3/10 GDT: Coyotes 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)

Mick: "Don't think the Wings don't miss Lilja on the backend." If people still don't see the value that Lilja brings to this team, nothing will convince them.

I understand the Wings' D stays healthy by avoiding checks, but nothing pisses me off more than what Rafalski just did to avoid that hit. Even though he avoided it, he allowed the other team to grab the puck. If that's his approach, let the forward in front of you and cut off his pass, otherwise your position on the play is worthless. Better yet, clear the puck around the boards and keep moving so you avoid the hit, but don't leave the f*ckin' puck behind you where you're in no position to help your goaltender.

Gorgeous pass from Mule and a better shot by Fil.

It sure would be nice to get off to a fast start and put the team at ease so they play their game.

NHL.com: "If The Playoffs Started Today"

If Mason stays this hot, I wouldn't want to play Columbus. He's seeing the puck so well right now, and all it would take is a goal or two going the other way and it could be all over. On top of that, Nash steps up his game 10-fold against Detroit and he's killed us the past few games.

    Wings "Boring" brand of Hockey?

^This! IMHO, far too many Wings fans want to have their cake and eat it too. The system they have in play yields results year-in and year-out, and until it becomes unsuccessful I couldn't care less about other teams' fans boredom.

potential solution for franzen hossa problem

There's a reason there's rumblings of a buyout....its because Penner hasn't been worth a dime of the offer sheet he signed. This is one case where Burke was right about Lowe.

    Holland's Tie-Breaking Rule

I'm confused by your question. First, there aren't any ties so I'm not sure what you mean by that. Moreover, this doesn't have to do with tying anyway....Kenny is referring to regulation wins rather than *total* wins (regulation, OT and SO) being the first tie-breaker if two (or more) teams end up with the same amount of points. Either you're misunderstanding what Kenny is referring to, or I'm completely misunderstanding you.

    Holland's Tie-Breaking Rule

That's sports though. There have been plenty of occasions where a fluke play changes the outcome of a game and therefore changes the outcome of the standings. How is that not fair though? It's unlucky, but not unfair. I love Kenny's idea.....I'm all for it.

    Weekend Picks

Sadly....this isn't the first time someone has cheated. A couple years ago someone did the same thing. I can't remember which member it was, but they were disqualified as well and then the individual publicly apologized. Still, its pretty pathetic for anyone to stoop so low on a game that is for nothing more than internet bragging rights. f*** Me!

    Weekend Picks

I have no desire to see my results this week. After steadily climbing the past few weeks, this weekend was only topped by the horrendous day that was yesterday.

Babcock Begins To Reveal Playoff Lines

A fourth line of Hudler-Helm-Sammy brings tears to my eyes. That's beyond money, and I'll take that line against any other 4th line in the game.

    Thoughts on Downey

While Downey brings a level toughness, as mentioned before he's a marginal fighter. He's a pretty terrible player as well and gets caught out of position due to being overly-aggressive at times (I.E. the first Avs goal Wednesday night). That being said, he's an in-your-face type of player which can be refreshing, especially since Drake retired but the problem is he's nowhere near the all-around hockey player Drake was. Personally, I'd rather see a guy like Drake rather than both Downey and McCarty combined. Drake-type of players are *fairly* reasonable in price and bring so much more to the table than a one-dimensional player like Downey. I love Downey's attitude regarding his role on this team....its second-to-none, but he's just not talented enough to be on this roster come playoff time.

    Red Wings still favourites

The Wings were absolutely the favorite heading into the playoffs last season. They had the President's trophy under their belt and home ice advantage to go with it. The Vegas odds-makers had the Wings as the favorite to win it all...not SJ. Just because a couple sportscasters said the Sharks were the favorites, doesn't mean they actually were.

Hossa is on pace for a career high in goals

Nope.....and you are correct that it was 93/94 campaign. Sidenote: Stevie Y did it 5 times in 6 years (87/88-92/93).

    2009 NHL Trade Deadline Thread

Similar to last years thread, I'll be updating this thread as fast as humanly possible. Feel free to post any transactions (regardless of team) within this thread and I'll add it to the chart as quickly as I can. I'm not expecting much on Kenny's end this year other than some depth up front and/or a possible spark to motivate and energize the club. ____________________________ LAST UPDATED (3-4-2009, 5:43 PM CT) March 4th, 2009 To TOR: (G) O. Red Wings still favourites

I'm not as concerned about that anymore. They were the favorites the last 2 years they've won the Cup and there's just too much veteran leadership mixed with total Stanley Cups won amongst the current cast of Wings for that to worry me anymore. TBH, I'm sure the Red Wings' players buy into that even less than the fans do.

    3/4 GDT: Red Wings 3, Avalanche 2

IMO, we must be watching different games, because aside from him hitting and being a piss ant, he also over-committed on the Avs goal and then got caught holding the puck too long in the d-zone. Then, instead of getting his head into the game he got into a verbal scuffle. I'm all for Downey playing aggressive, but I'd like him to be a little more intelligent at the same time.
