Holland: Free Agent Shopping is Probably Done

Holland is playing mind games with agents. You can clearly see it with certain words he's putting out in the media. "We would like to add a top-six forward, but we're probably not going to be able to because of what's on the market," "so we're not looking to add anybody significant for more than a two-year deal" Sounds to me like he's using the media to knock the market prices and contract lengths down. He also basicly called every player left on the market a non top six foward July 5, 2007 Wings want veteran forward TheFourthPeriod.com With many of the league's top free agents locked up to new contracts, the Red Wings want to sign a veteran forward with size before it's too late, reports the Detroit Free Press. According to the paper, Wings GM Ken Holland is scouring the market for a proven forward. Among the remaining free agents that might be of interest to the Wings, Mike Comrie (gone), Bill Guerin (gone) and Michael Peca led the list. The Detroit Booth News reports the Wings have just over $7 million of available salary cap space. Despite both Geurin and Comrie gone, Holland is still looking for a vet, But he wants one at a reasonable price with nomore than a two year deal.

    Official: Hasek signs 1-year deal

A little crazy, but the guy is a TEAM player. Gotta love that.

Would Jeff O'Neil be a good fit?

If not a Guerin would a guy like Jeff O'Neil be a good fit on our team? A couple other UFA forwards I was thinking about as well. Maybe Mike York? or Adam Hall?

    Dustin Penner?

http://www.nhlnumbers.com/ana.html Like I said if Niedermayer retires, that's an additional 6.7 more more they'd be under the cap.
  9. Johnny Diamonds

    Dustin Penner?

I thought about this as well. But looking at the Ducks situation they're in great shape. Including the Bert and Schinds signings the Ducks current cap Number is 47.4. Now if Niedermayer hangs it up thats an additional 6.7 million more they would be under the cap. It would take a huge offer like 7-10 Mil to pry Penner away from the Ducks without them trying to match.

    Cap Question

Seems Bettman wants to make the NHL like the NBA. He needs to install the Larry Bird type rule in the NHL. Where you can exeed the cap to re-sign your own players. You would have to pay the luxury tax, match a dollar for every dollar over the cap.

    Raycroft to Detroit?

Yeah because Jimmy Howard is a proven NHL goalie and has a Cup under his belt to prove it.

My final two free agent requests

Speaking of RFAs would or could the Ducks match any offer made to Dustin Penner?
  13. Johnny Diamonds

Wings sign (G) Adam Berkhoel, (D) Brad Ference

Sammy scored 20 goals last season, 3 playoff goals, his salary is 1.2mil a year through 05/09. There isn't any chance Holland will let him go and neither would I.

    Raycroft to Detroit?

Gerber may be available too. I read on thefourthperiod That the Sens are looking to free up some cap space and one of the names mentioned was Gerber. I'd rather have Gerber as a plan B than Raycroft!!! Some above siad LA offered a two year 10Million$ deal. Which makes me kinda believe Dom could be looking for 5-6 million for one year and there is noway Kenny will ante up that kinda dough for him.

    Can we finally relax?

Ok how about this. Seems how the Ducks are blowing their wad all over the place and nabbing our players. how about the Wings atleast try this. Dustin Penner is a RFA his current salary is like a league minimum 450,000. Say the Wings give him an reasonable offer sheet for both parties (Wings&Penner) and offer him in the range of 2-4million per season for two years. Let's see if we can either get a rising young star or push the Ducks closer to the ceiling by forcing them to match our offer!!!

    Bruins looking to dump salary

This could be the answer to our top winger void. Link July 3, 2007 Bruins looking to dump salary TheFourthPeriod.com If the Bruins are going to sign any free agents this summer, they're first going to have to dump some salary, reports the Boston Herald. Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli confirmed this to the paper, leading to speculation that the team is trying to trade winger Glen Murray and his $4.15 million salary. If the Bruins are unable to shed some salary, they'll likely remain quiet this summer. The Bruins are believed to be interested in the likes of Bill Guerin, Brendan Shanahan and Karel Rachunek.

    Bruins looking to dump salary

If we aquired him we'd still have enough left just under 4 mill to sign Dom. Plus Murray's contract expires in two years so it will not hinder the re-signing of Hank................

Wings still looking for a depth Defensemen

"Holland said he has about $8 million to spend on four players -- Hasek, restricted free-agent forward Jiri Hudler, a top-six free-agent forward and a depth defenseman. Defenseman Danny Markov rejected a contract offer from the Wings last week at the entry draft in Columbus and is not expected to return. Holland will continue exploring the market for a second-tier forward. Players still available as of Sunday night included former Wings Slava Kozlov and Brendan Shanahan, Michael Nylander, Dainus Zubrus, Alexei Yashin, Ladislav Nagy and Petr Sykora. "We're done as far as big money goes,'' Holland said. "If we're going to do something on defense, maybe it's a month from now. You're always looking for more size. Ideally, you'd like to say we're going to get bigger, but it's easier said than done.'' Roman Hamrlik Go get him Kenny!!!

Wings still looking for a depth Defensemen

I agree with the others about Zubrus and so does TSN "Has a huge frame and knows how to use it to protect the puck. Owns a nifty set of hands and a nose for the net. Still displays untapped offensive upside." If he came here and played on the line with Dats, there is no question about his untapped offensive upside. That cherry will surely get popped.

Wings still looking for a depth Defensemen

Wasn't Markov the "depth Defensemen" Holland picked up last year? If he fiinds another gem like that at a reasonable price, I don't see how that would be a problem.
  21. Johnny Diamonds

Wings still looking for a depth Defensemen

Last year his salary was 2.2 Mil, I'm not sure Holland would be willing to pay him that kind of money.

Who will challenge the Wings for Central title?

Both the Blues and Hawks are still shopping, too early to say IMO.
