I don't like the top 3 teams getting the top 3 seeds (unless they really are the top 3 seeds). The difference a few weeks ago between 3rd & 11th seed was 1 or 2 points. I think the league should get rid of the conference affiliation for the playoffs and seed them 1 thru 16. That way, there would be no guaranteed positions as you are ranked leaguewide.

The person who started the octopus tradition is a great-uncle of mine, on my dad's side. I never knew him as he passed long before I was born.

The 2 bad calls or non-calls (Lidstrom's goal and the net rebound goal) may make the Wings that more angry and pissed at everyone. I just saw the replay on NHL Network and Mickey's play-by-play said it all. The fans seem to be getting into it alot more than earlier in the year. I believe they have sold out the last several games, haven't they? It just seems that when we started losing D-men is when the streak started. If any other team had the streak the Wings had, they might miss the playoffs completely. Yet, we are still up by 3 points with 2 games at hand. It is hard to imagine them going through a streak like this as the last time it happened, I was barely out of high school and in The Corps. The last 16 games I am going to say they will win 12 or 13 games and finish with 55-20-7 which would give them 117 points. Afterall, they are SUPPOSED to dominate withing their division, right?

NO.....he is on our side of the blueline. THAT was a funny caption....

What I mean by taken out was that the goalie was knock on his ass causing him to leave an empty net. He was trying to play the puck and a Viper player checked the opponent into the goalie. Funniest play I remember, at least in person.

Does anyone have any lonks to what the league has said about this? I haven't read or heard anything about it.

The why didn't Kunitz get called for interference when he hit Ozzie upside the head with his knee leading to a goal? How many times has Homer been called for interference when the goalie was OUT of the crease? If a goalie leaves the crease he should be fair game. I remember going to a Vipers game a number of years ago and a Vipers player checked his opponent into the goalie, knocking him over and passing out front to a teammate for an "empty netter". The play was hilarious and I loved it.

Watch the reply in slow motion. The puck was already past Giguere when he stuck his face in Homer's ass. It was damn close to being over the red line when he "interfered" with him.

Damn browser was hanging and hit add 3 times.....sorry....just pissed at the damn refs........ (What are you talking about? I don't see three posts. Signed, Turkey )

Being out of MI and seeing the game on Nat'l TV, I almost threw a shoe at the TV. That was the biggest horses*** make-up call (power play advantages) I have ever seen. did anyone bother to watch it in slow motion? Gigure's face ran into Homer's ass AFTER the puck past him up. Horses***, Horses***, Horses***, Horses***, Horses***, Horses***, Horses***, Horses***, Horses***!!!!

Can they get that elusive 10 game winning streak? I mean their next 2 games are against 2 or the 3 worst teams in the league. I can remember about 3 or 4 9 gamers in the last decade or so. If they hit it, they would be at 90 points and all but locked up the division title

Even if they did do this (all Ws a 1-goal game), they would STILL be tops in differential.

Here is an excerpt taken from today's edition........ "The Red Wings won their 40th game of the season, Saturday, coming in just their 54th outing. Their rate of success is phenomenal and has them 17 points ahead of the second-best team in the Western Conference (through Saturday) and 16 points ahead of the second-best team overall. That's tremendous separation when you consider that the deviation between any two teams that are second through 30th in the standings is two points except for a four-point gap between the 28th and 29th place teams. But even this late into the season and even after seven consecutive victories, the team that the Red Wings cannot shake is the Detroit Red Wings … the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings. That squad set an NHL record with 62 wins. This year's squad is dominating the present, but is just able to keep pace with the past. This year's Red Wings have won their past seven games. Four victories ago, the team caught up with the 1995-96 team's pace. (Early in this season, the Red Wings were ahead of that pace, but a loss in Game 46 finally saw them drop behind.)" So, if they play their divisional games like they should, they have a very good shot at this. Hopefully after that, win 16 more.

I was just looking at this stat and the Wings BY FAR AND AWAY is the best in this stat. After tonight's game they are a +69 which is 1.28 per game. The next best is the Sens with a +27. Simply awesome and hopefully they can do this for another 4.5 months.

Also, in the last 33/34 games, the Wings have 7 shut outs. Thanksgiving Eve against the Blues to last night. Pretty impressive.

Should the NHL have first round byes in the playoffs?
pjgj13 replied to ProfessorLidstrom5's topic in General
Instead of seeding the teams in each conference, seed them 1 - 16 and then that way, you have a good shot at the top 2 teams overall in the finals. Also, no automatic berths for winning your (weak) division. Teams are seeded by points, then games then wins. As of now it would be.... Wings/Coyotes Sens/Canucks Sharks/Preds Canadiens/Aves Stars/Bruins Fkyers/Devils Wild/Ducks Pens/Flames Use the same bracket the NCAA uses for their tourney. So if it happens 1 vs. 2 will happen only in the finals. -
I just want to know where winter is where I am. I live about an hour from Philly and since the weekend before Thanksgiving I have had MAYBE 6" of snow. We have had more days in the 50s than days where it has snowed. Hell, I had 3 days in the 60s and one of them was nearly 70 in Jan. The next week we are supposed to be in the mid 40s+. I haven't even brought out a winter coat at all this year. I predict we will get hit by one of those Nor'easters by the end of Feb.

Damn, that was quick. I thought it would be a good one. Good job!

Here is a GOOD trivia question.....I came upon it by accident and thought it would be a great one.... Every number from 0 - 99 had been taken in NHL history except one (prior to 06 - 07 season). This last unform number was worn for the 1st time ever on opening night of the 06 - 07 season. Which uniform number was the LAST one to be taken, and who wore it?

So did Pavel until last years playoffs......

Whoever had the "big unit".....

Maybe that is WHY he didn't win any awards. In his prime, he competed against the likes of Hasek, Roy, Brodeur. It is a TEAM sport, not individual. While the individual awards are great, I am willing to bet ANYONE will give up their award to have their name engraved forever. Yzerman was voted to only 3 individual awards in the regular season in his career. He will be a unanimous inductee next year when he is eligible. It is just like saying Tom Brady set all those records and had an undefeated season, but if they don't go undefeated in the playoffs, who cares about the records.
