I always change the channel to something else during intermissions, so I rarely get to hear Keating .

With the millions and millions of dollars that the NHL teams pay for their players, you would think they would get the most out of their investments by making sure they are as healthy as they can be during the length of their contract. They would be doing a huge disservice to their team's success, their finances and to their fans by not doing all they can to ensure their players can play as many games as they can. But, what makes it so hard is that, despite decades of research, we still don't have a damn idea about how the human brain reacts to injuries, especially concussions. People react and recover from concussions differently from person to person, and there are so many factors into 1) how severe a concussion can be and 2) how they recover; it's not like a broken leg when you know when the bone has regrown and repaired itself (usually 4-6 weeks or so), but with a concussion, you might as well use a dartboard to determine when they will recover, if at all. Obviously, being young (like Crosby) has a chance of returning to his old form after two confirmed concussions (who knows how many he has sustained not only in his NHL career, but his entire hockey playing life), but with Orr, despite being in his 20s, has had (apparently) multiple concussions in a short period of time, and that's going to mess him up not only now, but further down in his life. The money that will go towards his health care later in life would most likely be much, much more than what Orr makes. Everyone would benefit in the long run when the teams better manage with concussed players, and when the player drop that bulls*** "macho" attitude when it comes to their health, especially in regards to concussions. What I posted here would be a good starting point for discussions in the NHL on how to detect concussions during a game.

Between not suspending Demers for punching an official (accidentally or not, you don't do that when officials jump in) and not suspending Chara for his stupid, dangerous hit (again, accidentally or not), I've lost a lot of respect for the NHL's disciplinary "procedures", and I didn't have a lot of it to begin with. Chara's hit wouldn't be that bad if he didn't push Pacioretty and I wouldn't have a problem with just an interference penalty. There should have been at least a 1 game suspension for both incidents and maybe not more than 3. You f*** up, you should pay. Accidental or not, both those players should sit at least a game to punish their stupidity. Bettman and his cronies need to go before the NHL goes from Laughing Stock of the professional sports in NA to somewhat legitimate. Disgusting.

Here's an article on what the NFL is doing in regards to concussions: New Test Helps NFL Teams Detect Concussions And here's the website for the ImPACT test: ImPACT Testing and Computerized Neurocognitive Assement Tools And here's what I said a few weeks ago about how the NHL/the teams can better detect concussions during games.

Tests Confirm Probert had chronic traumatic encephalopathy

There are actually accelerometers that are small enough to fit inside someone's ear, so it wouldn't be too hard to turn it into a hearing aid (to allow the player to hear around him, obviously) to measure the g-forces to the brain, as that's the closest to the brain that you can get without doing surgery. You can fit them to a player that has had a concussion and have it calibrated to alert the trainer if the player has received a preset number of gs, something like 100gs (as that's the threshold of a concussion). If the player's accelerometers registers gs above 100, then the trainer would be notified and would examine the player for any signs and symptoms of a concussion and could have him sit for a shift or for the rest of the game (especially if the gs were really high). These accelerometers might be too expensive for a team to equip all of the players with, but it would work if a team has a player (or players) that has had concussions in the past, so their value to the players would far outweigh their costs, especially as some players command money in the high millions. Fun fact: These accelerometers were developed for IndyCar racing in the US in the 90s in conjunction with Wayne State University to better determine whether a driver suffered a concussion after a crash (which, when you're going at 210+ most of the time, they're going to be big crashes). -
All fighting would do right now would give the knuckle-draggers a reason to cheer, it won't help the Wings at all. f*** this fighting s***, it's not going to give us any goal or any extra points. Drive to the net, grab those rebounds and for f***'s sake DROP MCCRIMMON! Toughness doesn't win games or Cups, defense and skill does. Period.

Fire McCrimmon. 3-0 DAL. Bleh. Throw Yambags on the ice Babcock! At least he can score and play defense!

Wings PK.

Raffy scores, but called off due to GI. If that was any other player in the league other than Homer, that would have remained a goal.
-
2nd on. Some defense, please? Another Wings PP coming up.

Maybe we should do a mass texting on that FSD "Player of the Game" by texting "69 Yambags" and see what happens. Hell, Yambags could probably play better D than the Wings are right now.

Fire McCrimmon. 2-0 DAL. Eriksson managed to get by Kronner and beat Howie. SHG.

Wings PP.

Yambags, no one covered Ribero, nothing there for Howie. 1-0 DAL.

CLEARY x2!!! TIED AGAIN!

Clowe scores on the breakaway. 2-1 SJS. Ericsson...

Eaves stung. Maybe took a shot off the foot/ankle. EDIT: Looks like he got hurt after colliding with a Sharks player. He's in the dressing room now. Looked like Eaves just landed on his left foot wrong.
