking abilities, can't see much wrong with it.
-
Yeah I'm okay with the pick now, we do need more depth in goal, Grand Rapids will need a starting goalie in a few years. Why is the draft dead again? I think the selection of Pulkkinen really shook up the draft, they're struggling to come to terms with what it could mean. Edit: All good, tracker working again. I hope we go for a defenceman with the next pick, either that or another skilled European.

LOL! So he's listed at 5'10, 5'11 and 6'0. Interesting.
