In any case - over the cap or right up against it - Burke's in trouble. Again. And, surprise surprise, the rest of the league knows it. Bryzgalov part deux.

It's nice to finally get a top-rated comment on TSN.
-
And yet, I still like and respect you...

Bettman says, "Knock it off." Odd that Bettman didn't say anything about this whole thing during the whole time Burke continued to mercilessly disparage Lowe and the Oilers. Yet the moment Lowe says something about poor little ol' Burkie Poo, Bettman intervenes. Try to be a little less transparent next time, Gary. You're becoming much too obvious.

No Cup for the Flames this coming season.
-
No, more recent than the Steelers. Thus why I put New York ahead of Pittsburgh, despite both cities only having one championship over the past six years. Yeah, I realize I was a little unclear with that asterisk.
-
Boston should be a lock for this with six championships in the past six years (Patriots x3, Red Sox x2, Celtics x1). New York's not even close. Yankees haven't won it all since 2000, only four times in the past 20 years. Giants have won once in the past 20 years. Rangers have won once in the past 68 years. Knicks haven't won since 1973. Let's look at Pittsburgh: Pirates' last championship: 1979 Steelers' last championship: 2006 (first since 1980) Penguins' last championship: 1992 (one of two total) Three championships in 20 years. One in the last six (compared to Boston). Meanwhile, Detroit has seven in 20 years. Three in the last six. Just looking at the past six years, since Boston's setting the pace for that, the ranking between these four cities should be: 1) Boston (6) 2) Detroit (3) 3) New York (1)* 4) Pittsburgh (1) *More recent championship in the last six years Okay, enough typing, time for me to go to bed.

I love how Shero says he's "capable of providing offense for (their) hockey club." Yep, all 23 points he had in 78 games last year.

Red Wings To Play Blackhawks In Winter Classic
edicius replied to RedWingsFanatic's topic in General
Woulda preferred the Yankee Stadium venue (since I would have undoubtedly gone), but an outdoor game is cool nonetheless, especially when it involves the Red Wings and not Jesus scoring in a shootout. -
And even then, Cooke's not much of an upgrade over Ruutu. Scored 7 more points than him last season - 4 more goals, 3 more assists.

I'm now officially going to be rooting for Pissburgh (because of all the pissing and moaning they do) to miss the playoffs next season. What a bunch of ******* crybabies. That city must really love Therrien to emulate him so well.
-
Nice to see that they have so much money to burn, quite literally. Jerseys ain't cheap.
-
Except for the fact that it's been Burke doing all the pissing and moaning up until this point. Lowe's been silent until now.
-
Dude...I love you. In a totally hetero way. That letter was fan-*******-tastic.
-
Dammit, howard... You stole my thunder. But GMTA, for sure.
-
Kevin Lowe is now officially my second favorite GM in the league (behind Kenny, of course). Preach on, brotha.
-
I'm genuinely curious...how many teams in the East finished in the top 10 defensively? That whole West vs. East thing...
-
And NOW Pittsburgh is going to panic and overpay for Sundin...unless Vancouver gets him first!

Ah, that makes sense as well. It's true that Hossa was taking a huge gamble by signing a one-year deal with the Wings. If he... A) Has a bad season B) Goes down with an injury ...his market value undoubtedly drops for long-term deals. That said, it's clear that Hossa wants to win the Cup and he believes that we're his best shot - not Pittsburgh. Undoubtedly. Seriously, the Pens act like everyone in the league has to want to play on the Pens with Crosby, otherwise they're out of their friggin' mind. It's much like the Toronto syndrome where everyone allegedly wants to play on the Leafs.
-
That seems to be their biggest sour grapes point thus far, despite the fact that Hossa's been relatively injury free over his NHL career and that his knee surgery was back in Juniors, I believe. So what they're basically saying is that by signing with the Wings, he's injury-prone. But if he signed with the Pens, he would be just fine and/or dandy.

Was Therrien crying in the background?
-
If anyone's to blame for ridiculous signings and outrageous contracts...it's the New York Islanders.

Columbus is serious this year. And with Hitch behind the bench, they can only improve. Not saying they'll snag a postseason berth this coming season, but they may end up close. All depends on how they start out of the gate.
