I'm pretty sure the Wings signed Osgood for 3 years because they are expeting him to be the starter for that many years. Jimmy Howard is no where near ready to be a #1 goalie yet in this league. Hopefully, in 3 years time, he can pick up a few things from Ozzie and be ready once Chris' contract expires.

Seriously, though. I don't think we have to worry about this ever happening. Simply because the Dives are not looking for a 4th line grinder. With Sakic and Smyth out, I can't see Dives management thinking that by signing McCarty, they are fixing the problems they have -- goal scoring, defensive depth, true #1 goalie, etc. Not exactly the kind of problems McCarty would solve. Now the Red Wings on the other hand...

I'm pretty sure GM's are smart enough to properly estimate a player's status on their team more in depth than just what line their on.

Defense? OK. I agree with you on that one. But the West's goaltending is quite a bit better than the East's as well? Luongo is the better goalie to build a team around but when it comes down to who I want in my net at the end of the day, Marty prevails. I would say the goaltending is about as evenly matched as it can get; The best goalie of this generation vs. the best goalie of the next generation.

See, now that is just a post of total ignorance. You may say that you have, but judging from your response, you have not watched many games this year in which Osgood has played. He has stolen a couple games for us this year which we had no business winning. He is playing the best hockey of his career. Holland said it. The team said it. The coach said it. Hell, even Melrose said it. And if he was only winning because of seeing low amounts of shots, how do explain him still having the best SV % in the league?

I could've swore I heard Ken Daniels mention this last night during the game but never heard anything about it in the post game interviews or from Babcock. Hopefully it is nothing serious. Kopecky is never going to be able to take the next step in his development if he doesn't stay healthy.

Have you not watched a single game this year? He made another mistake just last night that resulted in another goal. He does that at least every other game. Blake may be washed up, but you have to think of it this way; a washed up Blake is better than Lilja ever will be. And since Lilja will be gone after this year, since he knows he could probably find more playing time on another team and make a little more, it's not like we are holding back one of our young guys. Lilja has no future with this team. The only problem is that we will likely be outbid by another team for his services. Bring Blake in. He can't do any worse than Lilja, but he can be a lot more physical.

MLive No names mentioned. I just hope that they stand firm on their decision to not give up the future. Any suggestions?

I understand them having the Penguins in this game, but why did they pick the Sabres??? Sould've picked the Rangers or Flyers...Someone who will lead to higher ratings. Sabres fans are great, but the Rangers would've generated more publicity.

There was more to the fight then just the big hit by Lucic. Jackman and Lucic had words with each other earlier in the game because Jackman put a nice crosscheck on Peter Schaefer.
