ESPN takes shots at Detroit sports teams
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 replied to hillbillywingsfan's topic in General
This guy is a retard. If he had any knowledge whatsoever regarding the NHL he would realize that the Wings have possibly the best cap situation of all the 'contenders,' almost ensuring that won't go anywhere for the next 5 years. -
At this point in Ozzie's career he is absolutely not a a goalie that is meant to play over 55 games. If he was going to play 70 games, I don't think there would be any question of whether or not to bring Howard in. But 30 games is over a third of the regular season, and a big task. I'm not saying he's not ready, I'm just saying that this is no easy job. In terms of Ozzie, I think he'll have anothere regular year, solid as a rock without doing anything flashy, possibly an all-star. He's always been a goalie that will be defined by his playoff play, not regular season.

Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Incredibly close, but I have to say Nick. He has all the individual hardware, as well as the 4 cups. He's shown he can win the cup as a captain. I have all the love in the world for Stevie, but Nick is absolutely phenomenal. -
I don't see room for a big splash in the free agent market this summer, the guys we have might not be the biggest names, but obviously they get the job done. I think the wings should just try to focus on locking up Flip, Hank, and Mule, and maybe landing a veteran grinder for the fourth line.

Drew Sharp is a moron.... Then again Colorado did retire Ray Borque's 77....

I'm just not sure how long Cheli can go before his body starts to break down and he suffers a serious injury. I love the guy, but I just can't see how there is possibly any gas left in the tank. Mac looked bad in the post-season, but I'm still optimistic that playing a complete season with the wings will help him step his game up. Assuimng he signs for minimum, he could be a valuable asset if guys go down with injuries in the playoffs.

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Lids, yes. Ozzie - Only if he breaks Sawchucks red wings wins record. -
Games are very rarely decided by officials, and I can confidently say that did not occur in this series. Sure the calls might have been a bit tilted in this series, but never did it prevent the wings from being able to win a game. The wings got away with a lot, as did the pens. That call on Datsyuk at the end of the game wasn't going to be made in that situation, and that's just playoff hockey. The bottom line is that officials were not a significant factor in this series, and we as wings fan should be more focused on our team's cup win than anything else.

Assuming Larsson doesn't steal the show at camp, I think Howard is ready to play 25 games in the NHL. Only time will tell, and should he play poorly, the wings will leave the cap room to aquire a veteran for the playoffs.

I think Liljia will be gone because A. We have so many solid young defenseman chomping at the bit to get a roster spot and B. It seems like every year after a team wins a stanley cup, some GM will greatly overpay one of their role players.
-
Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Franzen - Flip - Sammy Cleary - Draper - Hudler Maltby - Helm - Macarty Leino/Kopecky Forwards seem pretty clear cut, assuming no major free agents are signed, defense however, is more of a toss up. Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Lebda Ericsson - Chelios Defense is hard to call, because I can see the six guys above, as well as Liljia, Stuart, Meech, and Quincey all being part of the lineup. I don't think Stuart will come back, and I have a hunch that Kenny will want to keep Cheli around. I say Ericsson gets thes spot, and Meech and Quincey each get chances during the year to prove themselves.

Official: Hasek announces retirement
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I'm glad to see Dom cap his great career with a cup. I remember watching NHL.com's tribute video for his retirement back in 02 -
Amazing story, IMO Ozzie needs to reach 400 wins to be a surefire hall of famer. It's always harder to make it in when playing on great teams, because players are often overshadowed.

I like McClellan a lot and am said to say that theres a good chance he'll go to San Jose, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they got Quennville. It would never happen, but if McClellan leaves I would LOVE to see Kocur come back.

I agree with everything, except I think that Brodeur will get the Vezina. Nabokov is probably more deserving, but for whatever reason my gut tells me it will go to Marty.

As much as I'd love to support the wings people on here, I have to agree with ThreeRiversFan. Saing the series wasn't close because the Pens wins were in one goal games is just stupid. The wings wins in game 4 and 6 were also 1 goal games, that came down to the wire. This was a close series, and the wings won because they had better team defense. Detroit dominated games 1 and 2, then the Pens came to play and the next 4 games were decided by 1 goal. I'm not trying to take anything away from the wings, because I love them just as much as every other fan, but I don't want to take anything away from our opponents either. The Penguins team we saw in games 3-6 was a better representation of the Pens. They weren't quite as good as us, but they had lots of weapons and were a very good team. I think there is a good chance they'll be in cup contention again next year, it won't be until two years from now that they'll have to give up some big names.

I remember when Tampa won the cup I read an article raving about how their parade drew 20,000.
-
I think they might be on CBC, but I'm not sure. I just vaguely remember something about them in on CBC in the post-cup coverage. It would make sense, considering they're usually hosted by Ron Mclean

sorry wingsownnhl43, but I felt the need to post this.

Wow..... Unbelievable that he was able to make it back. ...I could swear that I remember a certain few users saying that he should man up and play....
-
I don't see him cracking the line up next year. Maybe someone in management sees something in him, because they went out and signed him during the conference finals. But based off what I know, he's still a bit of a project and doubtful to be an NHLer next year.

Holland to offer DMac a contract
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Assuming Kenny and Babs don't plan on Mac being a top 12 forward, I think it's a fine aquisition to get some veteran grit in the lockerroom. I think management understands that developing younger players is a priority. I hate to say it, but I don't think this bodes well for Downey. -
haha first the memorial cup now this. Call me crazy but something tells me the Calder Cup is not safe

gotta love Bettman's judgement :rotflmao:

Liljia lives down the street from my parents, but I'm guessing he'll take it to Sweeden
