Nothing surprises me anymore with Bettman. He's determined to destroy the league's fanbase in favor of that elusive "casual" hockey fan (that, for the most part, barely exists).

We all know he's a liar, so it's nothing new, from the instantly-created He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named-Rule at last year's ASG to his defense of inept league officiating time and time again. If Bettman told me the sky was blue and water was wet, I'd go elsewhere for a second opinion.

I honestly think it was just a case of him needing a change of scenery. For some reason or another, he just didn't thrive in Detroit. He's meshed well in Philly and for that I say good for him.

I actually think the way the Sharks lost in the WCF is more embarrassing and more catastrophic to the team than if they had lost in six or seven games in the first round. Thus far, they're the only team to have been swept in the playoffs and unless there's a sweep in the Finals, it'll stay that way. I really thought they'd put up more of a fight. And I don't necessarily see the sweep of the Sharks as an indictment against the Wings' talent - Chicago is just on a friggin' mission this year. Who would have thought they'd be able to ride Niemi to the Finals? That said, I think it'll be hilarious if Hossa loses in the Finals for a 3rd consecutive season. I don't bear the guy any ill will necessarily, but you have to admit, it's some dark humor there.

But it still doesn't make sense to schedule it on a day when the general public is already occupied watching college students toss around a brown ball, so the whole "getting the general public to watch" thing kind of becomes a moot point. And if he really truly wanted to market it to NEW fans and not CURRENT fans, he wouldn't schedule it on a day when all the potential NEW fans are most likely watching college football. Instead, it just becomes another fanwank for Bettman and the rest of the Crosby slappies.

Yep, corrected myself in a later post on that one. Fine, if Gary doesn't want to showcase Canadian teams, whatever. But the friggin' Rangers? They have a valid gripe. I'd love to see, for instance, a Rangers/Isles Winter Classic. Doesn't matter how much one team or the other sucks, there's just a great rivalry there Enough of shoving the Penguins down our throats. We get it - you love Crosby, Gary. Accept that there are a great many hockey fans who DON'T.
