Hey, in the weekend picks, I had Detroit losing to San Jose. I have them WINNING against Buffalo. It's gotta do something this weekend, right?
-
The way I read it... First quote: "I didn't do anything wrong! Why did Downey come after me?! It doesn't make any sense!" Second quote: "I don't care if he did or didn't do anything wrong, I'm gonna pound him!" Basically, the hypocrisy comes from his second statement directly contradicting the first. He thought he was innocent with the Lidstrom hit, therefore the "commotion" was unwarranted. However, he displayed apathy as to the legitimacy of the hit on Smyth (clean, not clean, who cares?) and felt that a "commotion" was appropriate either way. So, simply put... He doesn't think his hit on Lidstrom warranted a "commotion". The hit on Smyth, apparently, did. But that's just the way I see it.

Sad, but true. I've seen a ridiculous amount of times when the Wings have a scoring chance and then the play is blown dead for no reason. It's a bizarre double standard.
-
That's it. The hockey media has always preferred Canadian players to European ones. Ovechkin could be leaps and bounds better than Crosby, but he wouldn't get the props due to his being a Euro.
-
THIS. Right as always, Matt.
-
The problem I have with this is that one of the refs clearly DID see the puck. He raised his whistle to his mouth to blow the play dead...then didn't. That's not missing the play, that's just inept officiating.
-
That's actually a bit of a shame, since Downey looked great tonight. But I'm geeked to have D-Mac back where he belongs.
-
Ha! Now if only the Flames can beat the Ducks on the scoreboard...
-
THAT...is a game I absolutely won't miss. I'll be sure to wear my D-Mac jersey all day.
-
In the Anaheim game when Getzlaf nailed Ozzie in the crease, stealing the puck from him, leading to a goal? And then in the very same game, Homer gets called for interference by not even touching Giguere? Yup.
-
The Wings over Buffalo. Wonder how the refs will screw us in that game.

I'm a die-hard hockey fan. I'm a die-hard Wings fan. I'm not a fairweather fan and I'll usually call things as I see them as objectively as I can. While I haven't been watching much Wings hockey lately, due much in part to injured personnel on the Wings leading to lackluster play (I was excited to see Kronwall back and Stuart on the ice tonight), it's garbage like this officiating (Anaheim game included) that have resulted in me not wanting to watch hockey PERIOD. And I'm a die-hard hockey fan. Imagine the casual fans. They're not waiting around - THEY'RE GONE after crap like this. I'm not a conspiracy theorist who thinks that the officials are out to get the Wings...but for f@#%'s sake, there doesn't seem to be ANY sense of impartiality when it comes to the Wings these days. You damn well KNOW that if that goal had been scored by the Wings, it would have been called back. But if it was the Ducks, Flames, etc. there's no question that it would have stood, just as it did for the Sharks. There's only so many screw-ups I can tolerate from the refs that ALWAYS benefit the opposition of the Wings. I can think of only two or three occasions this entire season where it went the other way and the opposition got screwed. So, why us all the time? Like Matt said...it's a f@#%ing joke. Before tonight, I hadn't watched a game in at least a week and a half. It might be another week and a half before I can bring myself to watch another. A big hearty "f@#% you" to Stephen Walkom and Gary Bettman. Thanks for ruining my game.

Puck went out of play, hitting the netting. Ref raised his hand about to whistle the play dead...then for some inexplicable reason, didn't. Puck bounces off the netting to a San Jose player who pops it past Hasek. Goal, non-reviewable according to the officials.
-
Garbage like this is the reason I haven't been able to bring myself to watch Wings hockey lately. Even when we CAN score and have a game within our grasp, the refs take it upon themselves to completely decide a game. Oh well. At least I picked this game right in the weekend picks. And in other news...Huet shut out the Devils tonight in his first game with the Caps, 4-0.
-
And that's another one in the L column. Thanks, refs. We scored enough to at least take it to OT, but you thought better of it.
-
Kind of like in baseball stadiums? Makes sense to me.
-
Oh, come on, who cares if it was an icing, refs? You let San Jose take the faceoff in OUR end after an icing, right? Impartiality FTL.
-
Homer tripped behind the net, no call.
-
Referee: #10 Paul Devorski #32 Tom Kowal Linesman: #74 Lonnie Cameron #66 Darren Gibbs
-
Stuart's impressing me. And yes...should be a tie game. If we lose 3-2, Babcock and Holland should raise hell with league officials.
-
SAMMY! Thank you. Of course, it may not matter due to the corrupt/inept refs.
-
They just repositioned the HD feed on FSD and it OBVIOUSLY hit the mesh. And there was a ref standing RIGHT THERE. HE WAS ABOUT TO BLOW THE GODDAMN WHISTLE AND DIDN'T. I'm no conspiracy nut, but...
-
GARBAGE. The "Bulls***!" chant anew!
-
And, screwed by the refs again? IT HIT THE MESH.
-
PK upcoming. No help there.
