Per TSN: McLennan suspended 5 games, Lebda out for Game 6

The coach was also fined $25K and the organization was fined $100K. This per NBC's broadcast. *edit* hehe, I guess great minds think alike -
It would not have surprised me in the least to see Washington offer him a max deal in the offseason. If the cap keeps going up the way it has (and I can't imagine that the T.V. deals would actually get worse over time), this could be a good deal by the end of the contract. I share the concern that many had about the playoffs. The proof will be in the pudding. I figured that they'd need to go at least to $6 million per. I wish it would have been closer to that amount. I'll say this, there can be no doubt that Pasha's been our best player since Hank went down. I think the comparison to Yashin is totally unfair. Pavel is not the prima donna and locker room cancer that Yashin is. The comment about 3 years for $4.5 million--I hope you meant per year. If not, I'd like to know what the color of the sky is in your world.

From ESPN NHL rumors http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/features/rumors I'm not going to say that Lewy is the second coming of Bowman or anything, but I don't think the real problems in Beantown have anything to do with him. It starts at the top with Jacobs. It would help if they didn't trade talent away for nothing. Not even Scotty could make something out of that mess. I'm sad when Original Six teams get run into the ground. Yes, I'm looking at you, Mr. Wirtz.

One word: 0wned Way to go, Ozzie!

That first picture of Bert with the Winged Wheel was just jarring to me. He's got one of those heads that makes it look like his helmet is far too small. I remember how bizarre it was to think of Chelios as a Red Wing. There was an article about how Shanahan just laughed the first time he walked into the dressing room. I think I basically feel the same way now that I did then: he's an S.O.B., but he's our S.O.B.

SI.com - Michael Farber - Beating the Red Wings

Nashville probably has the inside track to be the next big Detroit rival, unless Chicago could overcome its current case of cranial-rectal inversion (not holding my breath on that one). It will take a meeting or two in the Western Conference finals to make it a true rivalry. -
From your lips to God's ears--but let's not get carried away just yet No matter what, isn't a little injection of optimism a great thing?

The TSN guys made it sound like it was a combination of both the Wings progressing in the playoffs and some combination of time played/points scored on Bertuzzi's part.

Well, I was one of the people speaking against Bert because of his back and his lack of performance in the playoffs. However, for a prospect (and not one of the biggies) and a conditional pick, it's a lot to gain and very little to lose. I think Kenny should be congratulated for addressing the key issue without mortgaging the future (a la a former Red Wings front office man in Atlanta).

The more things go on, the more I'm inclined to agree with you.

That is absolutely insane. Three picks and a player?!? For a big fat rental? I dread to think what the asking price will be for Guerin. The Blues certainly will be asking for more.

Be careful what you complain about. The Wings and Flyers are both on Versus the exact same number of times: seven. It shouldn't be a surprise that Detroit and Philly are on the most since they are the best T.V. markets for hockey in the U.S. (Note: and by "best" I don't mean "biggest." Obviously New York is a bigger market, but I saw some stats that showed that the T.V. ratings are by far the highest in the Detroit and Philly markets.)

Knuble seems to have gotten the worst of it. He has a broken orbital bone.

That "big season" isn't even that impressive when you figure what happened in the playoffs. Regular season: 82 GP, 97 points, 144 PIM Playoffs: 14 GP, 6 points (2G, 4A), 60 PIM So while he didn't score in the playoffs he made his team shorthanded an average of just over two times per game. He's big, but his back is questionable at best and even when he was at his best he brought very little to the table offensively in the playoffs. I'd like to see the Wings get some more size for the playoffs too, but by "size" I would mean much more than "the ability to displace air."

Who knows what will happen? Cujo is easily the best free agent goalie out there and there are very few teams who need a starting goalie now. Wherever he goes, he's not going to get anywhere near the amount of money he did last year. If Detroit could get him back for a song, Holland would have to be crazy not to consider it at least.
