From what I've read, Teemu has pretty much come to terms with being retired without actually officially announcing it. From a PR standpoint, one should hope that the press conference is announcing Nieds' retirement. If they're getting everyone together to say, "Der, nothing's changing, der," that's just embarassing. Maybe they're going to say that he's "injured" and won't be available for a while...i.e. "pulling a Forsberg".

Doesn't it SAY on tickets that pucks may enter the spectator area and that you assume the risk by purchasing the tickets? I'm getting so damn sick of this sue-happy society.

HUGE props the the Stars' marketing department.

Let them take on his overinflated asking price. It won't help their defense.

Exactly. I recently got the black Zephyr hat with the gothic styled D (hella better looking that the concept design D) on the front and I dig that as maybe a shoulder-style logo, but definitely not a main logo.

Yeesh, that's taken from a hat design...and I hate that hat design too.

Question...what's the Ducks' salary amount 1) if Niedermayer returns and 2) if Niedermayer retires? I seem to recall Burke imposing a $42M cap for the Ducks and if Niedermayer returns, I'd guess that self-imposed cap goes out the window.
-
With the news of Niedermayer possibly NOT retiring, I'm surprised that Burke is still throwing around money.

Would look better without any text at all. Either have 'Tampa Bay Lightning' or none at all, not half.

Might take me a little bit to get used to, but it's nothing to have a fit about. For the most parts, our jerseys have remained unchanged. Can't say that about most other teams.

I'm within a chapter of finishing up "Lies My Teacher Told Me". After that I'll be moving on to the last three books of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

We've got some damn good looking ladies on this board. Just sayin'.

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks
edicius posted a topic in General
It honestly wouldn't surprise me. It also wouldn't surprise me if Balsillie is just grasping at straws here too. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/columns/stor...&id=2943361 -
Burke has major man love for Bert. That's what it comes down to.

Somebody call the Waaaaaaaambulance for Burke. No pity.

I hate Lowe...but hey, any move that can potentially screw Burke is a plus in my book. In this case, Lowe's the lesser of the two evils.

The yellow piping's a deal-breaker on those, just like the overuse of gold is on the Pens' jerseys. I'm becoming more and more afraid of what the Wings' new jerseys will look like.

Poor guy. I actually like Aebischer. Not a good place for him to end up; he was better off in Montreal.

We were there celebrating my mom's 50th birthday. Before we had even A) finished our meals, B) gotten my mom her birthday dessert, C) paid the bill, the "bouncer" (best description for him) came up to our table and was like, "Okay, out. Now." At the time, my sister's fiancee was not quite 21 yet and because of that, they were trying to force us out (they knew the relative ages of our party going in, but they also knew that this was a family dinner and not some teenagers just hanging out). We were sitting in the dining area, not at the bar and we weren't causing any trouble. I think I was the only one at the table drinking and I had only had one beer. We weren't the only people in the dining area either. My dad ended up having to struggle to get the manager - the "bouncer" initially refused to get the manager and when he finally arrived at our table, he was just as rude) and thankfully we were able to at least complete our meal and get my mom dessert...with the "bouncer" and another staff member hovering over our table the entire time. Really put a damper on the whole evening and because of that, we've never returned there. It's seriously some of the worst treatment me and my family have ever received at a restaurant in my entire life. EDIT: Typos.

Went to the Dearborn one a few years ago with my family and had, shall we say, a bad experience with the staff. Loved the food, the chili was great and I'd probably go back...but I know I could never get my family to return there after the way we were treated.

I actually rather like it.

If I were Sutter, I'd make damn sure there was a stipulation in my contract that Lou couldn't fire me without just cause...you know, like if the Devils are leading the division.

Glad to see Shanny back with the Rags. Hopefully I can actually take in a few Rangers games this season. My Rangers Shanny jersey needs to visit MSG. So did Mario. Must be something about that Pittsburgh air.

Actually, TSN just answered my question...and the answer, surprisingly, is no...sort of. Front-loaded contracts confuse the issue. When it comes down to it, per contract year, I think Sid will be the highest paid player in the league. However, if you're looking at a season-by-season basis, those front-loaded contracts make it so that players like Vanek, Briere and Gomez will actually make $10M in their first year of the contract. But that's neither here nor there, actually, since Sid's pay next season will still be $3.75M until the contract extension comes into effect in 08-09. By then, I don't think the aforementioned players' contracts will be front-loaded to the tune of $10M/season anymore.

Lilja was easily the second-best defenseman on the ice for us most games in the playoffs. Some games, dare I say, he even came close to outplaying Lids (i.e. Lids was having a rare off-game). Sure, he blew it on that play and he knew it...but he was also the only Wings goal scorer that game, if I recall correctly. Hockey gods giveth, hockey gods taketh away. If not for him, we wouldn't have even BEEN in OT.
