Whenever Pierre makes a point, I will always take the opposite stance
-
I don't know why there's all the Stuart talk, the only D-man who has a remote chance of being traded is Kronwall IMO.
-
Alright, I'll be the devil's advocate on this even though I'm sure I'll be flamed. I 100% disagree, the goalies are at a huge disadvantage if he is considered "fair game". The equipment severely limits mobility and balance compared to the rest of the skaters. You also have to consider the safety of the player in question, if you start allowing players to hit goalies outside of the crease, what's stopping a player from hitting the goalie after coming out and cutting off the angle 2 feet outside of the crease in the butterfly position and then the goalie gets a career ending concussion or knee injury. The goalies will get hurt if they get hit as their equipment is not designed to take hits, and you will also be taking them out of the play making it easier for the opposition to score.

Fine, better to take that than risk another 5 years of uncertainty. Any deal past 5 years is crazy IMO
-
I like those projected lineups (if we have to play without Franzen obv)
-
I would love to see a 5 year deal
-
That sucks about Franzen, let's see what Flip can do on one of the top lines.
-
Why the hell are we even talking about Stuart? It's obvious that he will not be traded and doesn't fit into the OP.
-
The more I think about trades, the more I want to do nothing. Why trade guys when we can solve most of our problems from guys in the minors.
-
Please no to 10 years
-
Stuart hits hard though, so that's nice
-
I am glad that we are using games against the Sharks as a measuring stick and not a team like the Islanders.
-
What teams do you guys think we would be in position to trade Filppula and what would be looking at getting in return?
-
Hmmm, yes waivers is a *****
-
As mentioned before, I wouldn't mind seeing any of Abelkader, Helm, or Downey being called up and seeing what type of reaction that causes. P.S. Helm was awesome in the post-season last year and even Babcock said that he and Leino were the best players that he ever sent down, why isn't he getting more time?
-
lol, are you kidding me??? If Ovechkin or Crosby is on the table, there is no way you can turn that offer (if it's straight up).
-
It would be interesting to see how many goalie threads are started in a calendar year in LGW.
-
I think this is a problem in itself, people are looking at the past and are willing to give Ozzie the benefit of the doubt. Not saying that this is something that should be ignored completely but I think we need to eliminate some of the bias from his great play last spring and some of his past accomplishments and look at the situation on the surface and things will be clearer.

While I don't think that a trade would be a good idea since we seem to have a good mix right now and are the defending champs there are only a few players who I view as tradeable right now. Samuelsson is a guy that a lot of teams can look at for adding secondary scoring Hudler is young and has had an amazing year right now and could be a guy that is made in a big deal (again, I don't see this happening) Kronwall is young and has a ton of potential, shows flashes of it sometimes and is physical, teams may take a chance on him despite his injuries Would like to include Filppula in here but it is a high price to pay for a third line player.

He was the backup, what's your point? Also, Ms. Hockey I like your point and can see why Babcock would do that as I feel that if both goalies are playinig their A games that I would want Osgood in before Conklin, so I hope Osgood picks it up before April but if things continue the way they are I don't see how Conklin isn't #1
-
While I agree that Conklin hasn't had the greatest track record as a goaltender, I don't like how everyone writes him off so easily. Over the past 5 years, goaltending has really become erratic with who is good and who is s***ty. Just look at the following guys: Theodore, Ward, Huet, Khabibulin, Gerber, Giguere, Thomas, Roloson, Kipprusoff, etc. etc. All of these goalies have gone from MVP type play to mediocrity in recent years, so why can't a guy like Conklin do something similar? I mean look at Tim Thomas, he has had one of the highest save percentages in the last two years, did anyone even know who he was before last year? I'm not saying that Conklin should be getting a Vezina but why shouldn't we give him the reins, he seems to have deserved them. I'm sure a lot of people didn't believe in Cam Ward when they lost two straight games to Montreal and threw the young Ward in goal with no track record.
-
Oops, lol I think most people know what I meant
-
Osgood should be the backup, he fills that role well.
-
I don't believe that threads like these or about our goaltending show up only after losses. It's just that losses tend to reinforce whatever opinion people have about the subject. Even though we won the Stanley Cup last year I am sure there are people looking at certain aspects of our and not liking it. For example, I thought we would need to play more of a North American style to win the Cup (I was wrong), however, I still hold that belief as we had some really bad playoffs not too long ago where one could argue that part of the early exits were due to lack of toughness/grit

Detroit will repeat as champions Franzen is a 50 goal scorer in this league Datsyuk and Zetterberg are the best two way players in the game today Detroit has the best offense in the league Detroit has the best defense in the league Detroit's goaltending is underrated Steve Yzerman is the greatest all round hockey player of all time Datsyuk has the best hands in the league Lidstrom is still the best defenseman in the league Kronwall will replace Lidstrom once he retires Hudler will get 100 points Detroit will not lose another game all season, including the playoffs The numbers 24, 33, 30, 5, 91, 14, 25, 18 should all be retired and go into the hall of fame Osgood is one of the top 5 goalies of all time Detroit is just giving San Jose a sense of false confidence Samuelsson has a very accurate shot Lilja is the best defenseman in the league (next to Lidstrom) Mike Babcock is the best coach in the league Scotty Bowman is the greatest goalie of all time Colorado will never beat Detroit in a meaningful game and we will never lose that old rivalry
