Stupid question...does that make him the highest paid player in the league now? I can't remember anyone else with a higher contract at this point, but my memory is faulty even at the best of times.
-
No thank you. Might as well just get Dan Cloutier. And there are still some people here who would say he should start instead of Osgood.
-
If a contender throws that kind of money at Dom, I'm thinking he's gone.
-
My first reaction when I saw the headline on TSN was, "Bert, you son of a *****...". Am I wrong for saying that?
-
Wow. I go on vacation (still on it, actually) and this happens? Crazy stuff. Jersey's in major trouble next season after losing both Rafalski and Gomez now. And I get the feeling that not many outsiders want to come into the Devils organization and play under Lou. But hey, at least they're getting a shiny new arena!

So it's okay to selll to a guy who wants to move the team to KC...but it's NOT okay to sell to the guy (for $50M more, to boot) who wants to move the team to Southern Ontario. Oooookay...strange things are afoot in Bettman's office.

If Schneids is asking for that much, I have to concur - let him go. Glad to hear that Dom will be back. At least we'll avoid the regular goalie-go-round in Detroit for at least one more season.

Rumor: Blue Jackets may buy out Fedorov's contract
edicius replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
Apples and oranges. Fedorov wanted to be "the man" and he knew he'd never find that in Detroit in Stevie's shadow. Shanny realized that he's part of Detroit's past and the new youth on the team are part of the future. Fedorov left for ultimately selfish reasons. Shanny left for the good of the Wings. Apples and oranges. -
I do have muscular calves and my thighs are on the larger side, so that does make some sense.

I gotta respect Sundin for sticking with the Leafs. It can't be easy to stay with a team on the decline like that.

Okay, I've been trying to figure out my weight for a while now. I'm 5'7" and weigh around 230lbs right now...but the thing is, I'm not that big. I do have a gut, but it's not a gut big enough to, say, rest a beer can on. I wear size 38 jeans very comfortably and often times need a belt for them (could probably wear size 36 jeans, but I'd be uncomfortable). My shirts are usually an XL and depending on the brand, sometimes even a size L (which is usually a little more snug around the gut area). I fluctuate about 5-10lbs back and forth it seems and I'll admit, I'm not nearly as active as I need to be to drop some of the weight. I even tried the Fat-Smash Diet very briefly...got through the 'Detox' phase (all I ate was brown rice, broccoli and oatmeal) and actually lost about 15lbs during that whole time. But I could never keep up with the next steps simply because it just turned out to be impractical for me in terms of time, finances and, yes, tastebuds. But any time I tell someone how much I weigh, the response is almost always the same... "That's impossible, you're not that big...your scale must not be working right." Sure, perhaps they're being polite, but seriously...is it possible that muscle mass is playing a larger role in the digits on the scale? But here's the real kicker...I hate eating. I find it to be an annoyance and damned inconvenient. I basically eat because I know I have to to keep my metabolism moving. Unfortunately, I know I don't exactly eat the best stuff either. Lots of frozen stuff (it's so much easier to grab a $1 Totino's pizza than make myself a real dinner) and very little of it veggies (I like broccoli and string beans...but hate peas, carrots and...uh...lettuce). Whenever we have meat in the freezer, however, it's always either chicken or ground turkey meat (supposed to be better for you than ground beef, right?). I rarely eat fried foods. I drink a lot of water every day, though and almost never drink soda (pop for you Midwesterners ). First time I had a soda in months was yesterday when I grabbed a Pepsi at Target because it had Transformers movie stuff on it. :lol I usually drink one travel-mug of coffee in the morning (down from my multi-cup mornings of the recent past) with powdered creamer and sweetened with Sweet and Low. I've actually found myself going without more often than not lately, simply due to forgetting to make it in the morning, which leaves me with just water for the day. Thankfully, the caffeine headaches have begun to subside. My job is, for all intents and purposes, a desk job with scattered periods of activity on my feet (I'm the head of the A/V dept. at a university), which doesn't help my overall activity quotient. There's a gym on campus I could go to. I used to every day until last September when work-related issues took anyway any spare time I had. Of course, that spare time returned this past February...but I never returned to the gym. I have aerobics-type options at home with (don't laugh) Dance Dance Revolution for my PS2, but again, I don't play enough even when I know I should. It's a good workout, especially in the "non-stop" modes. But I need motivation and after a long day of work...well, we all know how that goes. I'd love to be able to get myself back down below 200lbs, which I haven't been at since I lived in Michigan over 7 years ago. I just feel like I need that motivation and maybe some practical real-world solutions. I need to get into a routine and stick with it for a change. Wow. That was a long post. Did anyone actually read all of that?

