Vlady should be in that list of defensmen for the Wings... Tragedy aside he would have been one of the all-time best defensmen, and people sometimes forget he was the stopper on that first cup team not Lidstrom...

Losers on Friday still have a Bronze Medal game...

2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)

"?" USA isn't one of the top 2 favorites to win a gold, heck not even top 5 before the Olympics started... Canada was and in their house... How can the USA team choke? They have already surpassed all pre-tourney predictions by taking the #1 out of their bracket... Team Canada on the other hand... -

That was the greatest empty netter I have ever seen... -

Why are people so surprised that most of us USA born Red Wings fans are pulling for USA? -

Canada playing undisciplined hockey... Looks like USA has taken control of the tempo... -
Brandon Dubinsky calling Sidney Crosby a little baby
Wingseroo replied to Finnish Wing's topic in General
Didn't Crosby throw his teammates under the bus his rookie year in the press? -
Shouldn't giving up good scoring chance rebounds actually hurt his SV% by giving higher percentage opps to the opponents? He is what he is a great rookie Goalie on a team trying to find its identity....

I have never seen Ovechkin accused of not playing with emotion... Oh wait, you were calling the guy that is the 2nd best player on his team the best player in the league... I get it... -
You realize that Rafalski is American right? In fact from Michigan? Why would he sing the Canadian National Anthem?

I think it was more like comparing himself to Flip... I like Flip... Teams need guys like Flip... Truth is I think Hudler is a better offensive player then Flip is a 2 way guy... You need both types... Lets revisit this in 10 years and see what happens... I think Huds comes back to the NHL at some point just because it is the NHL... I then think he will probably be a solid 60-80 pts a year guy for some team for a few years... I think Flip has more longevity the type of player he is, but I think 28-34 years old Hudler might shine more...

Do not compare Zetts deal with this one... The difference in pay at the back end of this one is a lot different... I said when he got signed by Chicago looked like a 6 or so year deal with a buyout or retirement... Zetts will play out his contract or have money added depending on the market in a few years... These deals are nothing alike...

In the real world a black player with skills like Ovechkin would probably create a small wave of black interest in Hockey if they played in a USA urban center... Iginla was that good if he had started and produced young in Philly or NY... He didnt though... Grier is not going to be the Hockey Tiger Woods playing in Detroit if he did...

Anyone that doesnt have Kipper rated as one of the better goalies in the league is still sore from a playoff loss 5 years back... I mean honestly when you try knocking a guy down by saying "Well he is no Brodeur", I mean you are comparing him against the best goalie of the last 30 years... Roy wasnt as good as Brodeur... And Ed Belfour was a choke artist... Funny how a Turco would follow him in net at Dallas... I have 2.04 GAA average, and yet cant beat Detroit... They must be related... Ok so Kipper is not Brodeur (but then who is?), but it can be argued he is in company with pretty much the rest of the NHL's top goalies...

I think the Wings might have drafted Stevie Y junior this year... Look at Ferraro's bio... 5'11" 167 with speed and offensive skills... Guy that should have went in the middle of the 1st round, but dropped down because he is not 6'2" 200+... It all takes time though... Heck Yzerman would probably get drafted mid to late first round these days with the premium on size...

When Kovalchuk puts a franchise on his shoulders like Ovechkin and takes them from basement to elite with his presence... Then he will be worth Ovechkin numbers... BTW yes if I were a GM and could have any one player to build a franchise around Ovechkin would be my guy...
-
Oulahen is a little more versatile I think, might make a better 13th man option... Other then that I would say go with youth and upside... If one makes the team that is...

People around here somtimes seem to forget that Howard was considered a few years back the top North American Goalie prospect, but teams shied away from him because they didnt think he could be Signed away from Maine... The Wings selected him and took there chance and Howard did sign right before the Wings were about to lose his rights and he would have went back into the draft pool... I am just saying that at one time he was about the most sought after amateur goalie around... It was the whole college vs pro thing same thing that happens in baseball where a top 10 talent drops down in the draft due to the ability to sign them... He may fail, but then he may get it done... People seem to forget sometimes that a few years back he was the best known prospect in the organization...

Ahh, the luxury of Shanny in his prime... A guy that could score 40+G and drop them with the best of them...
-
OMG, I actually agree with a name you threw out there... Malhotra would have to play power forward for now, also can be a good checking line center... Of all the FA's I liked him the most, can't understand why CBJ has not resigned a kid like this...
-
The problem is that if you put them together it reduces the the talent on 2nd line... Is it better to be a 1 line or 2 line team... This is hard because we are used to 4 line teams...

Not recognizing that Chicago is on the ascent while the Wings are scrambling a bit this off season is not being realistic... If I were laying money down on a bet I would take Chicago to win the Division... I am not betting on it so I am hoping the Wings take another crown in the division... What I expect as the most likely outcome and what I hope are not the same thing... That's not being negative its being realistic... I hope for one thing, but recognize another... Goal tending could still bite the Blackhawks in the ass, Toews & Kane could suck, amongst a million other things... And it is not always bad to be a bit of an underdog, could light a fire under some Red Wing players asses... That doesn't change the fact that everyone will have the Blackhawks picked to win the division before the season starts...

Logic dictates that this will be a weaker team then last few years... Sometimes logic is proven wrong, but to argue the Wings are not weaker today as a team then they were a few weeks ago is not logical...
-
The problem is that we will be replacing them with lesser or at least less developed players... I am actually fine with the youth movement... I think it will pay off down the road... To the overly positive people who are expecting every player to have a better season then last year that is no different then the folks that think every player will have a worse year... Fact is on paper the Wings have fallen behind Chicago... That is on paper we will see how the season turns out, but to say this team is not at least starting the year weaker then last year is just lying to yourself... They might be stronger by the playoffs, but not at the start... Maybe everyone gels and is one of those perfect years.... I am thinking like 97 pts, 2nd in division, and a 4 to 6 seed... That is what I see on paper... What will actually be I do not know... And the depth that has carried this team for years is now depleted... If Zetts or Pavel get hurt this year for any long stretch it will be a tough season...
