I must fall under the "very sheltered/true hockey fan" then, because I'm almost 30. I've never paid any attention to college sports at all though, so that's likely why.

Is...is it bad that I have no idea who that Wooden guy is? I'm at least somewhat familiar with all the other names on the list, even if just having heard them at some point in time (except for Shula).
-
Heh heh. And it looks like Zata and Mule wouldn't be under scrutiny for their deals due to the fact they end before the age of 40.
-
Hope they actually did a background check on this guy. Kind of surprised, considering that a while back, it sounded like Balsillie wasn't being opposed by the BoG.
-
This really bums me out. If he never plays again, I really hope the organization gives him a gig like Fisch got.

You can tell how cool I am by the two-monitor setup behind me. (Actually, the monitor to the right has a bad DVI port, so I had to get a new monitor and I'm using the oldie as an extended desktop display once I snag a VGA->DVI adapter from my office... )

Shanny, I'd love to see for sentimental reasons, but that would be it. I doubt he would really fill any kind of void that we have. As for Sundin, hell no.

Actually, my sarcasm went the other way. For those people that claim that Ozzie had it easy his entire career, playing behind skilled, defensive Detroit teams, people could easily say the same thing about Brodeur in Jersey. So if Ozzie had it easy and is not HoF-worthy, logically, the same thing must be said of Marty. On the flip side, if Marty earned his stats playing behind those defensively strong teams Jersey teams, logically, the same must be said of Ozzie. In an odd way, Ozzie has one up on Brodeur - he hasn't been on one team his whole career and in those years he played on the Isles and Blues, he took those teams to the playoffs, despite them not being as defensively skilled/talented/etc. as teams like the Devils or Wings. We'll never get to see how Marty would have performed on another team. Another odd stat? IIRC, Ozzie has never been on a team that missed the playoffs in his NHL career. Even those Isles/Blues teams made the playoffs each season he played for them. Marty has actually missed the playoffs once in his career, in 1995-96, the year after the Devils won their first Cup. Now, I'm not trying to say Ozzie is Marty Brodeur - he's not. But the same arguments that we use for Marty logically have to apply for Ozzie and vice versa. Ozzie's not a first-balloter like Brodeur, Hasek, Belfour, etc., but he's a goaltender who deserves a nod at some point in time.

If Brodeur gets in, so does Ozzie. Brodeur has had an easy go of it playing behind highly skilled defensive teams in New Jersey his entire career, right?
-
Hmm, this might convince me to watch the Isles a bit this coming season. It'll be nice to see someone reliable between the pipes for them.
-
Eh, Chicago will be fine, they've got Kopecky.
-
It's payback for bitching about their road games last season. "Oh, you think LAST season was bad? Watch THIS!"

Over/under on when Lou fires him?

Mine too, oddly enough. Right on the skate where the pin comes out to secure it to the base - the blade portion of Stevie's skate (along with the pin) just totally separated. Only McFarlane figure I've had a problem with. I've got the Isles Ozzie figure too and I'm hoping this isn't just a redeco. It's funny when I think of all the McFarlane figs I have and how many of those players are either no longer Wings or retired - Yzerman (redeco with logo and the aforementioned Cup raising release), Shanny, Hull, Cheli, Lang, Cujo (have him in Leafs gear too, in addition to the one in the boxed set), Hasek. And, of course, Mr. Hockey. Only active roster guys I have left are Hank, Pavel and Lids. And sadly, I still haven't been able to unpack any of them from when I moved into our new house back in December. But if the new Ozzie's a new mold, I'm definitely getting him.

I'm curious about something. All this talk about needing to get rid of Huet's salary (in addition to Campbell)...er, with Khabibulin gone, who ends up between the pipes then? A rookie, I'm gathering? That seems a tad risky, no matter how promising that rookie may be.

Hell of a career, Joe. The game will miss you.
-
Eh, nothing will happen anyway. It's Burke's team. But honestly, this is just as ridiculous as the claims of tampering with Babcock before we signed Hossa. Perhaps a little more substantial (as the "tampering" in question was on a radio station instead of allegedly overheard on the ice), but still ridiculous.
-
That was my initial reaction. Hell, they have to deal with him all season. Sweet.

Penguins want Wild's Mikko Koivu and Cal Clutterbuck for Evgeni Ma

I'd actually like to see this happen, just to laugh at the Pens when they realize how much Malkin means to their team. -
NHL decides to blame Canada Post, claiming Tallon did nothing wrong. That's friggin annoying, because it's clear he DID do something wrong. He didn't send them properly, didn't account for a holiday and got screwed because of it. I hope the NHLPA files a grievance.

I guess we'll find out how fair/consistent the league is, considering that Chicago doesn't benefit from the favouritism that some other teams enjoy. If it happened to Lou and the Devils, it would not at all surprise me if the Hawks get boned over this.
-
The only place I could see Yzerman going might be Ottawa. Failing that, he's staying with the Wings.
-
I feel the same way. As much s*** as I would give Sammy, he was still an integral part of the team, for better or worse. Gonna miss him as he had really begun to shine in my eyes the way Lilja has.

Shaved my head. Save much time on hair-related stuff.
