This was Osgood's best showing all year, hands down. The second goal he gave up was a little iffy (and the scoring chance was the result of a valiant, but failed defensive diving play by Kronwall, I believe), but the first goal was just a great play by Minnesota. LIGHTS OUT in the shootout. After a performance like that, I believe Ozzie when he says that this is the best he's felt all season. It sure looked like it. He was channeling Sawchuk out there.

This is definitely true. In this slump the Pens have been in, it's easy to just laugh at how unhinged Crosby seems to become every single game when the Pens are losing. But when I was his age, I probably would have reacted much the same way, letting my more primal emotions get the better of me. Now, if he still continues to act out like this as he ages? Then there's really something to talk about. And yes, this is coming from a Crosby hater. I said something (kind of) nice about him.

That Pens/Panthers game was entertaining. And hearing the play by play guys pretty much already concede defeat for the Pens' next game against the Rangers? Whoa boy. Wings are gonna have to have a hell of a showing tonight to top that.

Wow. I think I love you. Oh wait, no I don't, Trolly McTrollerton. Not the worst goalie in the league. Not even close. And considering how much - or rather how little - he gets paid ($1.4M), he's fine. Look to a Turco to see a poor, well-paid ($5.7M) goaltender this season. And back to the original topic, yes, Rafalski has definitely looked much better. The D as a whole has looked better, from Lidstrom on down (Lilja still being the most consistent of the D-men, despite an uncharacteristically sloppy showing during the first period of the Winter Classic). And when the D starts looking better, the offense starts clicking more. When the offense starts clicking more, we have clinics on the ice (San Jose, Chicago, etc.). This team still has a ways to go to make me truly believe that we can repeat as Cup champs, but they're well on their way.

Okay, haven't read the whole thread, but I'll assume someone has already said what I have...but it clearly looks like Ovechkin let up on the hit at the end, seeing that Heward was prone and that this is just one of those freak occurrences. If this was a deliberate thing, Ovechkin wouldn't have skated over to Heward and stood over him while they were strapping him in. Think of someone like Pronger when he injures someone (and it's a matter of opinion whether or not the injuries he causes are deliberate or not). He never seems to show concern for the injured player. Just skates back to the bench and yucks it up with his teammates. Same for a guy like Tootoo. Has Ovechkin made some questionable hits in the past? Yes. But this isn't one of them.

I thought that was actually what they did last year too. Horn sounded at the 10 minute mark, no matter what was happening on the ice and teams switched sides. Am I misremembering? -

Probably an obscure part of the rule book. Wondering what the call would be though. Probably an unsportsmanlike penalty, as in "It's unsportsmanlike to play with two sticks." Teams have switched sides. And I never want to hear Panger say "potty break" ever again. -
