To make it a COMPLETE grand slam of an off-season -

I really wanted Rolston, but there was no way this team could give him a 4 year contract at that price($20mil). I'd like to see maybe a Naslund or Avery or Nagy or perhaps...SATAN . One or two of those guys would be a nice addition.

Since Barry Mulletrose has been with ESPN, he's been constantly drooling over overrated scrubs like Marty Reasoner and Sammy Kapanen. You'd think those two would be his main targets.

    Crazy Trade Idea

I just read on spector's site that Olli Jokinen is on the trading block. Spector says the asking price is believed to be two young NHL players and a 1st round pick. The value of young players in the Wings system has to be at an all time high right now, amongst GM's around the league. They(GM's) must be thinking: Zetterberg,Datsyuk,Franzen,FIlppula,Helm...."what other gems do these guys have in their system"? So here is my trade proposal. To Florida Hudler,Kopecky and this years 1st round pick To Detroit Olli Jokinen Jokinen is singed until the summer of 2010. His salary per season is 5.2 mil. Thoughts?

    2008 NHL Entry Draft GDT

When I read this article yesterday, I knew the Wings were gonna draft a goalie. It also talks about how they will start drafting more N.American players in later rounds, so they can develop them in college for up to 4 years. Red Wings hoping to draft good fit for system by Ansar Khan Thursday June 19, 2008, 7:58 PM DETROIT -- Their Stanley Cup championship reaffirmed that the Detroit Red Wings don't need to alter the puck-possession style of hockey they've played for more than a dozen years. They will continue looking for players who are a good fit for that system in this weekend's NHL entry draft, forwards who skate well and defensemen who can move the puck quickly. They also need to draft a goaltender for the future. The Red Wings have the 30th and last pick in the first round tonight at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. The remaining six rounds are Saturday morning/afternoon. Detroit does not have a second-round pick, which it dealt to the Los Angeles Kings to acquire defenseman Brad Stuart, but has each of its selections in the third through seventh rounds. Feeling they have good depth in the organization at forward and defense, assistant general manager Jim Nill said the club isn't targeting a specific position with its first pick. "We're sticking to our philosophy," Nill said. "It would be nice to add some size, but it's a fine line. You're going to get to a point where there's too good of a player there with skill, and to add that player with size might not be worth the risk." The Red Wings, in each of the last two drafts, have used their top pick on a North American player, forward Cory Emmerton in 2006 and defenseman Brendan Smith last year. They had taken a European with their first selection in 11 of the previous 13 drafts. They will still select skilled players, regardless if they are European or North American, with their first few picks. But the post-lockout rule change in 2005 requiring teams to sign European picks within two years, just like major junior players, has prompted the Red Wings to alter their late-round strategy. Now they're more apt to select a U.S. college player, whom they can wait four or five years to make a decision on, as opposed to a European. "The college kids have become the late-round choice now, where it used to be Euros," Nill said. "Used to be in that sixth, seventh, eighth round, you'd pick a Russian kid or a Swedish kid and you'd roll the dice because you knew you had forever (to sign him). If you're deciding between a kid in juniors, Europe or college, and they're equal, you're probably going to go the college route because you have more time." The Red Wings have a good stable of young defensemen in their system -- Jonathan Ericsson, Jakub Kindl, Derek Meech, Kyle Quincey, Logan Pyett and Smith. And they have several promising forwards, including Darren Helm, Ville Leino, Justin Abdelkader, Mattias Ritola, Evan McGrath, Jan Mursak, Dick Alexsson and Emmerton. But they are thin in net, where they have only two prospects -- Jimmy Howard might serve as Chris Osgood's backup next season, and Daniel Larsson will arrive from Sweden to play in Grand Rapids (AHL). "We'd like to add a goalie to our prospect list," Nill said. Nill said it is unlikely they will trade up in the first round because it would require relinquishing an asset they don't want to move. But, there is always a possibility of moving down, if they are able to secure another pick, like they did in 2006. "If you can trade down to get two picks you might do that," he said.

