Wings - So close, yet so far from immortality
Yzermaniac192005 replied to redmathew's topic in General
The 06 Wings? I really would say the 02 Wings were a better team...IMO -
I don't mind versus that much anymore...other then the fact that the rest of the crap they show sucks (IMO). ESPN on the other hand, has sometimes quality sports programming so I really wish they would show it instead. Either way, glad the NHL is on tv nationally somewhere.

Shanny is a different situation. He didn't leave because of money. In fact, I believe he left for less money. He felt his generation of players (Yzerman, Shanahan, McCarty, Larionov, Hull etc) was old news and since the Wings were going in a new direction (Z, Dats) it was time for him to do so as well. He left on good terms and as Wings fans we were sad to see him go but in the end still love him as a player. If it ever comes up as to whether or not we should retire Shanny's number, then I say hell yeah! He was the missing piece in 97 and was outstanding as a Wing. I don't know if the Wings organization feels the same way or not but IMO they should consider retiring his number at the very least. Plus when someone else wears 14 it just doesn't feel right to me. As for Sergei, yes he put up amazing numbers and was a key part of this team. Does he deserve the consideration to have his number retired? Yeah. But do the fans of this city love him enough to where it should be done?...I really don't think so. Numbers don't mean jack if no one loves you as a player. You can't have a retirement ceremony for someone who's going to be booed of the ice for leaving the only team he ever knew for more money. The number that hangs from the rafters isn't just about the numbers they put up on the ice, its also a reflection of the love of the fans and organization. Without that, it's just meaningless and worthless.

If the Wings got Sergei back then the boos would turn to cheers in a heartbeat. Sure you'd still have some haters but if we learned to love Bertuzzi then we can certainly love Sergei again. That being said, does he want to come back? He does get booed here every time. Then again, if I was him, I'd remember that I owe my entire NHL career to Mr. I and his family and want to retire with the team that I started with and had my best years with. Maybe he's matured enough to think that way but who knows. Either way, if he gets traded here cool. If he signs with us next year, cool. If not, cool. It ain't breakin my heart either way.

I completely agree with BeeRYCE, he hit the nail on the head

Shoot its February already?! I knew I slept in late today but wow... Uhh Wings win this one 4-1, no way Dom loses this game.
-
thats great he should win MVP
-
I can see your point - but if we get a cup out of it, is it worth it then?
-
I have to completely agree, I thought he was screened too. He probably should have been down instead of standing up but thats easy for me to say as a fan. That being said though, they didn't play a bad game. I definitely feel they could have played better but I'm sure they're okay with their effort. They lost to a good team and lost a non conference game, so no worries there. But I do agree with everyone who says we need another top 6 forward, we can't rely on Z and Dats in the last 2 minutes to perform miracles every time.

Then we all better wish kenny the best of luck starting now haha

As long as people continue to read his blog - he's going to keep writing. I think I've said this a hundred times on this site, if we all just stop looking at his stupid blog and caring about what he says, he will disappear. So will all the dumb rumors that people sometimes take seriously. I haven't been to Eklund's site in over 4 years and I suggest everyone stop going there as well. All anyone does is bash him yet you all still go back lol

I'm not really feelin the visor on Mac for some reason...

glad our boys pulled off this win today. And again, Ozzie was great (and had a little luck too)

haha

Well I wish they would show it, but still, wowww.

Huh...umm well remember the guy that left for more money? You know, went to Anaheim? Then his skills pretty much disappeared and every time he comes to town we boo him because he was greedy? ringing any bells? On a lighter note though, he was one hell of a player when he was here lol
-
I really think its because all the dead weight...well almost all of it (Sammy), is gone from the team. You have guys who want to win and are out to prove something, rather then guys who just play for the hell of it (Lang). Plus, you know Ozzie playing so well light a fire under these boys and Babcock has to be given credit for keeping them on a roll. Also, with Ozzie playing so well, that causes Dom to play even better to keep a starting job. Last year, Dom knew it was his. You definitely play better when you job is on the line.

I really think this will happen. I'm having flashbacks of Joe Kocur and I really think Mac will play in the NHL again, preferably with Detroit. Many people underestimate the will to play from a guy that ever since he left has pretty much hit rock bottom. He's out to prove people wrong, only 35 years of age, and if he's healthy, he could be a key playoff component. He was a proven playoff performer and always stepped it up a notch. You can't feel what the man is feeling right now - but you gotta believe that with a chance to become a Red Wing again - he is going to give it his all and not stop until he has to. I really believe he will play here once again. In fact, I'll be surprised if he doesn't.

Yeah, the whole icing the puck when there is an empty net has to stay....although, maybe you could throw in a rule saying a goalie can shoot it down and have it not be icing? I don't know about you all but if goalies are takin shots down the ice, I'd love to see that.

I love hockey as much as the next guy. But hockey arena's are just too similar. Baseball I understand if someone wanted to see all of them because almost each one is unique. Football has its own special designs to the buildings as well. But hockey and basketball, you pretty much have to be doing this to say you have or to just see the mannerisms of the fans.

Hahaha. No soup for you!
