NHL Rejects Kovalchuk's Contract
Johnny Diamonds replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
You wouldn't have these kind of looong contracts if a proper soft salary cap and luxury tax was in place. Bettman is a moron, it's hard to believe this guy was David Stern's understudy. -
NHL Rejects Kovalchuk's Contract
Johnny Diamonds replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
This is bulls***, if the NHL will not allow contracts like this then they at least need to make the salary cap a soft cap with a luxury tax. -
You're right, he's a good player but he's far too close to that $7mil salary range. Exactly, when teams make stupid signings like that it really screws up the market.

I've never been sold on Meech. This whole "well you can plug him in at forward in a pinch" stuff says to me that he is not good enough to just be considered a starting NHL defenseman. There are no signs pointing to Meech being the next Red Kelly. He's what baseball fans call a AAAA player. Meaning that he's too good for the minors but not good enough to be an everyday player in the big league.

RUMOR: Wings Offer 1-year Contract to Maltby
Johnny Diamonds replied to redwingfan19's topic in General
Maybe it is a 2 way contract and that's why he isn't jumping all over it. Or he could be mulling retirement. This might be an indication that Holland is no longer confident that Modano will sign here. The Griffins have a YouTube channel. It's pretty cool to check out during the season. Griffin Vision -
Let's say Modano doesn't sign with the Wings. How about this trade? Wings send Brad Stuart to Ducks (obviously Stuart has to waive NTC, but he loves Cali right?) Wings get RFA rights to James Wisniewski, we also get Todd Marchant. Ducks get a quality minutes eating veteran defensemen and more cap room to re-sign Bobby Ryan. Wings get a young experienced defenseman who can smash people and is willing to drop the gloves. Wings also get a speedy verteran center good at killing penalties and forechecking. He also has an expiring contract after this season. Thoughts?

They're filming some movies and tv series around metro Detroit. If she's looking for work maybe she should get on the hook with her agent and see if he can find her some work around here. It's only for a year.
-
To be honest, I'd rather keep Stuart and move Rafalski but his $6mil cap hit doesn't make it as easy.
-
I like Stuart but I don't think he is untradeable, I view the Wiz as a similar player who is also younger. The Marchant thing was just to add another piece that I think would fit and contribute for just this season(sort of like a Dallas Drake type) and he has an expiring contract as well.
-
If the Blackhawks were a human body they've managed to keep their heart and brain, but they've lost some limbs and definitely their balls.
-
Whatever smartass. For a 26 year old he has a pretty good body of work. If Stuart was as "awesome" as some of you think he is, he wouldn't have been a vagabond traded by 4 teams before he ended up here.
-
Actually I was pointing out where he sent Shane Doan to dreamland, but yeah he also had to drop the gloves after he smashed Doan.
-
Marchant like I said kills penalties adds more speed to the team and he can win faceoffs. What's wrong with having another guy like that if say Modano doesn't sign here? Let me know the next time Stuart goes out and does this to a guy who was smashing our team all over the ice.

Rangers trade Voros and Hillier to Anaheim for Eminger
Johnny Diamonds replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
But with their lack of quality defensemen they aren't going anywhere. Also what's Eminger's cap hit? Does this mean they aren't re-signing the Wiz? -
Modano said in an interview while he was at the Tigers game that he will make a decision very soon. I'm confident he will have made his decision by the end of this weekend.
-
Not a bad trade off for a HIGH 1st and a 3rd. I'd take proven talent over an unknown talent anyday.
-
Evgeni Artyukhin He's big, he can hit,he can skate, he can score goals, had 9g last season. And is willing to drop the gloves.
-
I'd love to get an enforcer but I would like him to be a hockey player as well. Score some goals, hit, contribute in the playoffs when enforcing isn't needed. Oddly enough as this discussion continues, the model enforcer passed away today. I'd love to have another Probie,Kocur,DMac. Somebody like that, but they don't grow on trees.
-
Not to mention being surrounded by better players on the WIngs could help along with some increased minutes.
-
Maybe he can win some ********* faceoffs on the road in the playoffs. How about that?
-
After reading that Dallas Morning News article it sounds like it could be a possibility. It sounds like Holland's selling pitch of "We have a great chance to win as it is and an even better chance with you on board" might be to tempting for a competitor like Modano.
-
It wouldn't be more than a year. He's mulling retirement as it is.
-
Well this certainly is interesting. I heard on 97.1 earlier this evening that. He seemed flattered but was either mulling retirement if he can't find a West Coast team to play for. But those are very interesting comments(in the article above) coming directly from Modano. It would be amazing if Holland can make this happen.
-
He's not coming here. I keep reading and hearing he is very flattered by the Wings interest in him. But it sounds like he wants to be closer to his hot wife in California. The Ducks are looking for an affordable center. My guess, he ends up there.
