I'm seriously starting to think that Franzen's doctors are on the Pittsburgh payroll.

The funny thing is, Gary Bettman himself disagrees with you. Two weeks ago on NHL Hour on XM, when dealing with callers regarding the Holmstrom call in Game 4 against Dallas, he called goaltender interference a judgment call. Then, in the very next breath, he calls instances of hitting the puck with a high stick and the "distinct kicking motion" to also be - you guessed it - judgment calls, but still ultimately reviewable. If those are judgment calls, but reviewable, so it goes that goaltender interference calls should ALSO be reviewable.

See, I just thought he was getting ahead of himself...thinking of Steve Yzerman and accidentally attributed the name to Sid. Stuff like that's happened to all of us. As for the "Queens" gaffe, sounded more like the latter half of "Penguins" to me, like he missed a breath. Budd Lynch rules, so I can't fault him for a damn thing.

I honestly think that O'Halloran is filling the void of "Most Incompetent Official in the NHL" that McGeough left upon his retirement. If you're gonna be horrible at something, be the MOST horrible at it. Thus, he's the best worst referee in the league.

It's a combination. Reputation call, plus a ref with a grudge. O'Halloran sees Holmstrom near the net, sees a goal scored and in his mind, it MUST be interference. He's making guesses, which isn't what officials should do. They should make judgments on what they've seen, not what they think may have happened. O'Halloran does this repeatedly and it's gone beyond "blown call" status. He's just an incompetent official. As I said in the GDT, these reputation calls on Homer are no different than if every time Crosby fell down during a scoring chance he got called for diving. He has a reputation for diving, therefore if he's on the ice, it MUST have been a dive. Just like if a goal is scored with Holmstrom in front of the goaltender, it MUST have been interference. The latter is apparently how O'Halloran justifies these outrageous calls.

Yeah, I heard Bettman mention this on XM on Thursday. Can't say I'm disappointed at all. This means that I'll get to see the Wings play the Rangers and Devils out here every other year. No complaints.

And whenever they cite the age factor, they mention Dom and Chelios - who aren't even PLAYING right now. Take them out of the equation and the average age of the Wings is on par with the league average. The Wings have youth. Just enough to give the Penguins (particularly Crosby and Malkin) fits. Combine that with experience and you have a deadly combination.

Ditto to that. I joined here in 2005 after I got sick of how poorly RWW was run for a pay site. I hate that RWW got my $40/yr for three years (although, I think I got free membership for a brief period as a result of so many tech problems with the site). Meanwhile, I gladly donated to LGW last year and don't regret it one bit.

Crosby sounds like he's adeptly whining about the officiating. "Waaaah! They were holding us up! We couldn't move fast! Call them, reeeeeeeefff!"
