I knew this was coming when Babcock didn't have Downey on the final roster but it makes me angry still. I want to see someone willing to stick up for their teammates on this team. Im tired of our guys getting cheapshotted by other teams every other week because they know they can get away with it. I'm sorry, but Drake isn't going to do anything to deter players from running our guys. He only got 2 good shots on f***in' Corey Perry.

That was really funny. As much as I hate them, I always wish the best for franchises like Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, and NYR simply because they were such exciting teams to play against back when they were all halfway decent. Thankfully the NYR are really good this year. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for them to come out of the East this year simply because it would be really good for the sport and would be a really exciting Finals if a certain team who wears a winged wheel on its uniform comes out of the West

Anyone know what warranted this guy ever being drafted first overall??? Looking at his statistics from the years before he was drafted, he scored only 50 points in 58 games in the F'n IHL. He should have twice that in order to be considered even a first rounder...I never understood what Atlanta saw in this guy...

I was on Samuelsson's case all year last season, so I am by no means a big supporter of his, but that is just an ill-informed statement right there. The guy is 6'2 and 210lbs. Hardly "small" on even the biggest of teams. I thought he played pretty fiesty last night and showed a nice gritty edge to his game for the first time since we signed him.

It was a good decision by Datysuk. If the puck doesn't roll on him, he scores because he went from his backhand to his forehand in such a quick fashion that he had the a big area of the net open to shoot at. The puck rolled on him so he wasnt able to get any lift on the puck. Believe me, if the puck doesn't roll, he would've scored because Ilya was not fast enough to react to the quick backhand to forehand maneuver. Off Topic -- Was anyone else screaming at their TV's last night during the shootout because of the asinine camera angle VS. had for the shootout? You couldn't even see the shot take place until the very last second.

I would be ecstatic to see Markov back in the red and white but not at the salary he is seeking. The problem is his demands exceed his worth to the team, but that's not to say he wasn't worth that much to us. He was no doubt our most physical player last year and was the only d-man who had any sort of nasty streak to him. I loved his passion for the game as well as the emotion he played with. Signing him to a $3M deal for 2 years was ideal to me. Even though he has been rumoured to be on his way to Beantown for the last month and a half, I still say there is a very good chance he signs with San Jose. They have more than enough cap room to meet his demands, and are without one of their physical presences on the blue-line from last year after lossing Hannan to the Avalanche this offseason. Add in the fact that SJ has a pretty damn good shot at winning the Cup again this year and its a win win for both parties.

I honestly did not know yo could just sign with another team while you were trying out for one.

Well, since Buccigross is the only ESPN writer I read on a constant basis, I was eagerly waiting for his predictions to come out. When I read the Red Wings' prediction this afternoon, I wanted to say we would prove him wrong, but he is right. You can never have enough grit and physicality to a team and that is what it will take to put this team over the top.

Grigorenko is a better off getting 19:00 - 21:00 minutes in GR than 10:00 - 13:00 minutes up here. His conditioning and stamina is just not there yet so him starting the season in GR is the best option. I would rather see Downey in as the replacement for Grigs rather than Ellis simply to watch Filppula's back since we will be facing Anaheim. Ellis seems to be making an impression on Babcock though with his hard work and determination to make the team so I think Ellis will replace Cleary if he can't go. Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Lilja Lebda - Chelios The defense is too top heavy. Lidstrom with Rafalski on defense is the same thing as Datsyuk with Zetterberg on offense. It gives us less depth on defense and leaves our 2nd pairing looking quite scary to me. Kronwall with Lilja is going to be a disaster. Kronwall is a offensive-minded defenseman who likes to join the rush and go for the big hits. That's fine if he has Lidstrom covering for him, but Lilja ain't exactly the same thing. If we want to start grooming Kronwall as the next #1 defenseman on this team, we should pair him with Lidstrom and have Rafalski with Lilja.

By "Fleishmann" you mean Tomas "I'm on my third try to make the f***in' Capitals" Fleishmann??? If he hasn't made the Caps yet, and with how s***ty that roster has been since he got there, i'm not too worried about him coming back to bite us in the ass.

He didn't play in last nights game. He will play in the next game for sure though.

Haha...Rory!!! Of all the places he could wind up, why on earth would Philadelphia be the place to give him a try-out? Haven't they recognized their failures on defense with Rathje and Hatcher? Big, immobile defenseman do not work in this league.
