    Pronger?

It would be as painful as when the Wings picked up Chelios. You hate the thought of it but you know he'd be great on your team, just like the addition of Cheli was.

    Hossa not practicing today

Where do you come up with this stuff? Also, as Vladifan pionted out, there's a reason to let a player of Hossa's skill rest to ensure he's 100% healthy. It's called "need versus necessity".

    Hossa not practicing today

Hopefully just a precaution given Babs' comments stating that he's fine. After hearing Babs, I expected him to be in the lineup tomorrow night.

Nearly Ten Minutes of the Wings Playing Two Touch

As did I. That's awesome that Drapes was sporting that. All the two-touch they play is gotta be a massive reason guys like Dats are able to make the skate passes as effortlessly as they do (like the one last night).

2/25 GDT: Sharks 1 at Red Wings 4

I'd love for Conklin to stay, but I fear he's going to price himself out of the Wings' range. By the same token, Kenny and Co. might not feel its as necessary to keep Conklin for his inevitable higher price tag given the amount of talent waiting in the Wings (no pun intended). Next years' cap number is not going to be Detroit's friend, especially with what now looks like Hossa and Franzen both finding a way to stay.

2/25 GDT: Sharks 1 at Red Wings 4

Words cannot describe the amount of awesome that game was last night. Leino has 100% won me over. It doesn't matter what line he's on, he finds a way to the back of the net. His goal was one of the many reasons I consider hockey players the most talented atheletes in the world. Z's turnaround shortie was nothing short of breathtaking, and the intelligence he used in scoring his second was incredible. Conkblock looked steady and beyond comfortable from the moment the puck dropped. Just a great game to watch all-around. I just can't get on board with this type of thinking. The Sharks are extremely healthy and nothing suggest they'll start slumping right now. They may not be as hot as they were the first half of the season, but to me nothing stands to reason that they'll start dropping games, while the Wings scorch ahead. TBH, I'm not so sure its even that important. While some people don't like the idea of playing the first two games of a playoff series on the road, is something that can be overcome by winning one of the first two. The Wings never faced too much pressure last year because they were able to go up 2-0 in every playoff series they played, but if the Wings can get one of the first two in the Tank then they'll be in good shape. Even if they split at home, the pressure goes squarely to SJ to defend home-ice in Game 5.

That third period was insane. I couldn't believe not only how bad the Hawks got on their heals, but the constant barrage of them to the penalty box.

Ty Conklin - 18th best goalie in the NHL?

I don't think its gonna be that easy. Conklin has continued to build on his steller showing last season and he's going to command a raise. I'm sure Holland would love to hang on to him, but whether or not he can given the Wings' cap situation is another story.

Howard Recalled; Osgood told to "re-focus"

Is this sarcasm? I really wish Maltby would continue to sit for the time being. I just don't find him to be effective anymore and Leino has been stellar. That being said, a rotation makes sense to keep everyone fresh.

Howard Recalled; Osgood told to "re-focus"

This is the type of move that will either propel Oz going forward into the postseason or solidify Conklin as the starter come April. Big Move.

    I want to keep Hudler!

It's not just about moving the players, its about bolstering your team for the current run. Bouw would do that and the players in return solve the issue of re-signing Hudler. I'm not saying it should happen, just that's its a realistic idea as opposed to a bunch of others that have been posted before. Also, comparing Fedorov to Bouw is apples to oranges.

    I want to keep Hudler!

Filppula likely opted for arbitration last year to keep other teams from throwing offer sheets at him. This was likely Kenny's doing/idea.

    I want to keep Hudler!

While I'm not convinced the Wings brass would do something like this, perhaps they are keeping Hudler's ice time limited in hopes that he achieves lighter numbers, thus attempting to keep his new salary within what the Wings will be able to afford next year. They sure like to "let" players develop in the minors as long as they can before they bring them up. That's good for a major reason other than hockey maturity.....it makes them cheaper than what they would be if they were brought up a few years earlier. Basically, it helps Kenny keep their wages in check early on in their career.

    I want to keep Hudler!

I think that was the OP's point. Obviously he wants Filppula moved in order to create cap space for Hudler to re-sign next year. Lebda isn't much of an asset to the Wings other than the fact that he has some playoff/finals experience under his belt and depending on what pick/prospect you're referring to this deal isn't that "crazy". It's actually quite interesting because you bolster the blueline for the remainder of the season, which has been somewhat suspect for the first time in years, you get Filppula's contract off the books which many people around here want to see (not saying I'm necessarily one of them either way), and Lebda is used as more bait in the trade. Interesting idea. To the OP: What did you have in mind for the prospect/pick that would go with Flip and Lebda. Sidenote: I don't think Florida will move Bouw, nor do I think the Wings will move Filppula.

Panthers announcer Randy Moller is amusing.

QFT It would be great if Mick or Ken did that once in a while when the Wings scored. Very entertaining and yet another thing to look forward to.

Eklund trade rumor almost makes sense

Shaman and edi...I gotta disagree. While this deal would certainly make hockey sense, IMO it makes *more* hockey sense to keep him for the remainder of the year. Obviously, moving Sammy for some picks/prospects would benefit the Wings going forward, but this team is ready to challenge for the Cup again this year. Sammy was a big part of their success last postseason and has been stellar given his payscale this year. To me, it makes more sense to use him for the Cup run and lose him for nothing in the offseason than it would to try and go it without him come Spring.

Lidstrom's race to reach 1000p this season

19 points for any defenseman in 24 games is rockstar numbers. I'm not saying he doesn't have a shot at it, but it's gonna be tough. It'll come down to the wire if it happens this season. One thing that goes in his favor is the Wings' attempts at catching the Sharks before the season is over. If they can be within a few points down the stretch when the games in hand start to even out, it'll push the Wings even harder since home-ice will be on the line. Nothing like cutting it close.

2/18 GDT: Predators 2 at Red Wings 6

Actually, there was a picture circulating around LGW a while ago that showed Drapes and Cheli at what looked like a crappy college house party. Here's one an LGW member posted a while back when he saw Z and Willy at the bars:

    Players and Media

A few months ago Homer was being interviewed after the first period and he told the FSND interviewer that the penalty he was currently serving was a "garbage call...and lets leave it at that". He was pissed and the interviewer knew not to ask anything regarding the call the rest of the interview. Then he was asked about when he gets a goalie to take a penalty due to him crowding the crease. He asked him, when the goalie retaliates if that meant he got "in their head"? Homer replied, "I'm in your head". One of the best interviews of the season.

    This Idea

He made some mistakes coming out of the lockout year and one big one against the Ducks in the '07 WCF's. Since then, he's been rock-solid and making practically nothing. The Red Wings need to hang on to any bargains they have on their roster given their tight cap-space. Lilja absolutely is one of them.

    Hossa and Franzen to Stay?//Merged

Actually, being a mod means its part of my job to help keep this place running smooth and without redundant threads. If you have a problem with me doing my job by keeping this site from being one entire frontpage of Hossa/Franzen threads, then I suggest you keep it to yourself. Clearly you have a problem with me given your profile, so lets take it to the PM's and figure it out like adults.
