I don't really know what I'm trying to justify here, because I agree with you that Detroit generally doesn't re-sign players and then trade them later on in the year.

Avery really loved Detroit too, I remember when he got traded and hearing a radio interview and he was bawling his eyes out when he found out he was going to the Kings.
