I think this was probably done so they have more time to work out a longer term contract without the possible offer sheet interference. Helps both Detroit (no offer sheets to contest) and Flip (wants to be a Red Wing, but paid fairly).

Who cares about anything but the Cup???? I can't stand the bragging that I have been seeing on here lately. We are not the LA Lakers team with Malone, Payton, Shaq, and Kobe are we?? I am expecting this thread very soon...... Could we go undefeated in 08/09?? I'm just happy to be a Red Wings fan.

Good point. A lot of us were disappointed at the trade deadline this year with only getting Stuart, but it sure of hell worked didn't it?!?!

He can still light the lamp when he wants to....just like Yzerman in his later years (not comparing their careers or anything). He'd be a great pickup if Holland signed him, because Holland would not over pay him.
