Why is everyone listing their second favorite team? The topic was "Who is you favorite team". Mine is the Wings, Wings, Wings The rest of the league is 2nd favorite.....

I am willing to bet the Pens don't even make the playoffs next year, even playing in the weaker east. On the other hand, barring injuries the Wings should have an AWESOME season and I can't wait until hockey starts. This time I get to see them much more as I am moving back to the 'burbs in a few short weeks. CAN'T WAIT!!!

Don't forget about the Detroit Vipers. They led the IHL in attendance every year in existance before the league folded several years ago. I went to MANY games as Wings were impossible to get. The fans were into the games just as much as the Wings fans are. I don't know why they folded when the AHL absorbed 6 or 7 teams, but I am sure it was because they didn't think the state could support the Wings, Vipers & Griffins.

I posted this before but people seem to forget about the Spirit (CBA), Panthers (USFL), Drive (AFL), Vipers (IHL), Turbo (MLL). All these teams won titles and several won the respective league titles in the inaugural season. What city has won the most titles in the last.... 10 years? Boston (Det 2nd) 15 years? Detroit 20 years? Detroit 25 years? Detroit Of course this is off the top of my head but if someone can correct this, correct me. Of course it doesn't include UM & MSU which have won quite a few other titles. <slow response from server caused the double post>

The 1st time I heard the edited version linked to the Wings was in '95 after the Wings beat the Hawks on Kozlov's OT series clincher to make the finals. I know this for a fast as I was on my way home from a class and I only took classes from Sept 94 - Jul 95 (or whatever 3 semesters spans).

I, like you, am tired of hear about the "incrdible Orr goal". The puck was shot long before he was upended. I would say Val's & Z's goals were 2 of the greatest in Wings history from the point of "unbelieveable", if not all-time in NHL history

While I think 68 wins is a bit too much, I do think they have a legitimate shot to break BOTH the single season win and point records. Since the lockout ended, they have averaged a 54-19-11 record. They averaged 54 wins a year and in the 3 years since lockout, only lost 56 games total (in reg). They have virtually the same players as they did except Dom. If they only won 1/2 of the games in the longest slump in 20 years, they hit 60 wins. My prediction days before the schedule comes out (I read July 16th somewhere) is this..... 64-13-5 which gives them 133 points. Like another poster said, it is the 16 wins after the regular season that count.

Obviously this "contest" isn't about the last year in sports. Don't forget about 1. The Drive's 4 titles in their 6 years of existance (2 losses in the championship game). 2. The Michigan Panthers 1st USFL title. 3. The Detroit Spirit had the 1st CBA title. 4. The Detroit Turbo had the 1st MLL title 5. The Shock's 2 titles in 3 (?) years. Add those to the Pistons, Wings & Tigers titles in the last 40 years, what city comes close? Since Ann Arbor is one of the 20 finalists, you can't count the numerous titles for U-M in football, basketball & hockey.

That is f***in' hilarious!!!

Why are they trashing him? Usually the media trashes an athlete that takes more money over a chance at a ring. He takes a chance for a ring and all of a sudden he "didn't do the right thing". I sense A LOT of jealousy over the fact we got him and a month after winning it all, the Wings are heavy favorites to repeat. I didn't think we had a shot at him seeing as Lids was going to be the highest paid. Hopefully he signs long term and gets a few more cups for the Wings.
-
Max McNab & Al Langlois I have a 2 part question.... What team had the worst record to win the cup and their record?
-
Does anyone think NHL Network will show it? I think when the Pistons won in '04, one of the Fox Sports channels showed their parade. I will be searching!!
-
I have ALWAYS liked Ozzie. He doesn't have that "holier than thou" attitude that other goalies have. He definately deserves a HOF spot and if he gets another 1 or 2 cups..... A retired number to the rafters!
-
If he did it would have been the worst call EVER. Had his eye on it the whole time.
-
Just change it to NoHoweFedsorLids

I was going to do overnight shipping and saw it was almost $20 for it. I just tool the cheap route and will get it next week. Still won't take away from this great night. The great thing about this night........20 years ago today (June 4th) I graduated high school.

He is a biggest douchenozzle-asshat EVER!!!!
-
I was beginning to think it was only me. f*** Bettman. If it wasn't for the Wings, hockey as we know it may not exist.
-
Remember in either game 1 or 2 when they kept going back to Mellon arena for "Mellon Vision" (not a bad term)? Why couldn't they do a shot of Joe Vision? WTF?
-
Crosby said the series was a close one. What series was he playing in? The series wasn't as close as the scores indicated although it was a great series.
-
What's the difference between an incidental knee-on-knee and a high stick that clips someone after the owner of the stick gets hit hard? That would be highsticking. Should have been knee-on-knee incidental or not.
-
The Wings should have had AT LEAST 6 more power play attempts. The refs screwed (can't really say fuqed) over AGAIN. Let's beat the bastards in s***tsburg!!!
-
I already told my boss I am leaving by 830. He is a Pens fan (not really just he is from PIT and ragging on me esp about the 1 win). I can't wait.....The day is here!! Too bad I won't be able to see the lockerroom celebrations......at least not until they are on YouTube!

Who cares if he is a product of the system. No one says Roy, Brodeur or any other goalie that played on great teams was a product of the system. With a good year he goes all the way to the top 10 (easily) in wins. Of the top 50 in all time wins, he is #7 in GAA. If he wins cup #3 and plays a few more years and has normal Ozzie numbers, I think he will be a definate HOF candidate. No questions asked...
