I'm a big, big fan of Ozzie...but I'm forced to agree. Pulling him in the last game was Babcock sending a message. Making him ride the pine for a bit will also send a message. Ozzie's not stupid, he knows he hasn't been playing well. Work on his conditioning. Work with the goaltending coach. Practice hard. And in the meantime, see what Conks can do to pull us out of this tailspin, starting today against the Caps.

Nope. Don't buy it for a second. Giguere: .904 SV%, 3.02 GAA, making $6M/yr through 2010-11 season Toskala: .884 SV%, 3.31 GAA, making $4M/yr through 2009-10 season Compare to Osgood. Osgood: .880 SV%, 3.29 GAA, making $1.4M/yr through 2010-11 season. Toskala's SV% and GAA nearly identical to Osgood's...for $2.6M more a season. Giguere's SV% and GAA are better, but his SV% is a couple bad games away from going south of .900 and his GAA is still above 3. Not worth taking on $6M/yr until 2011. And before anyone says, "Well, Giguere's having an off year!", considering that Osgood might be as well. I'd rather Kenny pay $1.4M as opposed to $6M for an off year.

*nod* The ESPN article that was just linked stated that the "rule" was created last year. Is it a friggin' official rule or is it an "understanding"? It just comes down to this: Bettman was pissy that Crosby wasn't coming to Montreal, so to force him to come, the team that beat Crosby in the SCF has to pay the price. Doesn't quite seem right, does it?

It's not a rule though. It's an "understanding". There's a definite gray area there and I don't know why Kelly is bending over for Bettman on this one.

This doesn't quiote fit within the criteria, but you guys remember when Jim Hughson had thatr humorous partner in the EA NHL games?: I can't remember his name right now, but he had also done the play by play in NHL Rock the Rink for PSX. That was always some great commentary/description just becsuase it was so off the wall. When they stopeped including him in the EA games, it was a sad, sad day indeed.
