I should have definitely done some photo progressions for this, just never thought of it. But even looking at a headshot of me from April versus a headshot of me now, I can see a difference. April '08 (photo taken for a thing at work, blech): September '08 (snapped today): I think there's at least a slight difference there.

Schneider waived by Ducks/traded to Atlanta.

Interesting on the "additional players" bit. The other GMs KNOW that they have Burke over a barrel and there ain't a damn thing he can do about it. If he wants to get rid of Schneider, he's gonna have to lose something else too - most likely a roster player, considering the leverage they have (or do they mean an additional player coming Anaheim's way?). As far as the Teemu signing for the minimum, there's no way the NHLPA would allow it. Think of it this way - would the NHLPA have allowed Sakic to re-sign with the Avs for, say, $2M? Of course not. Teemu's 38, Sakic's 39, so there's a similarity in age. Their stats are comparable as well, taking into account the abbreviated 07-08 seasons both had (Sakic had 40 pts in 44 games, Teemu had 23 points in 26 games). Sakic is getting paid $6M this season, which for his production and skill set is fair market value...so, to be honest, I'd think the NHLPA would even be skeptical with a $3M contract right now, much less a league minimum. $3M is a huge discount - $500K is just ridiculous.
  3. I think he'll do well with the Griffins, because I have a feeling that's where most of his ice time will be.

I'm a happy, happy boy today. However, I do feel bad that Schneids is getting jerked around like this. But then I remember how much Burke is getting screwed here - he might not be able to sign Teemu! - and it makes me happy again.

    LGW Fit Club

Just a quickie progress report... Starting weight: 229lbs (July 17th) Current weight: 203lbs (September 17th) I may not see it as much, but everyone from faculty on campus to my orthodontist have noticed that I've lost weight. Nice feeling. I think I've even dropped a pant size; all my size-38 jeans are fitting very loose, but I don't have any size-36 jeans left to try on. Current goal is to be down below 200lbs before Christmas, which shouldn't be a problem at all if I keep going like I am. After that, I'd like to potentially get myself down to 175lbs, but I'm not going to get ahead of myself.

Hey, maybe the rest of the league would really like to screw Burke just that much. Of course, then he'd just start crying "Collusion! Collusion!". And thanks for the info, NFM25, that makes more sense to me now.

From what I read on it today (I wasn't sure either), Anaheim would be on the hook for 50% of his salary. Correct?

Schneider waived by Ducks/traded to Atlanta.

Before Schneider got waived, the Ducks were $3.235M (according to NHLSCap.com) over the cap. Schneider's salary cap hit for 08-09 is $5.625M (salary is $5.75M). $3.235 -5.623 -$2.388M (under the cap) And if Schneids is claimed on re-entry waivers, that actually ends up putting the Ducks back over the cap (50% of the cost, right?) by almost $500K. How'd you arrive at your number?

And the funny thing is that this effectively only frees up 2.39M for Teemu. You'd think Burke could have gotten at least a draft pick for him, but I'm getting the feeling that other GMs don't even want to give THAT much to Burke.

Report: Sundin wants to play for Rangers

You know, looking at this report again, the Rangers can't afford him either - they're still over the cap by a hair. With Montreal out of the mix, the most likely destinations for Sundin (taking into account money available for said teams) are Colorado or Vancouver - that is, if he'll even sign with a Western Conference team (which I don't think he will). If not them...hey, Toronto has money.

    Robert Lang traded to Montreal

Good point. Both Lang and Williams played hard against us when they were in Chi-town. Now with Lang to Montreal (following another "fan-bashing-favorite" in Dandenault ) and Williams in Atlanta, that play-hard-against-your-former-team element of the Blackhawks is gone. Perhaps now we'll be back to the whole "Blackhawks stink it up against us until the last couple weeks of the regular season" status quo. Of course, that's not to say that they don't still have some good players on their team, so who knows? Despite this clearly being a salary dump, this could actually help the Blackhawks.

What happens if the Wings are over the cap 10/9?

I wouldn't put it past Burke, who would later blame it on Lowe. Nah, seriously, I doubt any GM or owner would be stupid enough to do that, knowing that they'd lose control of said team. As of right now, these are the teams that are exceeding the cap and the amount by which they're exceeding it: San Jose Sharks ($225,834) Chicago Blackhawks ($458,856) Philadelphia Flyers ($1,031,667) Calgary Flames ($2,299,167) Washington Capitals ($2,692,212) Anaheim Ducks ($3,235,000)

Definitely let us know about the Hydroxycut and if it seems to have any effect. I've always been curious about it, but not curious enough to spend money on it. You can be our guinea pig. As for beer/alcohol, as long as you're not drinking heaps of it, you should be okay. I usually have a glass of wine every night (either red or white, 5oz is between 100 - 130 calories). A bottle of light beer like Bud Light is 110 calories and Mike's Hard Lemonade even has a light version that, I believe, is only 100 calories/bottle. It's when you start getting into the mixed drinks and such that you can run into problems. Just remember what Tony Sinclair says: "Always in moderation!"

Hossa arrives in Detroit on Friday

News to me too. Not technically signed yet, but it's been agreed upon.

Will it not be extremely hard to repeat?

It'll definitely be hard. Hell, it's hard in just about any sport. Do I think the Wings have the talent to do it? Of course. But going through that grind two seasons in a row is a tough thing to do.

    Selänne will play another season

Question: How could Anaheim hope to sign him when they're currently $3.235M over the cap? Looks like Burke gets to trade from a position of weakness once again!

    Members photos

The weird things you find in Google searches when looking up old friends. I found an image archive saved from the old BBS on which I used to spend most of my teenage years. The pic below? That guy on the right? That's me at age 16. Thirteen years ago. Yikes.

He'll definitely be a good addition to the coaching staff. Happy trails, Stu.

    Kenny says no

Exactly. I honestly believe the reason Sundin hasn't "decided" is because he already had - but he took too long and Hossa got in while the gettin' was good. His best bet for a Cup on a team that can afford him is probably the Habs. He goes elsewhere, he's just getting a paycheck and chances are, he won't even sniff the postseason.

Good for Joe. Glad he didn't take as long to decide as some other free agents.

Bertuzzi, Cammalleri Happy To Be Back In Canada

You should have seen the board for the series against Calgary in '07. There were more than a few Calgary fans who came over here to "resort to trolling". I think that's where some of our recent resentment comes from. Thankfully, there were a couple GOOD Flames fans that came to the board and conducted themselves properly.

Same here. I don't expect to see Sundin signed with a team before Christmas.

Bertuzzi, Cammalleri Happy To Be Back In Canada

I have a feeling Bertuzzi's confidence may already be shot. If Brian Burke tossed him aside like old trash - and we know the man-crush Burke has/had for Bert - that's gotta shake him up a bit. He'll probably be adequate in Calgary, but I doubt he'll do anything special and he's definitely not going to end up back to old form.
