Zetterberg's back was a little sore, as was Filppula's groin. As stated they both played.

Earlier Babcock had said that if Ericsson, Quincey, and Kindl don't beat out a top six defensemen, they will be sent to Grand Rapids. They want them to play and not sit. Things could change, though.

I am guessing this is for a Redwingsworld presale. The members, I used to be one, don't like it when they pay $40, and somebody who doesn't belong gets tickets via the presale. I see the sight got new providers, but it was mostly empty promises, when I was there.

Sopel and another veteran d-man coming to camp
CenterIce replied to Son of a Wing's topic in General
Paul Coffey http://www.redwingscentral.com/camps/2007-...etroitMain.html I don't see Sopel listed here. -

Former Michigan Tech captain. He has played recently for the Toronto Marlies. Howard is expected to be the main guy in Grand Rapids this year. They probably didn't list him, because he won't be challenging for a spot, since they want him to play as much as possible.

I have already been hearing rumours about two new expansion teams being worked on in Las Vegas and Kansas City, so I believe contraction is one of the last things on the mind of the NHL. The players association would never go for it. either.
-
You also have to consider that the current CBA is only a six year deal, and the players have an opt out after four. Who knows what will happen by then.
-
Agreed. It is hard to repeat as a Stanley Cup champion. He loses one young player, but they have ohers. He picks up 3 high round draft picks, which they can either use or package in a deal. Fedorov had a horrible contract for the salary cap era, and the additions of Pronger and Beauchemin gave Anaheim a solid defense. Even if "overall talent" was decreased, the moves were effective. Talent doesn't guarantee anything.

What cheating goes on in the NHL, according to Sports Illustrated
CenterIce posted a topic in General
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writ....nhl/index.html Sports Illustrated wrote articles on the cheating that goes on in all sports. This is their NHL version. -
Hasek has a one year deal, and Osgood has one year left. Why not Kipper starting, and Howard learning from him as the backup.

The most interesting thing that I saw on that article was Hudler possibly being the second line center. I believe he will mostly be on the wing, especially with the center usually being the defensive responsible forward on the line.

I think the signing of Drake helps them out. They have a lot of combinations now that they can try. If Grigerinko makes the team, he, Cleary, Drake, and Filppula can fit anywhere from the 2nd to 4th lines. They have to separate Zetterberg and Datsyuk this year, except on the PP, because the other teams can shut down one line. They need to spread the wealth. A lot of people thought going into last year that the Wings were done, but they almost made the Stanley Cup Finals. Some of the young guys got a lot of playoff experience, which will be key. We have seen that they don't always have to win the regular season. They can test the young guys and give some prospects some time, to see what they can do.
-
The only thing I can see is giving him a chance at camp, so he can get a job with another team. McCarty hasn't been able to stay healthy, and we Drake kind of takes his role. We really need to give the kids on the NHL club and in our system a chance. The Wings and the NHL are in a youth movement, and we really need to see what they can do.
-
My guess is that maybe they have agreed with Hudler and Drake but nothing has gone through all the official channels, yet. Maybe the guys are on vacation and haven't signed everything, yet. The Wings website usually waits for everything to be official.

Holland said the Wings still have between $3 and 4 million left to spend, but he'd be happy going to training camp with the players they have already. "We want to see where our young guys like Igor Grigorenko, Matt Ellis and Kyle Quincey are at," Holland said. "If a veteran forward or defenseman pops up before training camp and it's for the right money we'll add him. If not, we're heading to Traverse City with what we have." http://www.theoaklandpress.com/stories/071...070710179.shtml

Everybody wants to be current with jerseys, so this would be expected with the change to the form fitting jerseys.
