    Opinions: Most improved player?

My boy Lilja. There is no other. He keeps playing like that, he'll have a jersey hanging alongside my Yzerman, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, etc. ones.

Am I the only one who reacts this way?

I'm bummed...but it didn't send me spiraling into a deep depression like last season's missed opportunity in Game 6 did. I said this in the GDT and I think it bears repeating: It hurts a lot more to lose a game you SHOULD have won (Legace's 3rd period meltdown in Game 6 against Edmonton) compared to a game you COULD have won (last night's 3rd period rally). We won't win the Cup this year. But overall, I'm really satisfied with how this team meshed and came to play. I'm proud of our guys, especially players like Lilja, Homer and Dats who really shone in the playoffs. For a team that was declared DOA post-Yzerman, I think we have a pretty bright future and we WILL win a Cup within the next five years.

    2007 WCF Post-GAME 6: Ducks 4, Red Wings 3

I think it's because this year, aside from being eliminated in the WCF instead of the first round, we went down fighting. As I mentioned in the GDT, last year was a matter of Legace snatching defeat from the jaws of victory - a total meltdown in the 3rd period. THAT was enough to raise the ire of many. In this game, we had our meltdown early, looked like we were totally out of it by the 2nd period. And then came the comeback, going down fighting. There's something more satisfying about losing a game that you could have won, rather than losing a game that you SHOULD have won.

I have a similar thing. I have to work a video shoot at a benefit dinner on Thursday night. Would have been going nuts not knowing what was going on in a Game 7. But also, yes...I'd rather have that problem too.

Strangely, mine did. I'm blond, but my facial hair takes on reddish tones, it's weird. I don't remember it coming in that full back in 2002. Guess that's the difference between age 22 and age 27. I actually kind of miss the beard now. As the playoffs went on, it felt natural. If the Wings had gone on to win the Cup, I was gonna keep it all summer.

    2007 WCF Post-GAME 6: Ducks 4, Red Wings 3

Thanks for a great season, guys. It was a hell of a ride and far better than I hoped it would be. As Kup said in the original Transformers: The Movie, "Not the end I'd hoped for, lad," but it was fun as hell. I'm going for the Sens in the Final, though. I wouldn't care either way, except for one simple thing: Pronger. I don't want that prick to ever see his name on the Cup. And Versus continues to suck; they just aired an ad for Game 7.

Homer even shook Pronger's hand. Better man than I.

Gotta give our boys credit for trying to mount one hell of a comeback. I had given 'em up for long dead in this one.

Wow. This is intense. My stomach's doing somersaults now when it hadn't been doing it at all this game.

PP upcoming. Surprised Giguere didn't get a whistle there.

That's what I'm hoping too. Next season will be the key, I think. If he can avoid another freak injury, he should be solid on our blue line. One thing that hurts with all his injuries is that I think it's stunted his physical game (kind of like when Fisch plowed Sedin through the glass psychologically stunted his for a bit); he's not as confident playing the body, lest it result in another injury. Hopefully he can get past that with good conditioning and good recovery practices.

Uncalled for. Doesn't mean I would mind seeing Pronger get caught in a rut on the ice, but still.

Amen. In terms of Kronner, I have to admit that my patience for his bad luck with injuries is wearing thin...and I know it's not his fault. If he can make it through next season relatively injury-free (i.e. no major injuries), it'll ease my mind considerably. Having such an injury-prone defenseman just isn't good for the blue line, though. It's a good thing Lids is so consistent on that front.

Me too. You gotta think that Detroit/Ottawa would have been a great story in the SCF due to the Hasek/Emery factor, but it seems it's not meant to be.

WCF Game 6 (5/22) GDT: Red Wings @ Ducks - 9 PM ET

Agreed. We weren't even supposed to make the playoffs. Game 6 of the WCF ain't too bad for the first Lidstrom-led Wings team. You know what's weird too? This game isn't disappointing me nearly as much as last season's elimination against the Oilers. This was a meltdown relatively early for us. Last season, we had that Game 6 well in hand until Manny snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. This one was, for all intents and purposes, out of reach by the 2nd period. Er, wait, maybe not? Dats scores on the PP! Zetts and Dats pick a hell of a time to score on the road.

I've gotta hand it to the Ducks. This is the first really convincing game they've played this series. Figures it would be the most important game of the series too. They know how to step it up when blood's in the water.

Okay, game over again. No shutout for Giguere, but...yeah.

Were they sandbagging it the first two periods or something? This looks like a completely different team in the 3rd. Mind you, sandbagging is no good when you give up 3 goals...
