I'm not denying that he should be in, but we know the game of politics in the ASG. Players like Luongo, Brodeur and even Ovechkin and Crosby should have no business sniffing the ASG this year (the former because he hasn't been an all-star this season and the latter because he's barely played this season). I've always been of the mind that the ASG ballot should be based on the current season, not reputation or name or the previous season's accomplishments - the current season. That's why Howard deserves it, but politics is why he won't get it.

No thanks. ASG is a popularity contest based on name recognition and blatant favoritism. Besides, I tapped out after that whole debacle a couple years ago.

Just a heads up, I downloaded the feed on Zune via the podcast link and for some reason, Episode 2 downloaded instead of 3. Has all the info for 3, but the file itself is 2. Misdirected link, maybe?

Exhibit A: On one hand, you can say that since the headshot didn't connect and there was no injury, there's nothing to suspend. On the other, however, Malkin was clearly trying to take Giroux's head off (and lost his balance a bit when Giroux ducked, so the momentum was there showing this wasn't just some attempted little tap) so you could make the argument for intent to injure. It's just such curious behavior from the team that was speaking out so loudly against headshots (and Matt Cooke's been relatively quiet this season, so you can't even blame it on him).

I thought that was rather impressive too. Would have been hilarious if Malkin took a header after missing a la Pronger trying to take out Yzerman that one time.

So, what's the over/under on the suspension for Downie?