You know what's really embarassing? Back in '03 when the Devils had their last "parking lot party", they actually had more people show up than the Ducks did for theirs. The Devils' count was approximately 20,000. At the Meadowlands, a location that is notoriously out of the way. For the Devils, a team that has little support during the regular season OR playoffs. In a metropolitan area with multiple NHL teams to choose from. THAT'S embarrassing for Anaheim.
-
Well, they're certainly following in the footsteps of the Devils. No parade for the Ducks. Instead, a "two-hour rally" at the Ponda. Sorry, I have to chuckle. http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=210149&hubname=nhl

No, no, that'll be me...look back a few pages to see my pics to see why.

Reminds me of the '03 Cup for Jersey. I was actually watching the final game with the only Devils die-hards I've known in the area and that made it at least entertaining to watch. But by the next day, Jersey was quiet. If I remember correctly, even the local Jersey papers just had the Cup win as a little blurb at the top of the front page and then shunted you off to the sports section. In Detroit, we do it right - front page, baby.
-
I'm with you. I can't remember the last time I didn't watch at least 75% of the games in a Cup Final. This year? 0% of the games in the Cup Final. Who won the Conn Smythe anyway? EDIT: N/m, just saw on Wikipedia. Bleh. I guess Niedermayer doesn't bug me AS much.
-
I haven't watched a single game of the Finals. I ain't gonna start now. And before anyone says I'm a sore loser...I watched every game of Edmonton/Carolina, Calgary/Tampa Bay and Anaheim/New Jersey (pity me on that one, blech). My heart just wasn't in it this year.

I can see it now...one of Pronger's teammates goes to hand him the Cup, but skates in a little too quickly...and Pronger catches him on the jaw with his elbow (you know, due to his massive height difference - he can't help it!). The Cup bounces off Pronger's shoulder, then falls on his left knee, leaving him physically unable to actually lift the Cup.
-
I'm curious, was Niedermayer reprimanded after that skirmish? After watching that clip, it looked like Niedermayer swung his fist dangerously close to the ref's head while the ref tried to distance him from Alfredsson. Yeah, yeah, I'm reaching. Maybe...and this is a big maybe...Alfredsson was trying to get a deflection off Niedermayer's stick, confuse Giguere and get a huge goal at the end of the period. Maybe. Probably not, though.
-
I didn't see it, but if Alfie did this stuff intentionally, yeah, it's pretty classless. And surprising. He's not a goon like Pronger - we EXPECT garbage like that from Pronger.
-
I feel like such a fanboy buying something like that, but it's just too cool. Buy it here! Never mind the fact that in addition to that, I spent another $74 on Transformers stuff today. Including this:

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
edicius replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
I'm just amazed he didn't get more than one game. The league has always said that repeat offenders will get harsher suspensions. Well, considering that Pronger did this just a few games ago AND got suspended for it...well...yeah, that's Colin Campbell for you. Realistically, he should have been suspended for at least 3 games. A single game didn't send a message last time; it won't this time either. -
Finally unloaded a pic from my camera. Last day of the playoff beard in my favorite room in the house. And then me with...uh...a new toy I bought today. Shut up, I'm allowed one uber-dork moment a year. EDIT: Fixed the link to the first pic...no idea why it stopped working.

Curses! Wait a sec. You just locked us ALL in! NOOOOOOO! (sorry, I don't have any new pics at the moment or I'd actually contribute... )
