And, it is spread over the life of the deal. They over paid for McKee at the time. Now, they are having to fix that.

Says ESPN NHL Insider.

This is more than enough information for the normal letsgowings' member to determine the career pontential for NHL players, isn't it?

The post said PDT; you are thinking EDT.

This wasn't the year that everyone was worried about. That is next year. They cap is about a year behind the economic conditions.

The thing about Lebda and or Meech is that they are the only guys that really have some speed from the back end, which can back off some defensemen.
-
It seemed like these guys were going a little too fast when they bought the franchise. They already had a GM at the time, but they signed a bunch of free agents/made trades without talking to him. Then, they brought in a new GM, who had to clean up their mess.

This is not allowed. It is what Brian Burke was asking for when he was in Anaheim, but there is no "dead" money allowed in the NHL CBA.

The Wings won a Cup without Hossa and Sundin. How many times do you see on this message board. Why isn't Leino playing? Where is Helm? I think it is time the Wings figured out what some of their Grand Rapids players can do over a full season.

SCOUT COMMENTS "He keeps us in every game. He's focused, he's very confident and his physical regime has been a plus in terms of his quickness. At this stage, it appears he is (ready for the NHL). He rarely gives (up a bad goal now). That's just part of a goalie's development. When they're beating him, they're beating him with a good goal. He looks just about ready. If he finishes (strong), he will be a factor next year in Detroit." — Grand Rapids Griffins general manager Bob McNamara (January 2008) ... "If Jimmy comes in and he's obviously the best guy (for the backup job, up against Ty Conklin), then we’re going to have to re-evaluate. Jimmy is going to lose any tie. I’ve explained that to Jimmy. Our plan is that he is going to be on our team in '09-10 for sure." — Red Wings general manager Ken Holland (September 2008, Detroit Free Press). http://www.redwingscentral.com/prospects/howard.php

If I remember correctly, this was a 2nd game of a back-to-back, and I think it was when they wanted to rest Ozzie, so Howard was thrown it there with out a lot of time to prepare. We need to wait to see him after consistent starts and he gets to study the tendencies of the NHL players.

Doesn't Draper have a no trade clause?

I wish I had a penny for every time some one has said a players Red Wing career was over before it even started. I would be very rich, right now. Give the kid a chance. Goalies take a long time to develop. I know we expect instant sucess around here, especially when we good just bring in a free agent goalie and move on, but now more than ever, we need to promote from within. Will Howard have growing pains learning the NHL? Of course, every player does. Give him a chance. Then make your decision. The Red Wings have invested a lot of time into Howard, and I believe they will give him that chance. Besides, Conkin has to play for Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, or whatever team is in the Winter Classic.

Make that 3 years in a row with at least making the Conference Finals.

There is no gaurantee that Lilja will even be able to play next year. Also, it has been shown the last three years in the playoffs that they need defensive depth. If we go with this scenario, your depth really takes a hit. Lidstrom has missed more games in the last two years than in any previous time in his career. He has chronic tendinist in his elbow that could possible require surgery. This could possibly the last contract of his career. Again, you lack depth with this scenario. If Lidstom retires, once you get past Stuart and maybe Kronwall, their would be limited experience.

Rafalski is a three time Stanley Cup champion who will more than likely be Detroit's number one defenseman, when Lidstrom retires. If you trade him, you have to hope that some where soon, you could find a top 2 or 3 defenseman to pick up in free agency. Right now Detroit has the following depth (assuming Chelios leaves): Lidstrom Raflaski Kronwall Stuart Ericsson Lilja Lebda Meech Let's say Lidstrom retires and you trade Rafalski for a young defenseman: Kronwall Stuart Ericsson Lilja Lebda Meech unknown defenseman Outside of Stuart, where is the real experience there? Kronwall just came into his own last year, so he is still young in the experience department. You would still end up having to pick up a 2 or 3 defensemen in free agency, who would more than likely command Rafalski's current price, so you might as well go with what you have. I don't understand this whole mass of people that think we should get rid of Rafalski.
-
Outside of the trading Rafalski issue (which I think is idiotic), why would you want Jack Johnson. He hasn't shown he can stay healthy for long, and he got himself traded from Carolina and possibly LA. What does that say about his attitude.

From ESPN Insider: If Balsillie pays up, Coyotes relocating? The judge seems to be saying that, if Jim Balsillie is willing to pay enough money, he can buy the Coyotes franchise and move it to Hamilton. At a hearing today, Judge Redfield Baum told the NHL to set a relocation fee for the Coyotes so Balsillie can decide whether he still wants to pony up the money. According to the Sports Business Journal's Twitter, if Balsillie is still willing to buy the team after the relocation fee is tacked onto his $212 million offer for the franchise, then Baum would rule on the relocation issue. Baum said he'd been given more than 10 feet of documents, and Balsillie was the only person offering to buy the team. In addition, according to the SBJ Twitter, Baum said, "The facts don?t bear out that relocating teams through bankruptcy or otherwise wreaks havoc on pro leagues."
