Who's Ready For Tons of Outdoor Hockey? (Winter Festival and Class
rossco replied to drumnj's topic in General
Will be over from Scotland on the 26th for all the games at Comerica and the WC before catching games in Toledo and the Griffins out at Rockford on my way home. Was all set for last year with flights etc booked so had to alter my plans to become an OHL/AHL road trip. -
I'm over from Scotland for a number of games and will be in town also at that time. On the 7th I'm going to watch the College practice sessions down at Ford Field (open to public) before heading over to Cobo Joe's on the way to the game. I'll probably have lunch down at Cheli's place across from Comerica before I go to the Frozen Four semifinal games on the 8th. Give me a shout if you want to hook up.

I understand they are showing the Hawks/Panthers game from 6pm around the arena which opens at that time. I plan to catch some of that whilst eating. It's been a blast so far with the 2 exhibition games, great city as well.

Doesn't sound like there will be much of a party but I'll be there, going ovr on Tuesday to catch the Blues and Wings games against the club sides before heading to Stockholm for the NHL openers. I think the protocol is to meet behind the Wings bench for warm ups ... just shout if you wanna catch up

Wings to Open 09-10 season in Stockholm, Sweden

The earlier talk about an exhibition game in Sweden before the season openers appears to be further advanced. The game is against FBK Färjestad to be played in Karlstad on 30th September. The only problem would appear to be the home clubs possible involvement in Champions League hockey which it has recently qualified for. It means moving dates around which they are talking to the IIHL about but they want this to happen. Here are a couple of articles http://www.nwt.se/sport/folj_fbk/article501551.ece http://vf.se/Sport/Varmland/Farjestad-mot-...ngs-090321.aspx Just sounds as though official confirmation is all that is required. I'm holding off on making my trip arrangements until this get's confirmed (either way) as it would be a blast to see a match up against a non NHL team, even though it will be highly uncompetitive and probably close to be a reccy game -
Many thanks, you'd think I could work this stuff out myself by now ... lol

anyone got a feed for this ?
-
Yup got me tickets for both games too ... the wait time thing was weird but the system appeared to work better than some other Ticketmaster sites as it actually allocated me the next best ticket without the usual "no seats available" - that saved a bit of time and I got lower bowl by the face off circle rather than centre ice but hey ho Chance for some LGW'rs to hook up perhaps over the weekend ?

Cool ... that's the first part of my hockey travel for next season sorted then ... just need some favourable scheduling to try to nail some of the 7 remaining NHL arena's that I have to visit -
Guys, I've been lucky enough to make a number of trips over from Scotland to watch the Wings in the last few years, culminating earlier this year when I decided 3 days before Game 4 that I was gonna come over and catch the finals and luckily I got to Games 4 , 5 & 6 When I heard the Winter Classic announcement I kinda knew that would be a focal point for this seasons trip so I've lined up the following; Dec 26th Wings @ Predators Dec 27th Sharks @ Blues Dec 28th Bruins @ Thrashers Dec 29th Sarnia Sting @ Plymouth Whalers OHL Dec 30th Hawks @ Wings Dec 31st London Knights @ Sarnia Sting OHL Jan 1st Wings @ Hawks Winter Classic Jan 2nd Dodge Holiday Classic - University of Minnesota Tournament Jan 3rd Wings @ Wild Obviously I have everything crossed for a ticket for the game at Wrigley but apart from that I'm all set. This is just a shout out other Wing Nuts who may be taking in any of these games and may want to hook up for a chat. In the past I've met up with a number of very cool people. Just give me a holler on pm or e-mail. PS - The other random games, I'm trying to complete the 30 NHL arenas so after this trip just 6 to go Go Wings

I'm 115 row GG .. will be wearing a Zetterberg jersey ... not sure that will help
-
Me too ... it just won't be so loud without you

Yup hockey is not what you'd call mainstream here .. I get my fix from a satellite channel that is dedicated to North American sports...sure I know Runrig..I listen to a lot of their stuff .... I live just 8 miles south of Edinburgh and I guess it's payback time at the moment for all those past trips where the exchange rate favoured visitors to the US. I'll try and post some stuff about my trip as I go....when I get the time.
-
All set know , Christmas with the family and then I set off early morning of the 26th. Any fellow Wingnuts going to be at any of the games then shout out if you want to meet up before/during/after the games. Merry Christmas to all. :xmas:

I'll be there, assuming my flights from the UK are on time ...I'm scheduled to land in Honky Tonk Town a little under 2 hours before game time
-

Section 528 row 2 See you there Zetterberg_40 ... my trip has finally come together so bring on 26th Dec Wings @ Preds 27th Dec Sharks @ Blues 28th Dec Bruins @ Thrashers 29th Dec Sarnia Sting @ Whalers 30th Dec Hawks at the Joe 31st Dec London Knights @ Sarnia 1st Jan Winter Classic 2nd Jan Dodge Winter Classic at University of Minnesota 3rd Jan Wings @ Wild
-
Congratulations, that makes me feel a whole lot better .... let me know if your buddy can't make it and you don't mind a Scotsman sitting next to you ...lol
-
Anyone know anyone who was in the public lottery for a ticket and been advised they were successful ... what about the Wings STH draw has that concluded yet ? I'm waiting from both sources with everything crossed
-
Wasn't impressed already with the way this event has been handled as I have a 10 day hockey trip over from Scotland already booked around the game at Wrigley and had been hoping for an earlier announcement but it gets even better when I read the rules for the ballot and I quote ELIGIBILITY: The Drawing is open to all legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia......" Didn't even get to first base!! Add this one to not being able to purchase Stanley Cup finals tickets from the Pens last year as I was an "out of town" fan, ok I'm a Wings fan but could easily have been a Pens fan. I could just about understand the logic in that case but it's beyond me how this is consistent with marketing the NHL outside of North America ....hell yeah fleece the fans when you bring teams over here but let's keep the outside world outta our backyard. What about the near neighbours across the Detroit river....it beggars belief Boo sucks and I await my reply from Gary...if only I could get someone to call him tomorrow on his call in show on XM radio Maybe I'll go the Rooftops option and watch where there is food and somewhere warm to take a leak....alternative is to cave in as I did for the SC Finals to someone on a get rich quick mission

Well I gotta fly to get over the Atlantic buddy - I fly internally in the UK on Dec 26th , then over to Chicago and then fly down to Nashville where I land 2 hours before game time and by the time the game is over I'll have been on the road for 26 hours.... next day I drive to St Loo and then drive to Atlanta. I fly to Detroit from Atlanta and then drive until I go over to Chicago and fly again to Minneapolis....I fly back through Chicago to Frankfurt (Germany) before getting back to the UK ...so not sure what you'd call it apart from exhausting
