Just put in my vote. We call him The Captain (capitalized) for a reason.

do hall of famers normaly have their numbers retired?
edicius replied to ben_usmc's topic in General
If San Jose's going to end up retiring a number, Marleau's definitely the guy for that. -
10 lost games in 32 games is good enough for 3rd fewest losses in the league. San Jose has 7 with OTLs (in 33 games), Boston has 9 (in 32 games). They're both leading their respective conferences. Might want to do a little research before you make a comment like "10 lost games is a lot in 32 games".

I'd really like to see Wolverine in the red and white. Sadly, he's a Calgary fan.

And THAT'S exactly my problem with this. But before I say anything else, a disclaimer: I don't like Crosby. I don't like all the hype. I don't like the pouty face he makes when he doesn't get his way. I don't like his diving like he was shot out of a cannon. I don't like his attitude on the ice that he deserves special treatment from the refs. I admit all of that. So take what I say below with that in mind. Crosby's supposed to be THE face of the NHL. He's the golden boy. Does s*** like this happen in the league every single night? Of course. But the goddamn poster boy for the league doing this? You know, the player who's supposed to single-handedly "save the league"? He's not supposed to be out there cheap-shotting guys. Pronger can do it all he wants (or so Colin Campbell says) but you know what? PRONGER'S NOT THE FACE OF THE LEAGUE. It's not "old time hockey" in this case, it just adds to Sid's "not quite as advertised" image.

Permanent expulsion from the league! Effective immediately!

Absolutely horrible call. Especially for one that decided the game.

Exactly what I was gonna say. I had a video shoot tonight, didn't get out until about 9 or so. Managed to catch part of the 4rd (and all three goals within, to boot). I thought it was either going to be a close game or WE'D get blown out, not the Sharks. Surreal. But I have to ask...did we look good...or did we look lucky?

Honestly surprised that Sundin signed in the West. I won't be surprised if he doesn't thrive, though. He's played EC hockey his entire career (or Wales Conference, if you include Quebec) and it's yet to be seen if he can hang with the style of play in the West.

Nice to see that the Sharks can get beat by bottom-feeders as well.

Let's go BJs! Wait, that didn't come out right...

It bums me every time I remember that Shanny's not playing right now. He's one of my faves, has been from the first time he put on a Wings jersey. And no, I don't want him to sign with the Wings either - he knows that his time in Detroit is still over. You'd have to think there's a team or multiple teams out there that wants to sign him, but are waiting out this whole Sundin BS. If Sundin signs with New York (as I'm almost certain he will, as I seriously believe he doesn't want to be in the Western Conference), I could see Vancouver picking up Shanny as a consolation prize. If for some reason Vancouver gets Sundin, however, Shanny's still in limbo since the Rangers are clearly done with him.

USA TODAY: Lidstrom looking up at Weber, Boyle in latest rankings
edicius replied to kook_10's topic in General
Doesn't surprise me, honestly. Lids hasn't been the best defenseman in the league to this point. There have been nights where he hasn't been the best defenseman on the team. -
But Bettman has NO problem with Viagra and Enzyte commercials airing during NHL broadcasts. I guess he has no issues discussing with his 12 year-old daughter the line in those commercials which goes, "If you have an erection lasting more than four hours, consult a doctor immediately." Nice double standard, *******. I am SO sick and tired of this s***. I'm not a parent yet, but I know I'll be one in the next few years. And you know what? I'm going to TALK to my kids and if I need to explain something to them, I will. If I feel they're not ready for it, simple answer - "It's grown-up stuff. We can talk about it when you're older." I'm not going to ******* demand that someone ELSE do my own parenting for me. For f***'s sake, Bettman, BE A ******* PARENT. DON'T EXPECT EVERYONE ELSE TO DO IT FOR YOU. Can you tell this is a sore subject with me?

See, I haven't been crazy this season. Lilja's for real. I'd really like to see him get more minutes, honestly. But as long as Babcock keeps him out there on the PK blocking shots, I'm happy.
-
Except that he did just fine with the Isles and the Blues. Carried those teams on his back, in fact. If I remember correctly, wasn't Ozzie the goaltender that carried the Isles to their first playoff berth in over a decade?

I rarely make score predictions, but since - as I said before - I'll likely be missing this one, I'll throw my hat into the ring. 4-3 Wings. Goals from Franzen, Maltby and Rafalski.
-
Holy s***, I actually did WELL AGAIN this weekend?! Seriously, when I was seeing scores come up on the ticker the past couple days, I was thinking, "Hell, got that one wrong...think that one too...I doubt I would have picked that upset..." and so on. I think I've found my magic serum. Although, it'll be tough this Thursday, since I have shoots in the morning and evening. Ah hell, I'll pick 'em when I get home that night.

Who's their actual #1 these days anyway? Budaj? Or has Raycroft supplanted him? I haven't been keeping tabs on the Avs too much these days (with the exception of Sakic doing boneheaded stuff off the ice ). I might be here for the game tomorrow night, but it's not likely. Still dragging more stuff from the department; gotta dismantle our entertainment center and get it out here, plus get myself some more clothes.

I only got to hear little snippets of the game last night on XM. When I started listening, it was 2-2. Then I got to hear the Wings go ahead by a goal. Leave the car, start packing some stuff into it to take to the house and when I'm back in the car, it's 4-3 Coyotes. Which didn't surprise me at all. I did get to hear the Franzen goal though. I was certain that once we had pulled Ozzie AND were on the PP (free icing for the Yotes) that the ENG would be a gimme for 'em. From what I heard of the game, it sounded like a lot of good back and forth action. Still, we shouldn't be giving up 4 goals to the Coyotes. I'm pleased we were able to get 4 as well, though (and then, technically, a 5th and 6th in the shootout) because Bryz is no slouch as a goaltender. That, at least, says something about this team's ability to score - it's there. Defending, not so much. I'm assuming Lilja played balls to the wall, of course. EDIT: Oh yeah, how did Cheli look in his return anyway? I'm assuming rusty, but then, you sometimes never know what you're going to get when it comes to Cheli.

And directly following what I thought was his best game of the season, to boot. Thought he might have been turning the corner, but perhaps not. I mean, on that Brunnstrom goal, he just...just...let him walk in. He actually PEELED OFF from Brunnstrom. I can understand not wanting to accidentally screen Conklin, but he just kind of waved his stick at Brunnstrom, began to skate away from him and let him do what he wanted with the puck. That's not Nick Lidstrom-style defense. That's, to be blunt, some really lazy s***.

Screw this, I'm turning into an attention ***** tonight. PAJAMA JAM! (admittedly, I mainly did this for my Twitter feed )
