Does he have a two way contract like Miller? He would have to be waived, if he doesn't, once everyone comes back.
-
The Predators canceled the contract saying that the company stopped their payments. The company said they stopped their payments because the Predators dealt with competitors when they were supposed to be the preferred supplier. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AkTa...p&type=lgns

Once an official tells Toronto that he had intended to blow the whistle, no replay can over turn it. It is all this ambiguity in the NHL rules that are causing all these problems.
-
That is the point of this whole thing. Instant replay worked. It showed the puck went into the net. The whole intent to blow the whistle, again, is the thing that needs to be changed in this whole scenario. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puck_dadd...?urn=nhl,203543

It is not as simple as you might think. It would have to be wireless and on a frequency that does not receive any interference. How many times have you been talking on your cell phone and all of a sudden get static?
-
It was reviewed by Toronto. Toronto called to talk to the ref. He told them he lost sight of the puck, so he called the play dead. The officials are continously out of position for these goal calls, now. They don't want to get behind the net, because they don't want to get in the players way. So, they stand off in one corner, but as this goal, and the Anaheim one, showed, if the play is on the other side of the net, the officials can't see it.

They do have the goal cam and all the other cameras around and above the net. You can't put one below, because the ice is basically on the concrete floor. I remember way back someone had come up with lights on the perimeter of the goal mouth that would light up when the puck went in. I don't know what type of technology it used. Again, it would be very difficult to pin down the accuracy needed to say when the puck completely crossed over the goal line. You can't put anything mechanical in there, because the goalie or player backing into the net would set it off. Anything involving putting something in the puck would have to survive the freezing of the puck, not change the weight of the puck, or the normal motion of the puck. The thing that needs to be done is getting rid of rules like the intent to blow the whistle. I always go back to the NFL and their use of replay. They don't always get it to work right, but their officials are told to let the play continue, so that if a replay is needed you don't have the whistles getting in the way. They NFL always had turnovers being called back, because the officials blew the whistle too earlier. They are now told to wait until the continuation of the play has stopped. Plus, the NFL officials confer on tough calls, and they can waive off a flag. NHL officials cannot take back a penalty call. Once an officials arm is up, it's over. No matter how much he finds out from his fellow officials that he was wrong. That is why I hate the center ice officials calling things they cannot clearly see.

What size rink are they using during these Olympics?
CenterIce replied to LidstromIsASuperhero's topic in General
As far as I know, if the games are in North American cities they play on NHL sized rinks. If it is outside of North America, it is on Olympic sized rinks. -
They had something like this with the Fox Trax Puck, but because of the chip inside, they could not freeze the puck down enough and it would not settle down on the ice. Plus, it would have to be very precise in its location of the puck, going off just after it clears the line. GPS is not even that precise.

The ref should have been in a better position to where he could see the whole net. Not off to one side. They used to have the goal judges behind the net, and the officials used to confer with them on the calls. The took all of that out of the game. Replays are fine, but if you throw the intent to whistle in there, no replay system is going to work, because who knows when the ref was really going to blow the whistle. They need to be like football is now, where they let the play continue and fix it on replay once everything has worked its way out.
-
That is the issue, right there. Toronto will not over ride a officials call is he tells them he lost sight of the puck and intended to blow the whistle. They just need to teach these officials better, take the ambiguity out of the rules, and put the goal judges back behind the net.

The extensions would not kick in until next year. In no way would they count against this year. The rule that you are referring to is more toward the opposite of what you are thinking. You cannot put in place a contract this year that will make you noncompliant in future years.

You are going to find that any where. If you have a guy primaraly out there for fighting, and you are in a close game with not a lot of rough play, you want the chance to be able to score on any shift.

I got my curly fries for lunch. Thanks Z!

Datsyuk was taking his place late in the game. They needed offense more than toughness, since it was a back and forth game.

He has played well the last two games. Way to go, Jimmy!

Anyone going to Lakeside Mall to meet Helm and Leino tonight?
CenterIce replied to skyphoenix's topic in General
I would have gone if I knew that it was going on. I signed up for their mailing list, too. I didn't receive any notice. -
All I can say is that I have been a fan of Howard's ever since he was in the Frozen Four's with Maine. Winning a game 1-0, stopping about 50 shots.
