Wings sign D Ian White to 2-year, $5.75m contract
Never_Retire_Steve replied to germanwing's topic in General
That won't even come close to replacing Lidstrom This is why I want to see this happening now. I'm sure Holland is thinking about him leaving (at least I would hope so) but we already lost Rafalski and we will be losing Lidstrom sometime in the near future. If we wait to cross that bridge when we get to it, it can be very dangerous. Look at this year's FA pool, not exactly strong for stud Dmen. However, Holland still needs to consider options outside of FA and I really hope that this is a priority the remainder of this offseason and the upcoming season. Yup, no one will replace a 7 time Norris trophy winner but we can get close and we have to consider giving up key guys that are already here. -
Don't answer. Also, my previous response was to point it out just in different works. Are you always right or do you tend to make concessions?

Who is going to replace Lidstrom though? -
Oops, I made a mistake by not asking a question after answering one. Law & Order or Criminal Minds

I don't know why coaches don't switch up their defensive pairings according to matchups more

The one thing that I like about this signing is that it dose improve our speed on the back end which is something that I felt got badly exposed against San Jose's speedy forwards in the playoffs. I would still love to see a speedy top end guy (especially since Lidstrom's future is always so uncertain every offseason) -
Wait a second, Kenny didn't sign Richards? Wait another second, Richards didn't accept a discount to come to a contender like Detroit? Wait a minute, Detroit wasn't even in Richards' top 5 choices?? I don't believe that by reading previous posts/topics on him before July 1, I'm still confident that Richards will come here at a cap hit of about $6 million

I would like to see Stuart over Ericsson on the PP -
After the White discussion I'm not so sure this is even a relevant discussion

On second thought, I like this line up

I don't know why Stammer wouldn't want to stay after what Steve has done with turning that team around and they have 3 other pieces of the puzzle firmly in place with St. Louis, Vinny and Hedman there.

OMG, people actually think being the GM of the Yankees would be hard? Who else do you think manages a team well? Man U. in the premiership?

kostitsyn: will the wings make a run at him?

Would rather spend the money on a top end defensiveman -
Lidstrom - Stuart Kronwall - Ericsson White - Commodore/Kindl Hmmmmmm

Well, I guess we need Dmen but I certainly hope this doesn't mean we are done looking to upgrade our blue line. I would still love to see some sort of move that got us a #1 or #2 Dmen, who knows.... maybe he can be used as trade bait too. -
Well the White signing definitely puts even further doubt of the Wings acquiring Yandle
-
White signed?

Trade deadline day because hockey is in full swing and there is a lot more excitement if you are a contender. Also, summer is made for being outside for me.

I like how people assume that Holland is just sitting on his ass doing nothing. I mean do people honestly believe that he hasn't actively pursued a lot of the FA's that have signed elsewhere? I mean there are 29 other teams in the mix and most often than not they have a more attractive package that they can offer that the Wings can't (depending on the FA of course). For example, 1 guy I thought we could go after and possibly overpay a bit was Wisniewsky but obviously the deal the Jackets offered was out of the Wings league so they weren't willing to pay the price.

Kings my early favorite to take the West title but should be close again with Vancouver
-
I like the idea except I don't think we would need to give up 2 first rounders.
-
Huh? I think we should try and target a really high end Dman over the next year but ideally this offseason. There's not much left on the FA market that looks very attractive so what are our best trade options? I would really like JBo because he probably has good trade value ATM but he has a NTC so what are some of our options for a premier Dman right now?

I enjoy beer that makes ladies appear more attractive
-
I would be really disappointed if this is our team going into next season but something tells me we will acquire another defenseman before the offseason is over
-
lol of course (how is that not possible?) The person below me gets sick of the "mob mentality" that exists here on LGW.
