Thank goodness. I think this is the best news I have heard today. I love Holmstrom but it's definitely time to hang them up soon. Hopefully a few more of the older guys follow suit.

I'm not saying they aren't Stanley Cup contenders. I just think they don't have a real chance at winning the President's Trophy. I think the Wings' goaltending will be a big factor in them not being at the top come playoff time. Unless Osgood plays playoff-style hockey during the regular season and the defense steps up I just don't see them being the top team in the league at the end of the season. And soonboomer the trophy is a regular season award so I don't really get your reasoning there. Who cares who they can beat in a series, this is a whole season award.

Seriously, how else would the Wings suddenly become better on defense? Last year was atrocious. But now they are supposed to be back to playing top-notch defense after losing key players? I don't get it...

Win. This is one of the worst threads ever started. Personally, I am going to cheer for Hossa because he has always been and always will be one of my favorite players no matter what team he is on. We all knew there was a very slim chance he would play for the Wings after last season and should have already accepted that by now. Hockey is a business. Playing hockey is his job. Get over it. Good luck to Hossa in the future.

Seriously, I'm kind of irritated by this. I see that he was probably the next best available when Gaborik left but come on. I guess it is a better contract and therefore less risk so that is good. Hopefully I'll get to see the Wild's star player actually play sometime. I can't remember the last game I went to a game that I got to see Gaborik play. Hopefully Marty can stay healthy!

Regular season: Ducks Playoffs: Penguins (because then we obviously got to the Finals and lost) Overall I'd have to say Penguins just because they are so over-hyped that it's not even funny anymore. And now it will be even worse. They are the greatest team in the history of the NHL. Nobody cares about the Ducks anymore.

Uh, this thread is about Marian Gaborik if you actually read the post... And I can almost guarantee that Gaborik will be on the Wild next season. If the Wings let Hossa go, hopefully the Wild can make him an offer. Then I can at least still cheer for him.