    Olli Jokinen to Phoenix

Yesterday Spector reported they were interested in A puck moving defensemen and a picK. The previous day it was two young players and a pick. It was also rumoured Ottawa would send SPezza and Boumeester for one of Florida's D-men and Jokinen. So maybe fowards were not out of the picture. I got the Boumeester part mixed up, he would've been going the other way in the deal. Spezza and Meszaros for Jokinen and Boumeester

Don't put words in my mouth. I never said I was annoyed with management. I just threw out an idea. I'm the armchair guy? Well who the f#ck are you? Mr. Knowitall Hockey Elite? What makes you a non-armchair guy? This is a site for fans to discuss the team, the players and ideas they have. What is wrong with that?

The Wings could've packaged some defensemen in a deal with Hudler. No they wouldn't have had to give up Kronwall.

    Olli Jokinen to Phoenix

I think Franzen still has some upside. How much more upside does Jokinen have at 30? I understand Jokinen is a great player, but how much more can he improve?

    Olli Jokinen to Phoenix

Maybe Hudler,Lebda, Meech or Quincy and 30th pick

    Olli Jokinen to Phoenix

That's pretty weak pal. You forgot to mention I threw in the #30th pick. Florida takes the #49th pick and a couple of above average defensemen by league standards. Florida was clearly desperate to move him. Which was something I was trying to point out. The Hockey Rating Hudler #182 Kopecky #547 the 30th pick! vs. Ballard #219 Boynton #412 (even Lilja and Lebda are rated higher than this guy lol ) and the 49th pick, HA Bottom line is, the Wings could've got this guy without giving up Filppula, Franzen or Kronwall.

MINNEAPOLIS STAR-TRIBUNE: Michael Russo reports there appears to be a difference of opinon between Wild GM Doug Risebrough and Brian Rolston over the latter's market value. Risebrough believes discussions on a new contract will continue but wouldn't reveal what he feels is Rolston's value. As for Olli Jokinen, Russo reports multiple sources claim Risebrough is very interested in the Panthers center but is unwilling to part with a young, up-and-coming player to land him. SPECTOR'S NOTE: It's believed the Panthers want a good puckmoving defenseman plus at least a first round pick as part of the return for Jokinen. At that steep price they might not find much of a market despite the obvious interest in the talented Finnish center.

    Crazy Trade Idea

I'll agree that your projection of Kopecky being nothing more than a 15g and 20a guy in his prime. That seems reasonable. However, I will note that in 2005 in Grand Rapids he did notch 72 points. I doubt he in all his garbageness did that by accident. He does have some scoring ability. Whether that fully translates in the NHL we'll have to wait and see. Jokinen didn't have great numbers his first few seasons in the NHL. I wonder what people projected him to be in the early stages of his career. Now on to your main point about the trade idea. "In Short, would you trade your team captain and leading point getter for a forward with max potentiol of 50-60 points but ispureley one dimensonal and is not physical at all along with a slow developing player, whos type of play make him as expendeble as sticks, and a s***ty first rounder? NOPE" It's not as simple as you make it sound. Florida didn't come to the table and say "it's time to trade Jokinen and let's make sure we get the maximum value in a deal. We are so sorry to have to let this honest model citizen go. Any team would be so lucky to have him they will give anything to get him." That's not what going on here. This situation is more like "F#ck you trade me, I have 3 years left on my contract, but it sucks here, f#ck you trade me". You have a disgrutal player who is tired of losing and wants out. This is the type of situation where a player will sit out of training camp will hold out until he is traded. Florida now has less bargaining chips to deal with.

I just found a website that ranks every nhl player. They have Hudler(182) only 20 spots behind Filppula(162). http://www.thehockeyrating.com/index.php?rank=1 You can check for player rankings by team. It's much easier that way, because the list is huge!

    Crazy Trade Idea

Brad Stuart at the time of that trade was nowhere near the player he is now. Wayne Primeau is scrub and had nowhere near the potential as Kopecky does at this stage. Sturm is a decent player and I think Hudler has the potential to be as good if not better than him eventually. So I'll play your game here. Thorton 10 for Primeau 4 with a potential 5 Sturm 7.5 with a potential 8 Stuart 6 with a potential 8 Jokinen 9-9.5 for 1st round pick 6.5 with a potential 9 Hudler 6.5 with a potential 8-8.5 Kopecky 4.5 with a potential 7 To me based on potential. The Wings/Panthers deal would be better.
