"How Swede it is"?
-
That'd be like drinking everytime someone rips on Ecklund or says that Lang is lazy and he sucks on these forums. By the way, did you know that you can sing "Lang is lazy and he sucks" to the tune of "Camptown Ladies"? As in . . . "Lang is lazy and he sucks, doodah doodah Lang is lazy and he sucks, all the doodah day Going to suck all night Going to suck all day . . ." And to think I just started my first beer . . .
-
You can thank former Wing Paul Coffey's last Norris for that.
-
Hat trick with 4:30 left in the freaking first period. It's apparently "Goaltending and Defense Optional" day for the Bruins. Ovechkin is an awful lot of fun to watch. With players like him, Crosby, Malkin, and our very own Datsyuk and Zetterberg, there's some great young talent in the league these days.

The article says nothing about Nick no longer being a front-runner. His point is simply that Nick was running away with the Norris. If he didn't play for the rest of the season (which would put him out ~20 games total: 1/4 of a season), it would at least open up the possibility of someone else getting it. Seems logical to me. Of course, I don't think he's going to miss more than a few more games. It probably hurts his consideration for the Hart more than the Norris.

Awesome! Thanks for the heads-up. MULE!

Is there a way I can listen to the Wings broadcast online? The last game and this one both links on the NHL Radio page lead to the opposing team's broadcast. Nice getting the Hank story this time and the interview with Stevie last time, but still.
-
Can I vote "neither"?
-
For the remainder of this season we will see what this team is really made of.
-
Yeah, Rob Blake's +/- was only slightly better, but still negative.
-
I'd probably agree with the two that they list. The very name "Federko" causes me to start shuddering. Of course, you could go back to some of the doozies that Jack Adams made because he was a megalomaniac: viz Ted Lindsay to Chicago.
-
You mean that the Wings can't win the Cup if their top four defensemen remain injured? Such insight!
-
You forgot the part where everybody thinks we should be able to get Ovechkin for Hudler and a fifth round draft pick in 2018.

Compared to what the Wings gave away in those two trades, I'll stick by the bag of pucks comment. They gave away all of that and they only thing they had to show for it is a third-line center. As someone else posted, I realize that they were also giving away some headaches too, but I can hardly fathom a way that they could have gotten less in those trades.
-
Yeah, that's one of the "Jack Adams is a bastard" trades. Unfortunately it's one of many (see also Kelly, Red). I know that this is a topic for another thread, but every time I think of Jack Adams, I think the coach of the year trophy needs to be renamed the William "Scotty" Bowman award.
-
The "best" part about that trade is that happened not long after the Federko trade. In two fell swoops Oates, Klima, and Graves were gone for a bag of pucks.
-
Two words: Bernie Federko OK, maybe not the worst EVER, but still the one that annoys me the most.
-
This is true. Pronger is bigger than Lidstrom. 6'6" 213 vs. 6'1" 189.

Remember that this is not the old days. There is still a salary cap. That cap is still tied to league revenues. Any one player can still "only" make a certain percentage of the team's overall cap. The only way that salaries will continue to go higher under the current CBA is if revenues continue to climb. I'm sure that there will be high-pitched whining from "small market" teams who say that they will struggle to hit the salary floor. My response is that they got the cost-certainty that they were looking for. What they didn't cone to grips with is that if your organization is run my morons, it won't matter how much cost-certainty you have. Your team will still suck.
-
Wouldn't there be massive salary cap implications for this though? I know that when Niedermayer came back, they had to dump some people already to handle next year's cap. I'm no capologist but I think they'd have to do some serious juggling to make this deal work. If you get Sundin but remove what depth you have and make next year a living Hell, what's the point? Of course all of this means that Burke might just do it.

Oh, that silly Bob Clarke on that silly Steve Downie
A.T.Hun replied to Wings_Dynasty's topic in General
If this were the NCAA, the term would be "Lack of institutional control." If you want to know why the Flyers have had so many suspensions this season, you need look no further than Clarke. I'm relatively surprised that the NHL powers-what-is haven't called him in for a little chat after those quotes. -
Well, this IS the Leafs' management we're talking about here. Maybe Kenny can throw in something shiny to distract them
-
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." FDR Beyond that, my only concern is the injury bug.
-
That must've been a PITA to get all of this together. Thanks for the hard work!
-
Agreed. I spent the whole game just waiting for the Caps to get about three goals because of lackadaisical play by the Wings. There was that feeling of dread hanging over everything. The Wings were fortunate that only Ovechkin can score consistently for them.
