Doh! Another post.
-
Well said.

No one would ever mistake Scott Niedermayer for that hermit dude from "Without a Paddle".
-
One LONGGGGGGGGG quarter to go, but that would be worth all 483 saves Luongo has made tonight.
-
The visual....not good. Son of a......
-
58 shots on goal and 1 goal against? Holy crap.
-
Is it saying something if no one can identify the backup goalie...including the GM in the press box?
-
Luongo needed to get home to see Grey's Anatomy.
-
A big effin sigh of relief for that. That raises the confidence level going into Saturday 10-fold.

Possibly the best Sportscenter call of all time! Edit: Wrong quote.

We can second guess this contract all day, but I am absolutely positive that someone would have given him this much (maybe not 7 years), in free agency, and we'd be left trying to bring someone else in and seeing how he produces, leaving a glaring hole in the lineup. Datsuyk is performing better than anyone expected. If he was productive in the playoffs, this wouldn't even be a question. So essentially, it's a bet that Stevie is right, and the playoff numbers are just an abberation. I like those odds. Perhaps look at it this way... With the current cap, this deal will look fairly large for the next year or two. In 3 years, when the cap is +5-10 mil from what it is now, and contracts are maxing out at 9-10 mil per season, this will look like one of our better contracts. Patience wins out in the end, and I for one am thrilled to see Dats locked up for years to come. The talk of him playing beside AO was nauseating to say the least.

Anyone else thinking the Brett harbors some bad thoughts about Detroit?
-
It's obvious from this clip that Probie was a PURE goal scorer, so those number aren't suprising!

Not only is the Marathon coverage scheduled until 11am PST, NBC has decided that they don't want to clip the NHL coverage completely, so they will graciously let us watch the last hour of the Red Wings game! Yipee! I mean...I would love to watch the game in it's entirety, but not at the expense of hours of grafitti watching! Next season...it's DTV, CenterIce, and no more bitching.

SI.com - Michael Farber - Beating the Red Wings

The NHL is the main catalyst in trying to drive a rivalry between Detroit and Nashville/Chicago/CBus/etc. They've made this possible by scheduling 643 matchups with each one during the season. Nashville hasn't had enough time in the league to build long-standing rivalries with other teams in the league, so naturally, their biggest competition (Detroit) would be it's main target. It would be foolish to think that the Detroit fans feel the same way about the so-called 'rivalry', simply because of the history they have with other teams. Personally, despite the fact that most of the players have moved on, Colorado/Detroit is still my fav, despite the fact that Colorado blows. I'd still much rather see Tor/Detroit and LA/Detroit than Detroit/Nashville. Doesn't mean I don't like the matchup, just that old habits die hard. Give the Nashville/Detroit thing a while longer, and it will keep building, to where Wings fans are just as passionate in the matchup, that is of course, if Nashville can keep the preds a little while longer. -
As much as I can't stomach the Oilers, I have to feel really sorry for their fans right now. Knowing what a huge loss it would be to the Wings to have to lose a captain, that's some B.S. out of management over there.

http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/hockey/i...n_islander.html Text: RYAN SMYTH AN ISLANDER Bulletin: The Islanders are putting the finishing touches on a deal for Edmonton captain Ryan Smyth. In exchange, the Oilers will receive former Islanders’ first-round draft picks Ryan O’Marra and Robert Nilsson plus the Islanders’ first-round pick this year. More details in a few minutes.

Holy crap...12 threads at once, we broke the site! Well done! Edit: Oops...make that 14 threads.

Hmm...only ~600 users on board right now? Very disappointing!

Productivity....down the drain. Oops...hey there boss!

There is absolutely no reason not to acquire this guy. The upside is limitless, and the downside is he doesn't play. Virtually zero risk, high reward...how can you not like that? (editors note: I realize I'm equating a prospect/draft pick as 'no downside', but it's more effective to emphasize it like that! )

This is the Flyers we are talking about. They are a combined -68,713.26 on the season. (.26 added for emphasis!) -
Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Well put. Not quite sure I understand what Chicago is thinking here, but eh. If a team is looking to be a seller, would think they'd like to hold onto draft picks and the like. Bye bye Willy! -
I'm absolutely astonished. Let's see...before the cap era -- Big market teams inflate the market by offering huge contracts. During the cap era -- Small market teams inflate the market by offering huge amounts of draft picks. This trend is completely predictable. These teams (re: Nashville, Atlanta, etc), have nothing to lose by sending away a truck load of picks to make a difference now. Just like the pre-cap era (re: Detroit, Philly, New York), where teams had nothing to lose by sending away a truck load of money to make a difference now. It's becoming painfully clear that teams that are managed well need to build their franchise through the draft and via free-agency. If your managed poorly (read: bad contracts), you are bailed out by receiving the tools needed to rebuild at the trade deadline. If I'm Ken Holland, I take these as signs of things to come, and learn from them in the off-season. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember the market doing this at last years trade deadline, but I may be speaking out of turn. Count me as one of the fans who would rather have a wings team that allowed me to get excited over another playoff run EVERY YEAR, than getting excited over them possibly going further THIS YEAR, at the expense of the future.
