It seems odd to me that a guy who is theoretically just coming into the prime years of his career and has proven to be worthy of 30-goal potential, along with ideal size, has been traded twice already early in his career. You could chalk it up to simply a financial decision in both cases, especially in Dallas, but maybe there is something about this guy that just doesn't mesh well in a dressing room. Completely skeptical on my part.

scenario: if McLellan gets fired, bring him back as PP coach ?
WhiteLightning91 replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
Pretty sure our PP problems have a lot more to do with the retirements of one Lidstrom, Rafalski, and Holmstrom than McLellan. I find it hard to believe that Todd McLellan is simply that much smarter at organizing a PP system than Renney. -
Will Mantha join GR after the QMJHL playoffs?
WhiteLightning91 replied to trule23's topic in General
I'm pretty sure the difference between the DeKeyser and Mantha situation in regards to GR is the fact that Mantha plays major junior and DK was playing college. The CHL "protects" their assets a bit more than the NCAA. I have no proof to back up this statement. -
Has anyone ever come across the exact reason why the league considers diving a match penalty? I've never actually heard anyone from the league asked by someone in the media outright why that is the case with the diving rule. Which really bugs me. I mean, logically it simply does not make an iota of sense. Someone had to embellish a situation to get a call, implying the situation wasn't an offense at all in its organic form. #noideawhatisgoingon

I don't know boys. I feel like a lot of decisions that have been made in the past 18 months have been dropped on Gillis' head from above. They just seem like strange moves. Gillis is someone who has been involved in hockey for decades, as a player, an agent, and as a manager. I think Aquilini and his boy's club were centainly the ones who would not allow Luongo to be traded without equal value coming back in return and I believe Tortorella is a coach who makes a good PR story when hired, but doesn't fit the mold of what GIllis has been building the Canucks as a puck possession, quick skating team. I gotta think that Gillis is having his input and judgment cast aside by Aquilini.

TuneIn Radio app is what I use for listening to games, Wings or any other team. Works great.

Red Wings sign college FA Colin Campbell
WhiteLightning91 replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
No risk, all reward sort of signing. The only risk is that he will count amongst our 50+ professional contract limit as an undrafted prospect who may/may not work out rather than a traditionally drafted prospect who may/may not workout. Only those with unrelenting hatred of anything this team does due to the fact that we have fallen on hard times recently, bearing in mind that those hard times are consitent with those of every other dynasty franchise in the history of the NHL, can and will find something to complain about this signing. -

Didn't the puck cross the goal line before he got to it though? -

Maybe I'm having a brainfart considering the time, but can someone explain to me why icing was not called on the Lashoff goal? 20 years worth of hockey knowledge is currently escaping me... -
I'm still surprised at the lack of love Eaves gets around these boards and to a certain extent from management, considering they waived him. I want this guy to sign a deal similar to what Miller signed. Good on the pk, good skater, doesn't mind being a grinder, forechecks very well, responsible in his own zone, has the offensive skill set to pop in goals, good size, right-handed shot with adequate defensive awareness to play the point on the PP, and as we've seen lately he's one of our better guys in the shoutout. I would like our bottom six to consist of a miller-helm-eaves line. They have been together in the past and I really thought they were great together. Is the only knock on Eaves that he's not a prospect whom we have yet to lose our hard-on for based on unrealistic expectations certain fans place on our youth?

gdt 10/14 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Bruins 2
WhiteLightning91 replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Stevie, Bourque, and Timmy Thomas for sure. The second Wings player definitely reminds me of a Chelios image I've seen before, especially the ear guards but I'm not 100% on that guess. -
I would have given Regier the boot over Ruff to be honest. It wasn't Ruff's coaching that led to the numerous free agents leaving Buffalo as much as it was ownerships refusal to open up the checkbook. Yes, now with Pegula at the helm they are doing that, but Regier has whiffed on all of his signings since the ownership change. Not Ruff's fault that Regier has gone after players who are coming off one good season or are well-known average players, i.e. Leino, Ehroff, Regehr, Steve Ott, John Scott, etc...

I wouldn't be as worried about goalies figuring Stamkos out as I would be how St. Louis' sooner-than-later retirement affects his production. Obviously, Stamkos is the real deal, but St. Louis is the perfect compliment player for him. Those two have something special.
-
I would be against Miller being the odd man out. 3rd/4th liners who are amongst the leaders in shorthanded ice time on your team and pot 10 goals a season are ideal. Yes, the PK has terrible. But I blame that on a new coach implementing their own system the past couple years and the retirement of Lidstrom more so than a decline in Miller's abilities. He's only 28.

