I live in Philly, and as long as you dont act like an ass at the game no one really bugs you - contrary to popular belief about Philly fans

    Flyers fined 25k

Imagine if Washington lost the game....how much bitching would they have done then? A 14 minute delay for the Capitals is a 14 minute delay for the Flyers as well. People want to ***** about things for the sake of bitching. By the way, I was at the game and the tribute was awesome!

    coyotes fans

I also live in the Philly area and have pretty much been to every Flyers/Wings games since I was little. To tell you the truth I have never really been given a hard time by the Flyers fans, whether it be at my seat, in the concourse, or walking to/from the car. I do see other Wings fans given a hard time, but that tends to happen after the Wings score a goal and they start talking trash. For those that stand up, clap for a goal and then sit down without talking trash don't have problems with the fans. I also have Flyers season tickets so I see all kinds of fans from other teams at the arenas and the only people I give it to are those fans that taunt. On a side note I got the worst heckling at Boston and Long Island and going to a Caps game is fantastic because it is like being at the Joe because there are so many friggin Wings fans there.

    Ohlund Suspended 4 games

Not to defend Ohland, but that's the chance Koivu takes for throwing an elbow at a player. Ohlund should be suspended, but I see why he did what he did.

    Looking for old redwings games

There are website out there devoted to people who trade NHL tapes. You can get some older games and games with pretty good quality. Many people on those sites specialize in specific teams and know there are tons of Red Wings games available. The issue is can you find someone to trade with you if you have nothing to offer in return.

    Revisiting the Lang trade

I was never a big Robert Lang fan, but looking at the deal at the time I don't necessarily think it was a bad deal. He was leading the league in scoring albeit for the Capitals. Lang was not just a rental player either, he stayed with the team for a few seasons. They got more value from him then lets say the Bertuzzi deal. When it comes to prospects you never know what you will get. Fleischmann can become a really strong player, but there are no guarantees. At that time the Wings were primed for another run at the Cup and felt Lang could put them over the top. And if you recall there were alot of people upset that the Wings traded Anders Erickson for Chelios....that deal certainly worked for the Wings. They gave up a prospect for someone they thought could make a difference. In that situation it worked, only time will tell about the Lang deal.

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?

I dont know how many other people are in here from Philly, but I will check in with the Philly perspective (or at least one that isnt full of rage). To call Lindros a bust is ridiculous. When you look at "superstar" players they make others around them do things you never thought they could do. Before playing with Lindros was John Leclair a household name? Maybe for the Canadians fans and people from Vermont.....he gets traded to Philly and boom has a fantastic career playing with Lindros. How about Mikael Renberg? Plays with Lindros and ends up second in Calder voting to Brodeur. Lindros made players around him better. He was a dominant presence on the ice and his lines were very productive. Did he live up too all the hype that surrounded him? Definately not, but that does not make him a bust. When you look at busts you should be discussing players like Pat Falloon, Alexander Daigle, Patrick Stefan. Players drafted high, or highly touted that never really did anything. And for those that dont remember those Flyers teams from the 90s....they had a lot of glaring weaknesses. There were many nights when Lindros carried that team. I do not think he is hall of fame worthy, but he cetainly isnt bust worthy either.

    Hitchcock compliments Wings?

Hitch usually has a dry sense of humor......my interpretation of the comment is this: He was kidding in saying that the Wings are typically so far ahead of the division that they "run and hide." The joke being that they run away from the other teams (i.e. have such a high point total) that they can't be caught and hide (e.g., that when they play their games against the division it doesnt usually mean anything to them say for 2 free points). I really doubt Hitch is implying that the Wings really "run and hide" from Columbus or any other opponents for that matter.

Would we have won the Cup if Yzerman played?

As much as it pains me to say I dont think the Wings would have gone as far as they did with Yzerman. Besides the obvious factors, such as more ice time for guys like Franzen and Filppula, who played crucial roles throughout the playoffs, not having Yzerman (and to a lesser extend Shanny) allowed Zetterberg and Datsyuk to grow. If you looked at the Wings the past few post seasons it was as if the team was waiting for Yzerman to do something great, to carry the team and after '02 Yzerman physically couldnt handle that task any longer. I remember thinking the same thing during the playoffs against Nashville and Calgary back in 2004......the team did not press hard, they sat back and waited for Yzerman to do something and after that eye injury the team looked lost. Same can be said about their series against Edmonton last year. Unfortunately Yzerman is no longer in the picture, but with him out of the picture it was great to see how bright the future can be. If Yzerman continued to hang around I dont know if we would have really ever gotten to see that promising future. I wish it were '97 or '98 and I miss a lot of the players they had back then, but it is really important to focus on all the good this team accomplished this year. I know it has me excited for next season.

