I wish Lang would go take a nap, he looks so sleepy out there
-
The Wings PP has been dynomite, now I get why Sammy is in the lineup
-
This is what happens when you play in Canada
-
Scoring during this PP can set the tone for the game. Another early lead is just what the Wings need.
-
Definately not trolling, Im just saying the crowd seems pumped and into the game. There arent many games that sound like that.
-
Truth be told, it is nice to hear a crowd make some noise
-
The fourth line has played well, why mess with it? When you look at the first two games the Lang/Sammy/Calder line has been least effective. I was afraid they would scratch Rex because Sammy is so valuable at the point during the powerplay (for the love of God I hope you can understand the sarcasm). I think Rex would provide more upside playing sparingly than Sammy, but like a trooper my full support will be with Sammy tonight. Go Wings!

Bottom line, Sammy is pretty much useless on the point, just like Williams was. The way I see it, if you are going to put a forward back on the point it needs to be a bonified star, like Fedorov or Yzerman in the past or a player of Kovalchuk's ability (although I dont like Atlanta's PP with him on the point, but that's rant for another time). Throwing a forward on the point who adds little offense and is a huge defensive liability scares me. There were numerous times during game 1 when i was just waiting for the Flames to score shorthanded due to Sammy at the point, and I fear it will happen at some point in time during the playoffs. What does he offer that you can't get out of Ledba?

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?
BobRouse03 replied to Chaldean's topic in General
Growing up in South Jersey, I was a huge Flyers fan when I was little. I used to go to many Flyers games and we usually had tickets in the first row, right against the glass. I remember going to a game against the Red Wings and I got to see Yzerman play. He must have deked about 3 defenders and then made an incredible move against Hextall and scored the goal. There was just something about the way he played and at that moment I became a Red Wings fan, which was during the late 80s. I had this radio that could pick up 760 WJR (which is amazing considering the distance) and used to listen to their games on the radio until I was old enough to get a satellite dish and subscribe to Center Ice. I have been a huge fan ever since. -
i think the slash happened, but you cant have a player continue around the net, throw a pass to the point, have the point man make a move and then call a penalty, mcgough is confused out there

The powerplay just flat out stinks tonight

I know there is alot of talk about wanting the Wings to win the President's Trophy (people seem to forget about Buffalo) and the debate about wanting the number 1 or 4 seed in the West. The way I see it, the Wings may be better off winning the Central, but finishing number 2 overall. I think these seedings would benefit Detroit: (1) Anaheim (2) Detroit (3) Vancouver (4) Nashville (5) Dallas (6) San Jose (7) Minnesota (8) Calgary. That gives you Anaheim/Calgary, Detroit/Minnesota (less travel and earlier start time), Vancouver/San Jose, Nashville/Dallas. I think the Wings match up the best with either Minnesota and Dallas and the way I figure it they could easily play Minnesota in the first round and Dallas in the second (I see San Jose beating Vancouver and playing Anaheim in the second round). Obviously I dont have a crystal ball and there are never any easy matchups in the playoffs, but this is what I see as the best case scenerio for the Wings. Minnesota had been playing good, but are struggling now, lack depth in terms of scoring, have some defensive gaps and as previously stated it is a close matchup in regards to region, which would elimate travel/time change concerns. Im sure if they played them Backstrom or Fernandez would play like Vezina caliber goalies. What REALISTIC first round matchups are people rooting for?
-
I suppose my true question got lost in all of my ramblings, I am more interested in seeing what people are looking at for playoff matchups for the West, not necessarily just the Wings. Hopefully it is a twist on a topic that has been beaten to death

3/24 GDT: St. Louis Blues @ Red Wings, 2:00 PM ET

Jackman runs around hitting Datsyuk and Hudler.....the second he goes after a bigger guy he gets hurt...thats pretty much been his MO his entire career -
5-2 Wings. I am starting Kipper on my fantasy team tonight and it has been a slam dunk that whatever goalie I start loses. I didnt want to start him tonight, but Im taking one for the team!

you can always tell when you're playing a canadian team......just watch the march to the penalty box

Brodeur is simply a product of the system, much like Tom Brady. Neither would be valuable on their own, without their systems. Brodeur has to be the most overrated goaltender in NHL history. I bet if you look up the game stats from his shutouts he probably only faced 15 shots a game. Scott Stevens made Brodeur and their trap system made him a hall of famer. Put Broduer on the Blue Jackets and I seriously doubt his stats look good - by the way I don't believe any of this, I just wanted to be the first jerk to say he is a product of the system Dammit.....too slow
-
this is acutally getting comical now
-
Arnott knocks Erat over, injuries him......Im sure the WIngs will get a penalty out of that
-
I see Atlanta as a team to go out early, that is if they manage to even make the playoffs. They are such a Jeckyl and Hyde team. They could be a bear in the playoffs or a total flop.....Im under the impression they would be a total flop. Then again I thought the Hurricanes would lose in the first round last year so what the hell do I know.

As a Flyers season ticket holder, and big time Red Wings fan I would take a pass on Hatcher unless he was part of a much larger deal like stated before. He has played much better the last month and a half but the fans absolutely hate him. He is boo'ed everytime he touches the puck (I know I know, it doesnt take much to get boo'ed in Philly). He has been more physical of late but makes really bad decisions. During a Penguins game back in January he tried to pinch from the point during a tie game. Malkin and Staal blew right by him, went in on a 2 on 1 and scored the game winner. Under the right circumstances he could be valuable but all in all I would say pass on Hatcher. Hopefully Philly can deal him somewhere else.

Tonight is Keith Primeau retirement night so the start of the game will probably be delayed for a bit.
-
I would rather get Ben Eager instead of the Fridge
-
I will be at the game tomorrow night and I'm wondering what kind of Red Wing crowd will be in attendance. There were a lot of Penguin fans in Philly on Thursday night and a fair amount of Blues fans there on Saturday. The Wings usually have a good deal of fans at road games. Im hoping for a good turn out tomorrow night.

Amazing, getting shutout by the Blues....well congrats Blues on a shutout of the WIngs
