Islanders turn cold blooded on top prospect
WhiteLightning91 replied to kipwinger's topic in General
I'm a couple Busch Light Camo's deep on this Friday evening, so forgive me ahead of time. But I'm gonna need you to spell out what Tom-Foolery you made of Ho-Sang's name to earn a week's worth of asterisks. I came up with a few of my own assumptions, but maybe I'm expecting it to be more clever than you intended. -
Me and my buddy are thinking about it. I live in Seattle so it would be the most convenient game for me to see.

Goalie is a position that I personally need to see more than 1 playoff round and less than half a season in order to ship out my starting goaltender. But that's me. Jimmy wasn't nearly good enough last season, but Mrazek needs to prove it again this season, or at least through Christmas, for me to seriously consider it.

The girl from the WIIM Podcast contributes a pretty good round-up of all the invites at camp on the most recent episode. I would check out their site as I'm sure they have an article with the names.

Am I the only one who took this as some dry wit from Franzen? I thought he was implying Nyquist did not like Babcock. Franzen always seemed to have a pretty dry, sarcastic sense of humor in his interviews.

Tarasenko re-signs with the Blues (60 mill/8 years)
WhiteLightning91 replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
I understand that he had a great season. But I'm of the belief that backing up a Brinks truck right into the fender of another Brinks truck at this junction is a bit premature. Plenty of guys have been down this road only to eventually lose their way. Again, not saying Tarasenko will fall into that category, only time will tell. I'm just surprised at how many people believe this deal is a home run. -

Nothing against Tarasenko, but what about this contract is a steal? The guy has 135 points in 179 games. I am asking more in regards to what people thought a guy with one great season would get? Personally I do not care what a guy makes, just logically I am confused as to how some people think he is somehow being underpaid. -
Pittsburgh's roster is certainly better with Kessel, I just do not think scoring was their problem. They still have not addressed the concerns of roster depth or defensive deficiencies. You could argue they made their depth worse with the Kessel trade. And I don't buy into the belief that the Pens will all of a sudden be better this year because Dupuis, Letang, and Maata are supposedly healthier. They haven't had an even halfway decently healthy season as a team since Crosby suffered his first concussion. I don't see why one would think this season will be any different.

I'd love to read the quote where Bettman says "jerseys will have advertisements on them because I want them to." Go ahead and point it out to me. If Im wrong then I will eat my crow medium rare.

If Bettman wanted ads on jerseys, he could've done it a long time ago...some people's ignorance is beyond obsurd.

Jim Devellano on Mantha's play: "Very disappointing"
WhiteLightning91 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I'm gonna give Jimmy D the benefit of the doubt here. I would be highly surprised if that was the exact quote. I'm also wondering the context of the quote. Certainly wouldn't be the first time a reporter eff'd those two things up for the sake of grabbing eyeballs, but it would certainly be one of the VERY few times I've seen Red Wings management criticize a player in such a blatant manner. Something seems off about it. -
GDT ECQF Game 7 GDT : at Lightning 2, Red Wings 0 (Tampa wins series, 4-3)
WhiteLightning91 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
If you would have told me our Captain and leading scorer would score only twice in the last 29 games, in addition to a whopping zero in a 7 game first round series, this is exactly the result I would have expected. Not sure what to make of Zetterberg's performance the last third of the season and playoffs. -
WCQF : (4) Nashville Predators vs. (5) Chicago Ham Hocks
WhiteLightning91 replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
I can sympathize boys, always a double-edge sword when it comes to OT in the playoffs and living in the eastern time zone. Thankfully, after spending 25 years in Detroit, I get to enjoy this years playoffs from my new place in Seattle. Only 10:45 here. Surprisingly enough, they just showed the shots 50 to 46 in favor of NSH. They must've worked over the Hawks early on in the game. The entire OT seems like Chicago has been on the PP. Couldn't believe the Preds had the shot advantage. -

Cliche post of the evening: nothing beats OT playoff hockey, especially when you're team is not involved. So much less stressful. -

Great game. Who's watching? -
I've been hearing for the last few seasons what a great coach McLellan is, but i've never really known why the media is always banging that drum in unison. What has he really done that makes people think he's so great? Is he a great motivator? Great strategically? Hasn't won anything as a head coach. Great regular seasons have been marred by post-season disappointments. I'm not saying he's a bad coach, just not sure what it is that makes people think he's a great coach.

Axel Holmström is having a great playoff so far.
WhiteLightning91 replied to Ekmanc's topic in Prospects
The cynic in me needs this question answered; What's the story on his linemates? I don't want to be taken down the path of Martin Frk again. Frk had a great season with Halifax after his draft year, but it was mostly due to him seeing plenty of time alongside MacKinnon and Drouin. -
Kings' Jarret Stoll arrested for cocaine possession

Off topic: Jarret Stoll is definitely one of the best at wheeling women in the league. That guys dating history is pretty impressive. -
Red Wings' playoff lines and priorities

Did any of the beat writers tweet out what the lines looked like at practice? -
This. I always suffer a mild aneurysm when I hear that one due to how furiously my eyes roll.

Red Wings' playoff lines and priorities
WhiteLightning91 replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
The first time I read this, my subconscious inserted the word "another" before "chance". -
They were talking on either Hockey Central or MvsW last week, can't remember who, about whether Buffalo landing McDavid entices Babcock to want to take charge of the Sabres. Honestly, I could see that as something he would be interested in, especially McDavid. Assume for a moment McDavid does live up to the hype of being the next Crosby. Wouldn't a coach love to have that kid as his center piece? And Buffalo does have some pretty good prospects coming. Pegula has enough money to allow Babcock to write his own check as well, so the money aspect can be thrown out the window.

Ham Hocks? Is that the PC version of what their real nickname is?