Ottawa winning the Cup? A disgrace?

I am by no means an Anaheim fan, and going into the series I really was pulling for Ottawa, but man oh man does that team dive. I wonder if they caught the person that threw the handgrenade onto the ice that caused Emery to flop on the ice during the first period. And how about that Chris Neil dive in the beginning of the game. I think I would rather have a team throwing late hits than one flopping all over the ice winning the cup.

You Be The Captain-Your Words to Team Before We Hit the Ice

In the words of Murray Chadwick, coach of the Hamilton Mustangs, during intermission in the championship game against the Thunder Bay Bombers..... "I didn't drive half way up the arctic circle to get my ass handed to me by a bunch of goons. You're better than them. You know that and I know that. All right, one period (game) left. One period (game) away from winning it all or losing to these miserable hackers with their s***-eating grins and their Saturday night wrestling tactics. One period (game) away from remembering something the rest of your life or something you wanna forget. Now get out there and kick some ass!" GO WINGS

    Camera at the Joe

I am a longtime Red Wing fan who lives outside of Philly. I have Flyers season tickets and go to many games during the course of the year. During the 02-03 year I went out to the Joe for two games and I noticed the strangest thing. Fans stand up and go to the concessions while play is going on. In Philly you cant get back to your seats until a whistle and no one officially prevents you from getting up during game action, but at the Joe people were getting up left and right while play was going on. There was a situation where a 3 on 2 was developing and the person in front of me stood up for a few seconds and then casually walked down the aisle during the play. I kind of yelled at the guy to get out of the way and he looked at me strangely, as if he had no idea what I was complaining about. After returing home from Detroit and watching Wings games a little more closely I really noticed people getting up during the game on a consistent basis. If you tried to do that in Philly things would be thrown at you. But other than that, there isn't a bad seat in the Joe to watch the game.

Let's give Versus a little love here

My gripes with Versus have nothing to do with them covering the sport. It seems like their feed skips every two mintues and the HD channel is rarely in HD. My biggest problem with them is that there is no alternative if a game runs late. For example, the other night they spent time doing Sens/Pens game 5 post game. The Wings were on next and when they fnally went to the game several minutes had past. This is a copy of an email I sent them last year during the playoffs, to which I never received a reply. To Whom It May Concern: I do not typically send emails to complain about the television schedule or lineup. I understand that OLN is new at broadcasting the NHL, which is why I have not complained about the substandard coverage this year. However, I have a major complaint when it comes to the playoffs. Losing the feed for periods of time (as in the last two minutes of the third period between Detroit and Edmonton last night) is unacceptable and inexcusable when it comes to the playoffs. In addition, I am a Detroit Red Wings fan that lives in New Jersey. I purchased NHL Center Ice to watch their games, and have had this service for a number of years so that I do not miss any of their playoff games. I understand that they are not permitted to broadcast games that OLN is carrying and so on and so forth on the Center Ice package (this happened with ESPN as well, but not ESPN2 games), but I am concerned when it comes to playoff games that start at 9:30 or 10:00. On your upcoming schedule you have a double header with Ottawa playing Tampa Bay at 7:00 and Detroit and Edmonton at 9:30 (April 27th). There is no chance that the Ottawa/Lightning game will be completed by 9:30. So what does that mean??? You guessed it, joining the game in progress. That is a sure fire way to bring support to your network by having fans not be able to watch their teams because of the way the lineup is scheduled. I know you want to show many games, and I for one commend your network for acquiring the rights to broadcast games, but you are going to alienate many fans from your network. I am pretty sure you are receiving several emails from Calgary/Anaheim fans that missed an entire first period because your double header ran over. I do not want you to get me wrong, because as a hockey fan I would be furious if you cut out of an overtime game to show the start of another game, but there has to be a way to make this work. What happens if a game that started at 7:30 goes into 4 overtimes and fans of the Western teams have no other way to watch those games. I hope that something can be arranged or a deal can be made with Center Ice in the future to avoid these problems. Thank you for listening to my concerns and your work at addressing these issues.
