Winter Classic Livewire Feed: *Now Playing*
NeverForgetMac25 replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
Quenneville's on right now and says they have some "cool" coats that they'll be wearing tomorrow during the game. Larry Murphy now talking about the Buzz of the WC in Detroit. The Blackhawks are about to take the ice for practice. I really hope they show both them and the Wings during that time. -
I believe his groin is hampering him slightly, but as others have said...it isn't realistic to expect him to score consistently game-in and game-out. He started the season slow and now he's hit a slight rough patch throughout the line juggling. He'll be fine....there's too much talent there for it to last too long. Classic!
-
It's makes me feel alot better about when Lidstrom does decide to hang 'em up that this team realizes all they need to do is play as a cohesive *5-man unit* and everything will be fine.
-
It's just too early to tell. While right now its not looking so great, based on the length of his contract he's got plenty of time to prove it was worth it and then some. Sidenote: His pass to Kopecky last night was sick!
-
Me neither...however its not as if Cheli signed with any other team once his contract was up either....know what I mean?
-
Then I'll leave it with I hope to see Chelios and Lilja on the ice in Wrigley because that stands a better chance than Lebda and Chelios...and for good reason. Go Wings! Cheers
-
In Cheli's defense, he was traded to Detroit...so its not as if he signed here as an UFA after making the comments he did. After he got a taste of what it was like in Detroit he realized how great of an organization they had and how wonderful it was to be a part of. Now that being said, I can understand Blackhawks fans' resentment towards Cheli. If a high-end, Wings fan favorite was traded to Colorado back in the late 90's and then he re-signed the following season with them, I'd be uber-bitter as well.

How is that flying over my head when I responded directly to what you were saying? Just because a player is from the state that a game is being played in doesn't mean they should get the nod if they are currently playing far inferior to another player. That's the case here with Lebda and Lilja. Sidenote: Comebacks are for juveniles. We're having a debate and that was my reply. Also, you didn't answer my question about it being a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Lilja either.
-
But its not a once in a lifetime opportunity for Lilja? Who cares if he isn't from Illinois?
-
Where do you come up with this stuff? You really need to re-read my posts, because my point seems to be flying right over your head. a) I *do* want Chelios playing at Wrigley Field in place of Lebda. I've said that multiple times. b) I didn't not want Stevie on the ice for the final minute of his career but I understood Babs decision not to play him, which is more than some people here seem to be able to grasp. c) Lilja is way better than Lebda....the massive majority will tell you that. d) I have faith that this Wings team can not only win the division but also the Stanley Cup, but I'm not about to blindly accept it like its rightfully theirs. You don't win Cups by coasting along.
-
Not great given that Stevie looked off the entire season. While he had a good series, you can't take away from the fact that he wasn't the impact player during the 05/06 season that he was pre-lockout. He showed flashes of magic, but not consistently enough to warrant a spot in the final minute. Call it what you want, but Babs not playing him during the final seconds didn't show disrespect to him at all. It's just fans blowing something quite minor out of proportion.
-
Lilja was an even (+/-) player on a defense that was mightily struggling out of the gate all the while playing alongside a partner that was -9 to start the season. That speaks volumes about Lilja's play the first 15 games. I feel your comment about his play the first 15 games is one out of dislike for Lilja, not one based on facts....because they certainly say otherwise. Just like that, huh?
-
How close have you been watching this season? Lilja's been great the entire year....especially on the PK. Hopefully Babcock realizes his job is to win games....not worry about some fans' nostalgia. I agree that Cheli should play, but for Lebda...not Lilja.
-
It makes perfect sense....you just fail to see the logic. No one loves Yzerman or respects him more than I do, but he wasn't on the ice because the players that were gave the team the best chance of scoring at that point. Yzerman from 2002 would've been on the ice, Yzerman from 2006 shouldn't have been.
-
So playing either of those two in favor of a superior Lilja (at this point of the season) makes Babs a class-act? Most people would say that makes him an idiot.
-
Did it ever occur to you perhaps Babs was sitting Yzerman so he didn't have to be on the ice on the losing end when the final horn blew?
-
Lebda hasn't earned the right to be an "automatic" for this game. First and foremost, this is a regular season game worth 2 points just like the rest. While it's a nice thought to put Cheli and Lebda in due to it being their hometown, this isn't PeeWee anymore and the "W" is more important than hurting someone's pride. Cheli and Lebda could easily be interchanged due to Lebda's inconsistent play so far this season, but no way should Lilja be benched for sentimental reasons. He's played great this year and deserves to not be kicked to the side simply because it isn't his hometown. *He's* earned the right to play in that game. Sit Lebda....tough break kid.
-
No doubt, and I would never argue that. In fact, if you've noticed any of my posts in previous Avery threads I make mention that Avery would be a great player if he would shut his damn mouth. My comment was in regards to the disgraceful things he does off the ice, not on.....although the Brodeur incident last year was downright pathetic, but in a different way than Tootoo's cheapshots. This play doesn't show how dirty he is, but it shows how cowardly he is. He gets under people's skin (and bravo for that, Maltby used to be great at that) but time and time again he's resorted to dirty play. My comment was one in regards to his career, not this play alone.....otherwise I wouldn't have even made the statement.
-
He and Avery are the biggest disgraces to the NHL. There's a big difference between being an agitator and a cheap, cowardly prick.....Tootoo's the latter.

As if we need another reason to want to crush San Jose

QFT There are plenty of people that abuse not only illegal but legal drugs all the while putting themselves in worse case scenarios than Cherepanov was in and they live a long life. This was a mistake by Cherepanov but no one deserves to die from a mistake like this.
-
While Holland may be tired of running up against the cap all season, I agree that moving Sammy isn't on his radar either. It just doesn't make any sense given his salary and his production this season. Kenny's made it work so far this season and there's no reason to think he'll move someone of that value before he literally has no other choice.
-
QFT Just a FYI: the attached article in this thread says she was 86.
-
Synthetic hormones or Steriods are banned substances by the NHL (which was his ultimate goal). I'm fairly confident Cherepanov didn't wake up one morning and think to himself, "Boy, I could really use increased red blood cells to be able to carry more oxygen to my muscles". The fact of the matter is that this lilkely added to what happened the night he died.
-
While the proper medical attention very well could've saved him, this should also be a lesson on steriod use. There's a chance this heart attack may not have even happened if Cherepanov hadn't been using roids. Such a shame.