For sure. I highly doubt he went behind the guy's back. I just noticed people on Mlive and LGW insinuating that Smith was at fault for allowing Sheahan to use his ID when in reality we do not know whether that was the case. For all we know, Sheahan just assumed Smith would not give a damn about using his ID at the bar. People can hate on Sheahan for being irresponsible regarding his decision to drink and drive, but unless it is printed that Smith did in fact allow him to use his ID, I do not see how it is fair to criticize him.
-
Not to be devil's advocate or anything, but it is not fair to automatically assume Smith supplied Sheahan with his ID. Riley could have easily gone into his equipment bag and taken it out for the night wihtout Brendan's knowledge. Two entirely different situations.

Bring him in to back-up Howie? Gustavsson will need some pushing.

well done, sir. I'm so tired of this lazy argument. The average goals scored per game has been higher throughout Datsyuk's career than it was during Fedorov's. http://www.quanthockey.com/TS/TS_GoalsPerGame.php
-
Depends what exactly you are asking. Are we talking their entire professional careers or simply how they performed in the Winged Wheel? Based on simply their NHL careers, since that is all I have witnessed, it comes down to Fedorov and Datsyuk for me. As for Konstantinov, I believe it is because his career was cut short that he should not be in the discussion rather than because his career was cut short he should be in the discussion. Potential to win Norris' is just that, potential. Fedorov > Datsyuk. More goals, more points, faster/better skater, better playoff performer, and based on Bowman's assertion that Fedorov could have won a Norris Trophy had he played defense for an entire season, I'll give Fedorov the nod on play in his own zone as well. As for physicality, both possess(ed) the goods to give it as much as take it, but Fedorov showed this side more often. As electrifying as Datsyuk is, it's easy to forget that Fedorov possessed immense amounts of flair as well in the 90's due to how he is poo poo'd by fans because of how he left the team.

Not completely the same thing as the Penner situation, but does anyone else find it more than a little ironic that Anaheim lost another promising prospect to Edmonton? Sure, they could've lost Shultz to anyone, but it's funny to me that it turned out to be Edmonton. If Burkie was still soaking up the sun in Anaheim, we'd definitely have that barn fight between him and Lowe. Anyway, definitely cannot say the kid went where the money was or wanted to ride the coat-tails of an already contending team. Seems he simply wanted to be apart of a young, fast, talented team with the potential (until they make any noise in the playoffs, that's all it is) to be the next great team built through consistent losing and high draft picks. It seems odd to me he signed a 2-year deal. Isn't a 3-year deal pretty much a given when it comes to max entry level deals?

How much would you give up?
WhiteLightning91 replied to Manny>Ozzie(by a long shot)'s topic in General
Franzen + Howard + Ericsson/1st rounder NJ is gonna look for a trading partner that would send them a scoring winger to take Kovy's spot in the line-up. Franzen is a given. With Brodeur pretty much donezo after this contract, this is NJ's chance to grab a goaltender as well. This plus Lou's love for college players and the salary cap difference lead me to think another roster player earning a decent paycheck must be sent packing as well. Insert Jimmah. The Wings are gonna want NJ to take a contract as well off their hands after all is said and done. Ericsson's contract is based on potential and if by mid-season he's still not showing progress, he seems the most suited. The draft pick a tough one to call. NJ will have to forfeit their's this next draft so they'llbe looking to add one. After making the Finals, it makes ssense to predict their would-be first rounder won't be much different than Detroit's (knock on wood). Disclaimer: I would do this trade only if Pavel was entering his prime instead of being on the wrong end of 30. -
NHL Salary Cap Temporarily Set At $70.3 Million For 2012
WhiteLightning91 replied to Diluvian04's topic in General
Nothing, but keep in mind the fact that Parise and Suter just may not want to play for a bender team like the Blue Jackets or Oilers could make those offers irrelevant. -
Is everyone leaving Mursak off their "rosters" because they don't wanna see him back or due to forgetfulness?
-
Suter or Parise would be a beauty and a half. I'm could go wither way on Hudler. Stays or peaces out, I'm indifferent about it. Can't say he didn't have a nice regular season and an above average (for the Wings) playoff series. But I'll throw another (unrealistic) option out there. I would gladly give up a couple RFA compensation picks for Avs center Ryan O'Reilly. Sadly, COL probably is 99.9% sure they have a stud on their hands. Helm moved down to the 4th line between Miller and Eaves would be a machine once again. May mean Abbs is shown the door, but O'Reilly is younger by a couple, the same size, and uses that size to his advantage on a more consistent basis already. Fun to dream about...

Calle Jarnkrok - Does he have a chance to make next season's team?
WhiteLightning91 replied to a topic in General
Not to derail the thread, but the over-ripen strategy is something that I believe we will begin to see less of as the seasons go on. The main reason we had the luxury of leaving prospects in the minors for so long was because we could go out and have our pick of the litter free agent wise. Although we have a lot of money this summer, once the new CBA goes into effect (knock on wood), I do not see how we can continue to prolong the strategy of waiting until 24/25 years of age for our prospects to finally have more than a cup of coffee in the show. Anyone else thinking this could be correct? Opinions to the contrary welcomed, as always. Just sort of thinking aloud.
