Toronto's going to sign him. Burke told them to.
-
EXACTLY. Burke inherited most of the pieces of that team. It's the same reason you can't give Holland credit for the Cup in '98 - he ultimately inherited that roster (although he gets MORE credit than Burke, as he was Assistant GM for 3 years before that). Once you see Burke actually doing what he does, it's a disaster. Look at the Canucks. That team STILL hasn't recovered totally from his "leadership". The Ducks will be in disarray for at least a few years after he leaves due to his missteps.

Therrien drives another player away from the Pens. I love it.
-
I'm all for redemption...but not Emery. I'd sooner take Avery over Emery and that says something.
-
My thoughts exactly. I won't be surprised if the Leafs snag him. Would cement Burke's man love for Bertuzzi, despite this whole waiver thing.

Scott Niedermayer Has Decided To Play Again Next Year
edicius replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
*yawn* Who, now? -
I didn't think they were expecting to have Nieds on for this season though, creating potential salary cap issues. What's their number at now with him on the roster?
-
I'll be damned. Now the question is, will he still act like a diva and not show up for training camp? And with Scotty Needavacation™ definitely returning (and for a full season, to boot!), my guess is that Schneids will be shown the door.
-
Exactly. And the league will just let him pull that garbage once again. Admittedly, it's not as bad with Selanne as he is a free agent...but come on, it's salary cap shenanigans. Did the league not see this exact same scenario play out last year? And if Niedermayer doesn't decide by training camp (likely) and doesn't report to training camp (ditto), will he be fined $500K again?
-
This thread needs more skin. Just sayin'. (Now THAT should derail the thread... )
-
It's absolutely amazing how much good will and respect Niedermayer has lost over the past year, just as a result of his lack of class with all these delays. Apparently, jerking everyone around in the 2007-08 season wasn't enough for him. Totally classless.

From Dreger on TSN: Emphasis mine.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241516&lid...os=topStory_nhl Okay, something's clearly going on behind the scenes in Pittsburgh if players like Hossa and Roberts are bailing. I'm starting to wonder if those rumors about players hating Therrien weren't true. On the other hand, Roberts can't be so stupid to think that he's still worth $2.5M a season, can he...?
-
But there are also two sides to that story. The other side says that Malkin told all his friends that he wouldn't take less than Crosby money, no way, no how.
-
On the other hand, why does everyone think he's a lock to stay?
-
I can't remember where I read/heard it (I have a problem lack of attribution lately, I admit it ), but someone theorized that Crosby is a locker room nightmare due to the fact that he, ya know, lives with the owner of the team. Anyone questions Crosby and Mario brings the hammer down. Of course, that's a little farfetched. It's probably something closer to a lack of good leadership in the locker room (both Therrien and Crosby), drawing players away to teams with a more cohesive leadership structure.

Oops, not so fast, Clouts... http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241472&lid...os=topStory_nhl
-
And even more unrealistic now. Nashville's close to signing him for a 3-year deal at $4.5M/yr. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=241451&lid...os=topStory_nhl
-
He's talented...but we don't need that kind of distraction. If even Yzerman couldn't keep Avery totally in check, there's little hope for him.
-
I'm glad someone got the reference. (Although, it's Chev Chelios, but same diff... )
-
What we need to do is inject him with a toxin that'll cause him to die unless he keeps his adrenaline up. Wait, wrong Chelios. My mistake.
-
What about that Nickolas Lindstrom fellow?
-
Just throwing this out there... Could Hossa's reluctance to sign with the Pens be due to an issue with Therrien? I don't have anything on which to base this, but just thought it was worth a mention.

See, this is why I like you...
